Post updates by email:

As most of my longtime readers already know, I adore nighttime.

And just like a vampire….I come alive.

Not only do I come alive at night, but I simultaneously feel more relaxed and calm.

Without sounding too ‘New Age’ - my body and spirit seem to be more in tune to the energetic vibration of night.

I’m always inspired to do things like: write, edit my photographs, research topics on the internet, watch documentaries, and read.

Somehow I feel more receptive and creative after the sun goes down, as it becomes dark and quiet.

I worship the darkness of night.

There’s something so delightfully romantic and sexy about seeing city lights against a dark sky.

And now that it’s Fall, and our days are shorter, I love how darkness falls early.

I think I’m probably one of the few people who prefers shorter days and longer nights.

But hey…..that’s because I’m a vampire!

Wednesday evening after I got out from work, I decided to take a leisurely stroll through the city before going home.

Luckily, I had my camera with me so I took a few photos during that special ‘twilight time’ - between light and dark - as the city comes alive with a magic *twinkle*.

Please enjoy…..

  1. I TOTALLY agree with you!!! I have always been a night owl...and I mean always!!! I existed on very little sleep while in the Corporate World!! I am at my most awake and creative after 11pm. It works well for my husband and I. He is a MORNING person and I am a NIGHT owl! But, hey...it works for us. He fought it for awhile, then finally decided that's just the way it is. I love the sights, sounds, smells...nights are the BEST!!! I never sleep til 4am or so.

From one night owl to another...have a great weekend!!

Yaaaaaaaaay! Another person who loves NIGHTTIME!

" I existed on very little sleep while in the Corporate World!! I am at my most awake and creative after 11pm."

OMG!!! I'm the SAME WAY!!!! I need very little sleep and usually don't go to bed before 2 a.m.

Yes, nights are the best, I agree!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my fellow night owl! Have a great weekend!

  3. Hi Ronnie,

I am getting a real kick out of your photos. How exquisite Philly is at night!!
Ah, you know that go for your city day or night but night always has a special magic.
Well, I see that you left the window open, too and the night air brought in some kind of creature; haaaa!! Ron rocks as the new Dracula!

I am a day person. Though I can really enjoy activities at night or a trip downtown. But, I don't drag them on until really early int the morning. I say there is no right or wrong; everyone is just DIFFERENT.

Have a nice weekend and enjoy.

  4. 'office buildings along Market Street' ... how fabulous those pictures are. I love the reflection in the 'mirror' windows. Do you use the night time facility on the camera?

Okay, I used to be a night owl so I fully understand about coming alive at night, my best creations were dreamed up during the dark hours, unfortunately no longer. I get too tired now and can't stay awake but invariably I wake in the middle of the night with story themes racing through my brain, so a little of it must still be there. The mind is more receptive at night, I think it's due to the atmosphere of the heavens, the quietness, the lack of 'clutter' and the distance. Have you ever noticed how far away things seem at night?

Hope your weekend will be a good one.

  5. Oh my damn! Those pictures are wonderful! The city is so beautiful at twilight. And the view from your apartment is to die for!

Yes, I'm a vampire too. On weekends I'm doing good to get in bed before 4 AM. During the week, I still push it by going to bed around midnight. That doesn't sound late, but I have to get up at 5.

Loved the vampire picture! Sooo sexy :P

Have a wonderful weekend, Ron. Thanks for sharing those pics!

  7. LOVE THE PICS! I especially like the ones on Market Street where you can see the one building reflected on the other one, Great capture! I like the city at night but I'm usually a chicken to go by myself! Have a vampirical weekend!

  8. Hi Barbara~

Thanks, my friend. Doesn't Philly look FAB at night? I've not taken too many night photos with my camera, but I'm starting to learn out to use the 'nighttime settings.' It's a little tricky though, because you have to hold the camera VERY still when taking photos in darker settings. I really want to upgrade to a better camera after the holidays and purchase a one with more control.

"Well, I see that you left the window open, too and the night air brought in some kind of creature; haaaa!! Ron rocks as the new Dracula!"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, just call me Count Ronnie!

And you're exactly right, my friend.....everyone is different. Some of us are night people and others are day people. That's what makes the world go round. I DO enjoy day, however it takes me until 3:00 in the afternoon to finally wake up - HA!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Barb. Have a terrific weekend!

P.S. we just got our first real COLD spell today. It's freezing and I'm LOVIN' it!

Nobody can understand why I stay up past the witching hour daily. I do my best creative work at night too. I always have.

    Absolutely love the photos!

I won't get your reply to this comment as my email is dead, along with my blog, sadly.

  10. Good morning Valerie~

Thank you. I really didn't even notice the reflection on the building until I uploaded the photos to my computer. Yes, I do use the nighttime facility on my camera, but as I shared with Barbara....it's very tricky because you have to hold the camera VERY still because of the slow shutter speed or they come out blurry. I really want to upgrade to a camera with more control, so after Christmas I might be investing in something with bit more power.

