Please don’t feel sad when I tell you how I spent my Christmas day, because if you’ve ever worked in retail during the holiday season surrounded by mobs of people, and experienced the sensory overload of bright lights, constant Christmas music, screaming children, and non-stop talking to customers, you might just understand my need to spend Christmas day totally ALONE and QUIET.

Actually, I had a lovely Christmas day because it was so nice to not have to be anywhere at a specific time. And even though friends offered that I spend the day with them, the last thing I wanted to do was be around MORE people. So, I declined.

I slept in, had a leisurely breakfast while watching the movie “White Christmas”, opened a few Christmas gifts, and then spoke to my mother and brother in Florida on the phone.

Oh yeah, and I also did two loads of laundry because I literally had NO clean clothes to wear. And thank god no other tenants were in the laundry room that day because I had to do my laundry NAKED, except for the big red ribbon and a piece of holly I tied around my manhood.

It gave a whole new meaning to the song, “Jingle Bells.”

Later that night, I had a nice quiet dinner and then spoke to my dear friend, Diana, in Florida on the phone.

It was so glorious to finally have a day to myself, when I could just chill out, relax, and just BE.

To me, Christmas is a state of heart, therefore I can experience the spirit of Christmas whether alone or spending it with others.

Since my immediate family lives in another State, we don't have the chance to get together with one another, therefore we celebrate Christmas in our own way. But yet, together in spirit.

This year, I received some really thoughtful gifts from family, friends, and people I work with.

Here are a few….

My brother, Tom, sent me this book on Lucille Ball because he knows how much I ADORED her.

The book is a documentation of Lucille Ball’s long-spanning career which includes: stories, photos, and replicated memorabilia. It’s such a freakin’ COOL book. Thanks, bro!

Here are some bottles of wine I received from people that I work with because they know how much I love the taste of red wine. My favorites are Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. But I also enjoy a hearty Shiraz. Two of these bottles were given to me by my buddy, Frankie. Thanks, Frankie!

My friend, Diana, sent me a FABULOUS body care kit from Kiehl’s because she knows what a beauty product junkie I am. Thanks, Diana!

Here are a two Starbucks gift cards I received from people I work with. I also received one (which I already used) a few weeks ago from my blogging friend over at My Friends With Benefits. Thanks, girl! You have no idea how much that gift card helped to keep me AWAKE during these past two weeks at work.

The only thing I’m not happy about when it comes to this Christmas was that I asked Santa (once again) for a Barbie doll. And considering how NICE I’ve been this year and not NAUGHTY, you would think he would have given me my one GREAT Christmas gift wish.

Therefore, I’ve decided to give Santa a subtle hint for next year….

I feel pretty….oh, so pretty….I feel pretty, and witty, and GAY.

  1. Hi Ronnie,

It's great to be seeing ya on regular blogging time! Wow; you had some wonderful gifts! Santa had been generous with ya!
No Sir, I won't go writing you an e mail on the subject of your solitude on the birthday of the baby Jesus. I KNOW how much you earned that peace and quiet, buddy.

Humm; extra loads of dirty unmentionables and other stuff? I could almost guess that one! It happens every Xmas season :)

Too funny that babe at the end of your post! She's a beaute!!

Have a great day buddy, and I will be in touch xo

  2. I almost envy you the peace and quiet, Ron. Although there's only two of us I always feel I HAVE to be jolly when all I really want is to savour things in quietude. Yes I know, I'm selfish. Heehee glad you got your laundry done without interruption... love the sound of your 'outfit' while you did the washing. Jingle Bells indeed....hahaha. Well, I'm off to sort out a few piccies for the blog. Have a great Boxing Day.

  4. Goooood Morning Barb~

Thank you. It feels so GREAT to be posting again on my regular blogging schedule - I've missed it. Since I had off yesterday, I had the time to actually take some pictures and write a post in the afternoon.

I received my brothers' gift on Christmas eve when I got home from work. It was so thoughtful of him. And I now have enough red wine to last me through January - HA!

"No Sir, I won't go writing you an e mail on the subject of your solitude on the birthday of the baby Jesus. I KNOW how much you earned that peace and quiet, buddy."

It was sooooo wonderful to just spend the day being quiet and chillin'. Other than doing my laundry, I never even left my apartment the whole day.

"Too funny that babe at the end of your post! She's a beaute!!"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Yup, isn't she a BEAUTE?

    Strike a pose!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Hope you and hubby had a VERY Merry Christmas!

    Have a FAB Monday!

  5. Hey there Valerie~

OMG....it felt absolutely wonderful to spend the day in peace and quiet. And since so many of the tenants in my building were gone for the holiday, I felt like I had the whole building to myself. I was so QUIET.

"Although there's only two of us I always feel I HAVE to be jolly when all I really want is to savour things in quietude. Yes I know, I'm selfish."

