Post updates by email:

Well folks, in just two more days I will be getting on a plane and heading down to South Florida, where for the next two weeks I will be basking on white sandy beaches; donning a tight blue Speedo and slathering Hawaiian Tropic suntan oil all over my body, while checking out the stud muffins on surfboards over the rim of my mirrored aviator sunglasses.

Yeah, and if you believe that you also believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy.

NOT!

Yes, I AM going to Florida for two weeks but have no intention of sunning myself because my skin tanning days are over. After 20 years of living in Florida, I really don’t enjoy lying in the sun anymore. I still like the beach, but more so at dusk. However, I will be using a self-tanner because I don’t want to appear too conspicuous as one of those ‘up northerners’ whose skin looks like homogenized milk – so I’m going to FAKE it. Like an ORGASM.

Oooo….and do you remember me telling you last month how afraid I was to fly?

Well, I’m STILL afraid, but not as bad as I thought I would be.

Actually, what I’m more afraid of is that my flight is SO EARLY in the morning on Monday, I fear not hearing my clock alarm and missing the plane. I figured out that I have to get up at 4:30AM to catch an airport shuttle at 6:00AM, which will take me to the Philadelphia Airport to make my 8:00AM flight. And those of you who have been reading my blog for a while know that I AM NOT A MORNING PERSON. I was actually thinking of asking those of you who live in Europe to ring my apartment with a wakeup call at 4:30AM because it will already be 10:30AM where you are. Anyone interested? If you are, I promise to mail you one of those of tacky souvenirs like, Florida Canned Sunshine, as a thank you gift.

Honestly though, I am BEYOND happy to be taking this 14-day holiday right now, that I could simultaneously blow bubbles and whistle “Stars and Stripes Forever” out of my ass through a plastic straw!

Not only am I looking forward to spending quality time with my mother and brother after not seeing them in FIVE years, but I’m also looking forward to spending time just BEING. I have no plans other than just taking each day as it comes and playing it by ear. I want to be void of any schedule.

Therefore, for the next two weeks my blogging will be off-sync. I will definitely be posting and sharing some highlights (and photos) of my vacation, but it will be erratic. I also don’t know how much time I will have to respond to comments and visit your blogs, but I will do my best to stop by and say Hi when I can in the evenings. Thank you for understanding.

I’ll miss you guys like hell, but will be thinking of you while I’m in South Beach and dancing with my close friend, Madonna, to Vogue at a hot gay night club.

*insert vogue hand movements*

Anyhow, I would like to leave you with various images I have captured over the past few months.

Please enjoy….

  1. Hi Ronnie,
So, it's time! OMG; I know how anxious that I can feel before a big departure so, I can understand you. Yes, you an an early bird special out of Phila In'tl.
I would be very happy to ring you up but, horribly afraid if I screwed up and called too late. You are either going to have to trust your alarm! It will be fine; that is just anxiety kicking in.

I know that you are not a sun worshiper. When I was away, I did take in some sun but, sat like lump on a log in the shade while someone I know splashed in the water... he got more sunburnt than I did depite the sunscreen(I think that the UV was not high enough).

As to your blogging, enjoy your vacation and with pleasure to read any posts you might make from FL. You have a great time; I will be missing ya.
Have a safe journey. You can do it, Ronnie! You will ace those flights.

Isn't that the best way to enjoy a vacation?

Aaww I shall miss you, my friend. Isn't it strange how we can miss folk we've never met? Strange, but nice. I hope you have a wonderful time and don't forget to give your mother hugs from all of us. Just thinking about all that sun makes me envious... I'd swap anything for our continuous rain.

It was kind of you to leave some pictures for us stay-at-homes to browse through. Love the legs in the window (wish mine were as good) and the mansion (wish mine was a good!).

    Ciao, for now. Have fun.

  4. "I want to be void of any schedule." Now that's my idea of heaven!!! Just freakin' go somplace and do whatever the hell you want!!

I share your fear of flying, Ron, and I freak out about missing my flight, too! It's so crazy--like a guy on death row who's afraid he'll be late for his own execution. But seriously, Ron, I hope you have the greatest vacation of all time. Enjoy, hang out, see your mom (God bless her!) and brother and vogue until Madonna keels over!