" but invariably I wake in the middle of the night with story themes racing through my brain, so a little of it must still be there. "

Meeeee too! Often, right before I fall into a deep sleep an idea for a blog post will suddenly POP into my head which, makes me get up and quickly jot down a few words, so that I don't forget it by morning - HA!

" The mind is more receptive at night, I think it's due to the atmosphere of the heavens, the quietness, the lack of 'clutter' and the distance."

LOVE how you said that, and I think you're absolutely correct.

" Have you ever noticed how far away things seem at night?"

Yes, I DO...and I wonder why that is? The darkness perhaps?

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Hope your weekend is a good one too!

  11. Good morning MYFWBS~

Thank you. I ADORE how a city looks at night. When I lived in NYC, I use to LOVE going to the top of the Empire State Building and viewing Manhattan - it's STUNNING!

    "Yes, I'm a vampire too."

    Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay....another fellow-vampire! Don't you just love night?

"On weekends I'm doing good to get in bed before 4 AM. During the week, I still push it by going to bed around midnight. That doesn't sound late, but I have to get up at 5."

WOW...you're even later than me! Because I normally don't have to be into work until 1 or 2 in the afternoon, I usually don't go to bed before 2 a.m. Midnight is probably the earliest I go to bed when I have to be into work at like 11 a.m. But even when I do, I still don't ever feel REALLY awake until 3 in the afternoon - HA!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, girl. Have a wonderful weekend!

Oh, you would be if you were wallking around with me. Because remember, I'm a vampire. And nobody messes with a VAMPIRE!!! HA!

  23. Hi Ronnie! I LOVE Vampires too! I think I might be part Vampire, although I drink coffee (don't get me started on Starbucks!) instead of blood! Night-time is so peaceful, no barking dogs to interrupt my creative process or my noisy kids! lol! If I could be up all night and sleep all day, I would, but it's just not conducive with children. I have 4 more years and then I can do what *I* want!!

  32. Hello Diane~

"so what are you doing for trick or treat? more of the aforementioned vampire related activities? anything with a costume perhaps?"

No, I wish. I so miss going to parties for Halloween and getting dressed up. We were thinking about doing something at work for tomorrow, but not everyone wanted to do it, so we cancelled it - bummer :(

Thank you. I too am not very practiced in twilight photography, but I've been playing around with some of the settings on my camera and trying them out. It's so much FUN!!! Eventually, I want to upgrade to a more advanced camera with additional settings and lenses. I'm thinking after Christmas, I'll buy a new camera.

Your twilight time photos are really lovely. Magical, actually. I can really picture myself over there just strolling along and looking at all those wonderful buildings and how they are illuminated in the evening.

Good that you got out to get them the other night because now we're to get rain, I read up to an inch or two of slush in some areas. Bleh. I do like the cool crisp Fall temps but the slushy snow not so much. And before Halloween, that's almost sacrilege! haha

Have a wonderful weekend, dear neighbor.

I love to wake up before everyone else and enjoy time just with "me". Read, write, blog, drink coffee and think. Really meaningful times for my well-being.

The twilight city is what I adore, too. The space between dark and light. When the day is still a dulcet memory, and the night a hopeful promise. Now that I am on the Mediterranean Coast, I try to go see the sunsets as often as I can. I am always marveled. I wish I could have you here to it see with me. We'd sit on a bench and admire!

Yes, I know several other people who feel the same. In fact, I think MANY people experience S.A.D. during the winter months because of the shorter days and longer nights.

But, isn't twilight great? It's that 'in between' place, that's not really dark, but not fully light.

  47. Awesome pics, Ron!

Yeah, the wife says I suffer from the same problem. Even on a "school night" I can often be found playing on the PS3, writing, or working on electronics. Seems when I should turn in at 10pm I'm still up and active at midnight. I guess when the family goes to bed I finally get a chance to relax and wind down. Of course "winding down" for me take several hours! Heh...

Yes, me too! It takes me several HOURS to wind down from my day, so that's why I enjoy the peace and quiet that nighttime brings :)

And as I've shared, I also get so creative at night.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, buddy. Hope you had a super weekend!

X to you, Karin, and Mr. Tyler!

"My girls managed an hour of the dark, before my littlest one was dragging her heels & looking for home (and candy)."

OMG...I'm SO HAPPY to hear that your girls went out trick or treating, because kids are hardly doing that anymore. I LOVED going out trick or treating on Halloween night!!!!

    But of course....I'm a VAMPIRE - HA!

Thank you. So glad you enjoyed the photos. I'm learning more and more as I have this camera. I'm so glad I got it last year. I want to upgrade to something a little more advanced after Christmas, to learn more.

OMG...my brother is a Cancer too! June 27th.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a great week!