No, you're not selfish, because I totally understand - I'm the same way.

"Heehee glad you got your laundry done without interruption... love the sound of your 'outfit' while you did the washing. Jingle Bells indeed....hahaha."

    Tee, hee. Aren't I a silly man?

But honestly, I literally had NO clean clothes left because I haven't the time to do laundry in over a week. I ended up hand washing a few of my dress shirts, socks, and underwear in the bathroom sink because I had none left.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, dear lady. Have a great Monday and week!

And a Happy Christmas to you too! Hope you enjoyed a beautiful day with your family.

It was so nice to spend my Christmas day in peace and quiet. I also shared some Reiki with myself because I REALLY needed it.

Thank you so much for stopping by today, m'dear. And thank you for your sweet words.

    L.O.V.E. you too!

Have a MARVI Monday and week!

Looks like you had a lot of gifts to unwrap on your solitary day. I'm so glad you did exactly what pleased you for the most special day of the year. Good for you!

Jingle bells. *Shakes head* What have you been drinking?

    Aw...thank you, my friend. It's a Valentino - HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!

Yes, I had a wonderful Christmas day. Peaceful and quiet. And I soooooo needed it after my loooong working schedule. I have one more week left to work, and then I'm off for a WHOLE month - yipeeeeeeeeeee!

"Jingle bells. *Shakes head* What have you been drinking?"

Bwhahahahahahahahhahaha! Amazingly enough though, I wasn't drinking anything at the time!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, Jay! Hope you had a very Merry Christmas!

Looking forward to catching up with you this week!

  9. Well, that Barbie situation isn't being addressed by Mr. Claus so I believe I must take it to the next level. I'm totally shocked that Santa would be so non-politically correct in this day and age but I guess the guy is old and can't keep up.

Other than that, I'm glad you had a good Christmas - sometimes being with yourself is the absolute BEST company.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hey, Ron, that sounds like a GREAT Christmas. Relaxing, avoiding people, and tying ribbons to your privates--that's the true Christmas spirit! I hope Santa gets the hint for next year and maybe you can graduate from ribbons to a nice big bow! Merry Christmas, buddy!!!!

  11. Oh, thank god you're back.....I MISSED YOU!

Your Xmas sounds quite relaxing......I'm looking forward to having the house to myself once again. Won't be till mid-January, but tis the life of a mother! The gifts received look fabulous! I'm glad people know what you like!
Well, except that rotten Santa. When is he going to listen??

I have to go to the inlaws today, so wish me luck. Xmas is not over yet.....

  12. I bet that did give a whole new meaning to jingle bells... maybe we should make up a new song called "dangle balls" for when you just feel like letting it all HANG OUT!

I think it's wonderful you got to spend some quiet down time. Hubby and I just went to the movies and out to eat and other than that we pretty much spent the day in bed watching TV! Now is that lazy or WHAT?

I love Rex-Goliath and yellow tail but I don't think I've ever tried Bare Foot. I love red wine too. I recently tried Cupcake brand Red Blend and really liked it. I like the red blends because you kind of get a little of it all! Some of my faves are Blackstone Red Blend (I also like their Cab and Merlot) and my two newest finds that I really like are one called Primal Roots (red blend) and Toasted Head Untamed Red. Worst part about this cat bite thing is I haven't been able to have my nightly glass of wine!

  15. Welcome back to the blogging world, Ron! I've so missed you!

It sounds to me as if you had a marvelous Christmas day. The peace and quite of "me" time is priceless. I have often gone and rented a hotel room alone just to get away from EVERYONE. I totally understand.

I actually got a mental image of you doing your laundry. HILARIOUS!

It looks like Santa did you well this year. Except for your Barbie, of course. Maybe he didn't bring a Barbie because he couldn't bring one as GORGEOUS as the one that you posted?

    Have a wonderful week, Ron.

You said it! I really enjoy having a job where I'm around people and socializing, however during this time of the year it's gets a bit much. So I relished my "me" time yesterday.

" I have often gone and rented a hotel room alone just to get away from EVERYONE. I totally understand."

" Hubby and I just went to the movies and out to eat and other than that we pretty much spent the day in bed watching TV! Now is that lazy or WHAT?"

No, that's not lazy at all. Actually, it sounded like an AWESOME way to spend the day. PERFECT!

"I love Rex-Goliath and yellow tail but I don't think I've ever tried Bare Foot. I love red wine too."

Yes, I can ONLY drink red wine because white makes me sick. I don't know why, but white wine just doesn't agree with me.

Isn't Rex-Goliath the best? And it's soooo inexpensive too. A woman at work turned me on to that brand last year, when she got me a bottle for Christmas. It's truly one of my favorite wine companies. Barefoot is excellent too. And also very inexpensive.