Btw, when I ogle the bikini-clad girls in Central Park I pretend I'm reading the New York Times. I just thought I'd pass that along in case you decide to scope out some stud muffins!

    Have a great time, buddy!

  5. GREAT photos! Have a super-de-duper good time, Ron! We will miss you!

And yeah, the whole early flight thing is a bitch! I might as well not go to bed because I'm awake the whole night worrying that the electric will go off and my alarm clock will not ring and then I'll miss the flight. So I wind up setting a battery clock up too, and my cell phone. And still lying awake all night,...........

  7. Bonjour Barb~

"I know how anxious that I can feel before a big departure so, I can understand you."

OMG, I know...it's feelings of excitement, anticipation, fear and joy! Also, I have a list of some last minute things I have to do before Monday. I spent yesterday afternoon running around the city in 100 degree heat shopping for stuff I needed.

"I know that you are not a sun worshiper."

NOT! And I'm not even bringing a bathing suit. If I should I decide to do some late in the day swimming in my mothers' condo pool, I'll just buy a bathing suit while I'm there.

"You can do it, Ronnie! You will ace those flights."

Thanks so much for your FLYING encouragement, my friend. Actually, I'm not nearly as fearful as I thought I would be :)

Have a great weekend! I'll see see ya in Florida next week!

  9. Good morning Valerie~

"Isn't that the best way to enjoy a vacation?"

It sure is! I told my mother that I just want to hang with her and my brother and just chill; doing whatever we feel like doing each day.

Aw...I'll miss you too, dear lady. Yes, it's strange, but nice how we can miss folks we haven't met.

"and don't forget to give your mother hugs from all of us."

I sure will! I'm going to give her several hugs from everyone here.

"Just thinking about all that sun makes me envious... I'd swap anything for our continuous rain."

Yes, it's been raining a lot here too. But what's odd is that it's not as rainy and hot in Florida as it is here. Normally, summer in Florida is excruciating hot, humid and rainy.

Glad you enjoyed the photos. I saw those legs in the window a few weeks ago and just HAD to take a shot - HA!

Have a wonderful weekend, and I'll see you next week in Florida!

"I freak out about missing my flight, too! It's so crazy--like a guy on death row who's afraid he'll be late for his own execution."

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Isn't that CRAZY?!?!?

You're absolutely right! I'm truly thinking about just staying up until 4:30 and sleeping on the plane because I KNOW I won't sleep right Sunday night anyway.

  13. Ron, I am so excited and happy for you. I just know you're going to have such a beautiful reunion with your mother and brother after not seeing one another for so long, and after all that your family has gone through these past months. Be sure to take lots of photos and keep us update when you can. And hug your mom for me!

I really enjoyed these photos. I love the one of the door in Rittenhouse Square. It's just beautiful!

    Have a wonderful time, Ron.

Aw...thanks. Yes, I too feel like this is going to be a beautiful reunion with my mother and brother. We are all so EXCITED about seeing each other on Monday!!!! And yes, I will be SURE to hug my mother for you and take LOTS of photos!

Glad you enjoyed the photos. The one of the door in Rittenhouse Square is one of my favorites because it looks vintage. Rittenhouse has some of the most stunningly old homes that date back to the early 1900's.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl! Have a super weekend and I'll see ya in Florida next week!

    Hi Laurel!!!!!!!

Aw, thank you. My whole family is happy about the news that we could bust!

Listen, I'm no longer on FB so you won't be able to message me there. If you want, just click my CONTACT page on this blog and you will find my email address there. I think I may already have YOUR phone number (but I'm not sure if you changed it), but I'll take it with me on Monday.

And YES! I would love to meet up with you while I'm there! I may even be taking a trip to Orlando during my two-week stay, but I'm going to have to see if it works out with borrowing my mothers car for a couple of days. If not, we can at least touch base by phone!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Talk to ya soon!

