Have I ever told you guys about my passionate love affair with olives?

I love all kinds of olives: black, green, Greek olives, pitted olives, garlic stuffed olives, you name it. And I can eat a TON of them. I will sometimes open a jar or can of olives and just sit there while watching a movie, eating half or ALL the container.

I also like them in salads, on pizza, in pasta, and in a sandwich; especially a hoagie.

And even though I only drink red wine, I’m tempted to try a martini just for the green olive.

Also, considering that I only just found out this week that olives are a fruit and not a vegetable, I wonder how they would taste with a banana in my morning bowl of Cheerios?

Yes, I eat so many olives I’m surprised I don’t have them coming out of EVERY orifice in my body.

Oh, and btw, you can also use olives for decorative purposes, did you know that? When I was a kid, I loved to take black olives (especially the LARGE ones) and place them on the end of my fingertips. Yeah, I know a lot of you probably did that as kids, but I did it for my own specific reason. I did it because it made me feel like I was wearing a set of Lee Press-On Nails. I would sit there at the dinner table and secretively imagine that I was actress, Vivien Leigh, all deck out in an evening gown and long red-polished fingernails; attending a Hollywood Gala Dinner, just after I won the Academy Award for Gone with the Wind.

I had so much fun doing this. But it was also very awkward because every time I tried to pick up my fork, the olives would POP off my fingertips and land on the kitchen floor.

Luckily, we had a German Shepard named, Ginger, who also loved olives. So she would leap up and gobble them off the linoleum.

About three days ago, I went to Traders Joe’s and purchased a can of black olives because I wanted to make some homemade pizza. But the sad part about it was that while I was getting stuff to put on the pizza, I forgot fresh basil leaves.

Major BUMMER!

But I made the pizza anyway, by adding more of the other toppings to make up for the lack of basil.

However, before I placed the olives on the pizza, I decided to have a little fun with them.

After you see these photos, you will most definitely have the right to call the Bellevue Psychiatric Ward and have me committed.

*Here’s their phone number: 212-563-3455

I honestly don’t know what possessed me to do this, but I did.

And no…..I did NOT eat these olives after I did this.

Okay, are you ready?

Allow me to present to you…..

Olive Orifice.

And this last one makes me look like a stuffed PIG!

Just call me…..Olive Oyle.

Wishing olive you a wonderful weekend!

    Umm...nope.

BUT, it doesn't surprise me that you did! (He says with fondness). And I do share your passion for olives. For EATING them, not wearing them, but still. Why do you think I like Bloody Marys so much??

Blue cheese stuffed olives are my favorite.

    Also laughing.

Yes I love olives but only since I went on a visit to Russia where I had them served with salad. They were delicious. Since nobody else on the ten seater table liked them I whipped the lot. I really must get a jar in for my next TV viewing session but I promise not to copy you and 'play' with them. I don't think they'd suit my complexion whaaaaaaa. Thanks for making me laugh. Have a fabulous Friday.

  4. Hi Ronnie,

You wild and crazy man, you! I am glad that you mentioned those olives used for filming were discarded. The thought did cross me mind...The photos were well done. They might be interesting in b&w. Like you did with one picture on another, and with your comical expressions, this could almost be a comic strip :)

Olives are also one of our fav nibblies here on our table. Yes, it is hard to stop eating them. Addictive is the word.
Again...taping olives to your fingers! I didn't do that one as a kid. I sticked to blowing bubbles in my milk with a straw. :)

You had Ginger, the Olive eating German shepard and we had Milord, the olive eating Siamese cat. He was featured on my old personal blog. M would go ballistic if he even smelled the oil when opening up a package. The "Meows" would go get more frenzied and you would have to shut him up by giving him a few!

Have a nice weekend, "Sweetpea" ;) xo

  5. Gee, Ron, I get the feeling you like olives. Back in the 70s I remember ads on the buses and trains reading "O-live it up!" I never acquired a taste for them, but I'm starting to wonder if maybe I'm missing something. Hell, if I don't like 'em, I can always wear 'em! Have a great weekend, buddy, and o-live it up!

  7. Ron, you are a HOOT! Love those pics!

I used to put olives on my fingers when I was a kid too. The difference was that I wouldn't eat them. I wanted the "olive nails", but mom was determined I wasn't going to mess up perfectly good olives just to play with. I had to sneak to do it! I am happy to say that since I have grown up I love a good olive!

Loving this new blog of yours! I wish I had time to even POST a blog here lately, let alone upgrade. I swear I've been so hard at it lately that I have to make time to breathe any more.

    Have a wonderful weekend, darlin'!

Aren't olives the BOMB? Oooo....oooo.....YES, I LOVE olives stuffed with blue cheese!!! And it's funny you mentioned that because yesterday at work I told a fellow coworker I was posting this today, and he said his favorite way to eat olives was with a blue cheese stuffing!

    YUM- MY!

  9. Good morning Akelamalu~

    Tee, hee....aren't I silly?