I've never tried Cupcake brand Red Blend or Blackstone Red Blend, but I will look for them the next time I'm in the wine store. Thanks for letting me know about those two brands because I love trying new wines!

"I also like their Cab and Merlot"

Me too! I actually prefer blended wines the best. Especially a Cab/Merlot because it cuts down on the dryness of the Merlot.

"Worst part about this cat bite thing is I haven't been able to have my nightly glass of wine!"

Aw....shucks! Well, after you're all healed, you MUST make up for it by drinking a WHOLE bottle of wine - HA!

Heh!! I could imagine a fellow tenant walk around the corner only to encounter you decked out with naught but a bow, come to a sudden silent stop, and quietly back away and quickly at their feet will take them.

Great to hear that you were able to unwind during Christmas. It sometimes seems like it takes quite a bit of work to "enjoy" the holidays. Sleeping in, watching movies, and unwrapping gifts is a nice way to celebrate, and not get caught up in all the frenzy!

  28. Do you know how much a 20 pound turkey between two people is? (LOL.....now, that's not a trick question--we'll be having leftovers for a chunk of time, huh?!)

All plans to be surrounded by family went by the wayside when the Bug decided to get sickly--which meant a decision about subjecting me to it got to be made......which meant--10 pounds of turkey each!
It's all good--it was a wonderfully quiet and relaxing foodfest. LOL You would not believe the food--OMG......

But it was quiet and peaceful and I got to watch Scrooge uninterrupted--'cept for the bazillion breaks I require, of course. ;-)

NICE prezzies. Do folks know you or WHAT?!

I'm enjoyin' the Lucy book idea and will now go on a quest when I land at Barnes and Bankruptsy next. It looks like a fun one!

I'm glad to see you back, sir. Glad to hear that the holiday was a good one for you--and happy to hear that January's a 'go' for that renew and rejuvenate time.
WITH a new putery thingy to mess about with, even! And STUFF!! :-)

Oh wow, SCROOGE!!! I LOVE that movie!!!!!! I watched "White Christmas" on Christmas day, and "Noel" on Christmas eve. I ADORE both those movies.

"I'm enjoyin' the Lucy book idea and will now go on a quest when I land at Barnes and Bankruptsy next. It looks like a fun one!"

Yes, it sure is a fun one! I haven't read the whole book, but what I did read was faaaaaaaaaaaabulous! The best part is the replicated memorabilia that's at the beginning of each chapter. It's soooo cool! My brother was so thoughtful in giving that book to me this year.

    YAY, Tom!

I am so looking forward to having January off to just chill out and renew. I am planning a trip to NYC at the beginning of the month and can't wait to go!

  41. A creative new way for hubby to get me to WANT to do the laundry... if he showed up in the basement with a ribbon and some holly. It would give me something fun to do instead of clean lint off the dryer screen.

I think it's wonderful that you enjoyed some down time on Christmas. If we didn't have family coming over both days I would have loved to just relax!!

Yes, it was wonderful to just have a down time day on Christmas. The only time I left my apartment was to do my laundry in the basement. But other than that, I never left the building that day.

"Maybe you should send an 8x10 glossy of your Barbie photo to the Mattel company. You'll have your own line of dolls by next season I'm sure of it!!"

HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA! What a GREAT idea! I may do that in January when I have off. Hey, I may even start my own Esty Shop; selling Ron Barbie Dolls. And maybe you could even make the JEWELRY for the doll to wear!

Thanks soooo much for stopping by, M. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

I look forward to blogging with you in 2012!

Thanks for being such a great friend!

  45. Hey! Came from Peg's spin on your blog and she was right, you are quite a fun and humorous writer. Glad you got a day of rest after retail season. As a middle school teacher, I, too, relish time to myself.

  46. Greetings Pseudo~

Welcome! Thanks so much for stopping by via Peg's blog. It's soooooo nice to meet you!

    Tee, hee! Aren't I a silly man?

"As a middle school teacher, I, too, relish time to myself."

OMG, I bet you do. I once taught a creative dramatic class for two months during the summer to kids. And I can I just tell you how much I now appreciate and respect all you wonderful teachers out there? Holy cow...what a tough job teaching is. But, (as I'm sure you know) it's SUCH a rewarding one. As tiring as it was, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thanks again for stopping by and sharing a comment.

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

    Cheers!

  48. Ron,

You did just the right thing to do. You followed your heart. You spent the kind of Christmas you intuitively knew was the best for you. Good job! I totally see what you mean about needing some non-social time after all the hassle.

You did not get a Barbie!!!! You know what, I'll get you one for next Christmas. In France sometimes folks - well guys - would holler after me... "hey how are you Barbie?" So, would that no be suitable or what a big Barbie getting you a smaller Barbie. I ma honored if called Barbie. She's a gal who goes out there and does stuff... fearlessly!

Oh, and we share love for red wine and especially shiraaaaaz!