    XOXO

  19. Five years! Wow! That will be a great reunion and with something to really celebrate too! Have a fantastic holiday and don't worry about us. Just soak it all up while you're there. Think of us while your soaking up the sun though, with our torrential rain, winds and flash flooding. It's been the most miserable summer I have ever known.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hey Babs~

Yes, can you believe it? FIVE years! Both my brother and mother have come to Philly to visit me a couple of times when I moved back east, but because of my FEAR of flying I have never visited them. However, NOW I'm going to walk through my fear and DO IT!

"That will be a great reunion and with something to really celebrate too! Have a fantastic holiday and don't worry about us. Just soak it all up while you're there."

Thank you, yes, it will be something to celebrate and soak up :)

It's ironic because it has been raining a lot everywhere in the U.S. too, EXCEPT Florida, which is notorious for it's RAIN during the summer. It's also not as hot there this summer as it's been here, so I'm really looking forward to it!

I'll most definitely be posting photos of my trip on my blog these next two weeks, but not sure how frequent.

Thanks for stopping by, my friend. Have a great weekend and I'll see ya in Florida!

    X to you and Mo!

  21. Ron, I just put on self-tanner spray yesterday and David was teasing me because I had stripes going down my legs! They are much better today because I evened them out with some self-tanning cream (Jergen’s) before I went to bed (I did let it dry first!).

I HATE getting ready for the Airport too! I’m NOT a morning person either so I’m always afraid I’ll be late. Before the TSA strip-searched us I used to arrive fifteen minutes before my flight left! THOSE were the days! Now I have to get up before the damn birds and drink a gallon of coffee, smoke a pack of cigarettes and try to smuggle my lighter somewhere on my body where the TSA won’t find it in the hopes I’ll find a place to smoke when I get to where my lay-over is. By the time I get to my destination, I’m exhausted and need a freaken nap.

I’m so happy for you, Ron, that I’m doing “Vogue” hand movements too! It’s so funny, my niece was two years old when that song came out and WE did “Vogue” hand movements all the time. When she saw Madonna she would say “Aunt Pammy”!

    I LOVE your photos—AGAIN!

The Jewelry Store window looks like it has little Barbie chairs!

Love your headphones (doing the shadow puppet). What music were you listening to? Madonna’s Vogue?

    Have a fantabulous weekend!

    Hiya Pam!

"They are much better today because I evened them out with some self-tanning cream (Jergen’s) before I went to bed (I did let it dry first!)."

OH. MY. GOD.!!!!! I cannot believe you use JERGEN'S because that's I what I use too!!!!! In fact, I just bought a new tube a few days ago. Don't you love Jergen's? It's natural-looking and very inexpensive. And I like the way it smells!

"I HATE getting ready for the Airport too! I’m NOT a morning person either so I’m always afraid I’ll be late. Before the TSA strip-searched us I used to arrive fifteen minutes before my flight left!"

Yes, that's what I'm dreading! Getting there early enough so that I can check in and get FRISKED an hour and half before my flight. My flight is early, so I'm hoping that the airport won't be too crowded with LONG lines.

"I’m so happy for you, Ron, that I’m doing “Vogue” hand movements too!"

Don't you LOVE that song? Last night before I went to bed I went over to You Tube and watched it again. That's actually one of my favorite Madonna songs and videos - it's stunning in black and white.

"The Jewelry Store window looks like it has little Barbie chairs!'

HAHAHAHHAHAHA! I never thought of that but you're right....they do look like little Barbie chairs!!!

"Love your headphones (doing the shadow puppet). What music were you listening to? Madonna’s Vogue?"

Thank you. No, I was listening to a song from K.D. Lang. I took that shot completely spontaneously. I suddenly saw my shadow and decided to make shadow puppet like when I was a kid - HA!

Thanks oodles for stopping by, Pam. Hope you had wonderful Friday. Can you believe it's already the weekend? We just got hit with a TON of rain and it cooled every off. It was 100 degrees yesterday and today - UGH!

    Have fantabulous week!

Can't wait for the speedo pix.

In all seriousness, I am so happy you get to see your mom and brother, and I can't WAIT to see the pictures. You will be FINE on the flight. Unless you watched either LOST or the Twilight Zone movie. ha ha!

    xxxooo safe trip!