I can't decide if I like black or green olives best because I love them both so much. Green ones have a wonderful tang, whereas, the black ones are more smooth-tasting. However, I love Greek and Italian black olives because they have a combination of both tastes.

I'll look for that brand in the grocery store the next time I'm there. Thanks for letting me know!

Have a TERRIFIC weekend, m'dear! Thanks for stopping by!

You GO, dear lady!!!!! And how cool that you've visited RUSSIA! That's a country I have always wanted to see - especially in the dead of winter. I bet it's snowy and freezing!

"I really must get a jar in for my next TV viewing session but I promise not to copy you and 'play' with them. I don't think they'd suit my complexion whaaaaaaa."

Bwhahahahhhahahaha! It's funny because after I took these photos I kept smelling olives all afternoon, when I suddenly realized that the olive juice had crept into my moustache!

Aren't I a wild and crazy man? And you should have seen me trying to take these pictures, because the olives in my ears and nostrils kept POPPING out!!!!

Yes, you're right, these photos would look interesting in b&w! I just discovered a new photo editing website through another blogger, called, PicMonkey.com. I made that first shot (the can of olives) there. Check it out because it's a cool website.

Aren't olives a great little snack while watching a movie? Problem is, I can't stop eating them!

"Again...taping olives to your fingers! I didn't do that one as a kid. I sticked to blowing bubbles in my milk with a straw."

HA! Yes, I did that TOO!!! But I'm surprised that many of you are saying that you never put olives on your fingers because when I told the people at work that I was going to post this, many of them said, "Yes...yes....I use to do the same thing with olives when I was a kid!!!"

"we had Milord, the olive eating Siamese cat. He was featured on my old personal blog. M would go ballistic if he even smelled the oil when opening up a package. The "Meows" would go get more frenzied and you would have to shut him up by giving him a few!"

HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! And yaaaaaaaaaaaay....FINALLY someone else who used to do the same thing with olives! I was beginning to think that I was the only one here!!!

Glad you like the new blog template. It was a bit much to get it all done, but I'm so glad I did it. I learned a lot!

"I wish I had time to even POST a blog here lately, let alone upgrade. I swear I've been so hard at it lately that I have to make time to breathe any more."

  17. Firstly, you are totally mad (another similarity between us) One thing I would have done is worn them in my eyes! I used to put bottle tops in my eyes and walk nonchalantly into the room, making everyone fall apart laughing.

Secondly, I hate olives! Even the smell is gross to me, yet my mum loved them. Mo gets herself a jar of olives now and then, but I can't see the attraction.

    Bwhahahahhahahahahahahaha!

OMG...I SO wanted to that, but I couldn't figure a way to wear them in my eyes AND take my photo at the same time. I should have tried taking these photos lying down, so the olives would have stayed in place in my eyes - HA!

I know, MANY people don't care much for olives.

I guess it's kinda how I feel about onions.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, my mad friend! Have a glorious weekend!

  19. Ron, this post cracked me up! Those pictures of you are hilarious. And yes, that last one makes you look like a cute stuffed pig.

I too enjoy olives (maybe not as much as you do), but I do enjoy them in my food. I think I like green more than I do black because they're not as mushy.

Have a great weekend, Ron aka Olive Oyle!

  20. Hola Denise~

    Tee, hee....aren't silly?

And yes, don't I look like a STUFFED PIG in that last photo???? When I saw it, I died laughing!

True, green olives have much more of a firmness to them. And I also like their tangy taste, compared to black. But I LOVE black olives on a pizza or in sandwich. Green, I can enjoy just eating them all alone!

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl! Wishing you a flawless weekend!

"We can chalk it up to being Libras' if you like--I, too, can open a can and have at it."

I also had to laugh when you said you put the olives on your fingertips “because it made me feel like I was wearing a set of Lee Press-On Nails”! Oh.my.gawd! When I was young I used the caulking putty my parents had for winterizing the windows!

It was gray and I formed it onto my fingernails then painted it with nail polish. The only problem was it never hardened so I couldn’t do a darn thing! But I thought they looked SO glam…move over Vivien Leigh!

Aw....glad you enjoyed my silly pictures! About three hours later, I could STILL smell olives in my moustache hair!!!

It's hard for me to decide WHICH olive I like best because I truly them both. But if I HAD to choose it would be black, because there seems to be more diversity in black olives.

"It was gray and I formed it onto my fingernails then painted it with nail polish. The only problem was it never hardened so I couldn’t do a darn thing! But I thought they looked SO glam…move over Vivien Leigh!"

  49. OH how I loved those photos!!! Needed the laugh too, for sure!
Hubby is totally into olives too. I can eat them in some dishes but don't really like them by themselves.

NO basil. OH.THE.HORROR! Last night for dinner, I had fresh baked bread from Wegmans and dipped it in olive oil with sea salt, cracked pepper, oregano AND BASIL. YUM!