  49. Greetings Susu~

    Thank you, dear friend.

And yes, after you've been around TONS of people for practically the whole month, you CRAVE non-social time. So I REALLY enjoyed it.

"You did not get a Barbie!!!! You know what, I'll get you one for next Christmas."

OMG....you're such a SWEETHEART!!!! Bless you! I'll have my very OWN Barbie!!!!!!!

    HA!

" So, would that no be suitable or what a big Barbie getting you a smaller Barbie. I ma honored if called Barbie. She's a gal who goes out there and does stuff... fearlessly!"

    You GO, Barbie girl!

And you're right, it's an honor. Because she's a gal who goes out there and does stuff....fearlessly!!!!!

OMG...don't you just ADORE Shiraz????? I drank one once, that had the accent flavors of lavender and mocha. It was heavenly!

    Cheers, my friend!

And thanks so much for stopping by! Enjoy your week!

    Ciao bella!

OMG, YES, that would have been so much fun!!!! And it's funny you mentioned SATC because I almost bought myself the complete 6 season set this year for Christmas. And I may still do that when it goes on sale after New Years!

Don't ya LOVE Kiehl's???? Their lip balm is the BEST!

  54. I'm so glad to hear that you survived the holiday season intact! A former retail gal myself, I actually went shopping on Christmas Eve, even though I didn't even need anything!

My sister and I spent a quiet Christmas, too. Glad to see you back, my friend.

    xoxo

  55. Hiya Chrissy!

OMG...I just this SECOND finished leaving a comment on YOUR blog - how in sync we are!

"A former retail gal myself, I actually went shopping on Christmas Eve, even though I didn't even need anything!"

YIKES! How BRAVE you were to go out shopping on Christmas Eve! The last two hours in my store were INSANE! It was all the last minute shoppers (men) going crazy to find something for their women; asking us, "Why is nothing left???" HA!

"My sister and I spent a quiet Christmas, too."

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay! And I hope you and your sister had a GREAT one!

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl! Missed ya these past two weeks, but it's so nice to be back.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR, dear friend!

    (((( Chrissy ))))

X to you and the gang!

  56. Sounds like you had a fabulous Christmas Ron!! Having been in the retail world...I DO understand...believe me!! It can be total sensory overload!!! What a freakin' riot it would have been if you had run into another tenant while doing your laundry!!! Jingle those Bells...INDEED!! Bwahahahaha! The Lucy Book does look like it would be very interesting...she was an icon! Kiehl's is great stuff!!! Enjoy your time off!!! xoxo

  57. Too funny on so many fronts. First, I saw that book at Barnes and Noble and instantly thought of you. Second, while at Target right before Christmas and in line at the checkout it occurred to me that I hadn't checked out the Barbie in the little black dress collection to see about getting you one. Third, I felt exactly as you did even on Christmas Eve. If Jon and I hadn't already agreed to go to someone's house both Sat. and Sun. I would have said no. I was on people overload by last Thursday. I still don't want to socialize. It was a very cheery Christmas but I'm cheered out. Glad you had a relaxing day.

"Having been in the retail world...I DO understand...believe me!! It can be total sensory overload!!!"

You were in retail too??? Then you TOTALLY understand the sensory overload during this time of the year! All I wanted to do each night was take a nice hot shower and then sit in silence. Christmas day was great because I finally had the day to do NOTHING.

"What a freakin' riot it would have been if you had run into another tenant while doing your laundry!!! Jingle those Bells...INDEED!!"

Yeah, I'm sure they would have SCREAMED!

    Bwhahahahahahahahahahaha!

From the time I saw my first episode of I Love Lucy (when I was a kid), I was hooked! I LOVE LUCY!!! I even have the show on VHS tapes, so I can watch them over and over. And I laugh just a hard as I did seeing them the first time. Her comedy is timeless!

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Hope you had a faaaaaabulous Christmas!

I look forward to blogging with you in the New Year!

    Cheers!

  59. Hey there Jen~!

You should have seen me when I opened my brother's gift and saw the Lucy book - I acted like a little kid - I screamed with joy!

"while at Target right before Christmas and in line at the checkout it occurred to me that I hadn't checked out the Barbie in the little black dress collection to see about getting you one."

OMG....how FUNNY! And you know what they say about 'the little black dress" - it goes with EVERYTHING - HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!

The next time I'm in Target, I MUST look for that!

" If Jon and I hadn't already agreed to go to someone's house both Sat. and Sun. I would have said no. I was on people overload by last Thursday. I still don't want to socialize. It was a very cheery Christmas but I'm cheered out."

I sooooooo know what you mean because even this last week at work, I'm totally cheered out and can't wait to have the month of January off!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, my friend! Glad you had a very cheery Christmas!

We MUST talk on the phone sometime in January and catch up, okay?

Have a GREAT rest of your week!

    Cheers!