  24. Have an absolutely wonderful time! Please keep us updated as much as possible. Can't wait to hear how your mom is and everything you do while in beautiful Florida.

On another note, I'm so in love with your photography. You should think about selling it on Etsy. The 1914 door is fabulous!

  25. I know you are over-the-moon excited about seeing your mother and brother. Two weeks to do anything, everything, or absolutely nothing sounds just divine! I'm sure your time there will be just perfect.

As for the early hour, the best thing about it is that you're not losing a day to travel. Even though it's only a 2-3 hour flight, if it were in the middle of the day it just might take longer for everything.

Love the photos. Something about the red church door and the sexy black stockings right next to each other... I don't know whether to kneel in prayer or perform a song from 'Sister Act'. Haha!

Happy travels. Hugs to mom for all she's gone through and for how well she's now doing. Enjoy your visit. Oh, how I know you will.

  26. Hey there Katherine~

As I shared with you on one of your posts this week, I'm LOVIN' your photography. You have a very natural eye for the camera, my friend. Truly! I just leaned photography by doing and keep on leaning. The best thing I could have done (like you) is purchased a camera because I'm having so much fun with it.

"Heyyy guys can't fake orgasms, can they??? Learn me learn me! LOLOL!"

Bwhahahahahahaha! See! I was just testing you. You're right, guys CAN'T fake an orgasm!

"You will be FINE on the flight. Unless you watched either LOST or the Twilight Zone movie. ha ha!"

Yeah, I was thinking of watching the movie "Final Destination" on Sunday night before I get on the plane - HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Thank you. The 1914 door is one of my favorites. I took that photograph around Rittenhouse Square. It was one of those BIG old houses that sits right off the park, next to the Dorchester Condominiums.

Yes, I AM over-the-moon about seeing my mother and brother. We talked on the phone last night and are so excited about Monday!!!

"As for the early hour, the best thing about it is that you're not losing a day to travel. Even though it's only a 2-3 hour flight, if it were in the middle of the day it just might take longer for everything."

You're absolutely right! That's one of the reasons why I booked an earlier flight because I figured there would less of a hassle checking in and less flight delays. Plus, my brother has to go to work Monday morning after he picks me up.

"Something about the red church door and the sexy black stockings right next to each other... I don't know whether to kneel in prayer or perform a song from 'Sister Act'. Haha!"

Bwhahahahahhahaha! OMG...that was HILARIOUS!!!!!!! And I didn't even notice that, but you're right....'Sister Act!'

Thanks so much for stopping by, neighbor! And yes, I will give my mom a hug from all you guys!

I am so glad for all of you. Time for celebrations of TODAY. Cuz it's a treasured gift and there's oodles of reasons to celebrate.
Beach time won't be bad either.....LOL...though I tell ya, I was four blocks from the beach and never once got there when I was in sunny California. And I don't regret it--not because I don't like beaches, but because it woulda meant being in a place SHE wasn't. And we had miles to do and things to do, as you well know.

Safe journey......love 'em like crazy.....BE where your feet are and feel the feelings, no matter how uncomfortable some of those might be. It's what's true, it's what's necessary at this point in the journey and it's the loving thing to do.

  41. Ron -- You'll do well on the plane, I know it. No worries, buddy. Enjoy your time with your family and enjoy NOT being in the sun. You and me on a sandy beach? We'd be the two old farts sitting under a giant umbrella with enormously-brimmed hats and a portable air conditioner. p.s. I love pictures big 'ol doors. Keep 'em coming. Bon voyage!

  49. If anyone can rock the Vogue hand movements it's gotta be you, Ron. And I'd be willing to trade you a can of Oregon rain for Florida sunshine, but I won't be giving you a wakeup call because there is no way in hell I'm getting my butt up at 1:30 my time to do so.

Bon voyage, and don't worry about your flight - it'll be fine! Have a bag of peanuts for me.

  50. Hey man, have a great time on your vaca! Oddly enough, the wife and kid are going to be flying back to Wisconsin to visit her folks this Wednesday, and I too will need to wake up at 4:30am to drive them to the airport. I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to function for the rest of the day at work. Argh...

"A door in Rittenhouse Square" - This looks like an album cover. Love it!
