Post updates by email:

I spent part of this week going through all the photos I’ve uploaded from my camera to my computer; deciding which ones to keep and which ones to toss into my recycle bin and then delete.

I’m sure you all know how easy it is to start collecting picture after picture, swearing you’re going to eventually use them one day, but never do. And then before you know it, you have HUNDREDS of photographs on your computer which slow it down.

I’m one of those anal retentive people who is always freeing up disk space and defragmenting my hard drive because I like my computer to run smooth and fast.

And just for the record, I’m also anal retentive when it comes to deleting emails because I can’t stand seeing my mail box FULL of emails. If there’s more than three sitting in my box, I get claustrophobic. Yet, I once had a friend who saved every single email she ever got, dating back to 3000 BC. The first time she showed me her email box I broke out in hives and hyperventilated.

I don’t like clutter of any kind. I feel better if things are tidy and spacious.

Today, I would like to share some of the photographs I decided to keep, which are from this past spring and summer.

There is no particular theme to these photos, just a hodgepodge of images.

Please enjoy….

  1. Those are absolutely amazing pictures, Ron! WOW! You need to get an external hard drive to keep stuff on.

I met a guy who's name was Woody Cox! LOL Can you believe it! Woodrow Cox! Silly parents.

  2. I'm glad you decided to keep these pictures, Ron. The first one deserved a longer study... loved it, but then I love all those you take.

Guess what I was doing yesterday? Would you believe I was going through my pictures and deleting those I didn't want. Haha some weren't even good enough to take up hard-drive space. I have a remote hard drive as well, which is full.

Email? I delete after one day. Hubs saves EVERYTHING. I'm like you (again) in liking tidyness, even on a computer.

Wishing you a helluva of a Friday. Enjoy the weekend too.

  3. Once again, I am exactly the same, Ron! I delete emails immediately, unless there is info in them that I need. I like that inbox empty! And I can't believe some of those photos aren't from Europe! Gorgeous!

  4. Beautiful photos, Ron. I've said before that you have a great eye and these pictures are further proof of that.

I envy you anti-clutter crusade. I'm really bad when it comes to clutter and I have every email I've ever received since they invented the Internet!

Thanks for these fabulous images. It's a way to start my day! Have a picture perfect weekend, buddy, and remember: a picture is worth a thousand words, but a picture of Woody's is priceless!

  5. Hello Lady Nitebyrd~

    Thank you.

Yes, and you're right....I do need to get an external hard drive. I actually have one of those USB plugin flash drives that I sometimes use to transfer stuff from my laptop to my desktop computer, so I could actually use that. But I'm always afraid (because it's so small) that I'm going to lose it.

"I met a guy who's name was Woody Cox! LOL Can you believe it!"

    Bwhahahahahhaahah! OMG....that's HILARIOUS!!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Sis. Always FAB to see ya!

    Have a terrrrrrrrific weekend!

    X ya!

  6. Good morning Valerie~

    Thank you, dear lady.

Yes, that first one has a lot going on in it, I agree. In fact, after I uploaded it to my computer, I kept staring at it; seeing stuff that I hadn't seen when I took the photo. I can't remember the name of it, but it's a quaint little French-style cafe on Rittenhouse Square. Every time I pass it I think I'm in FRANCE!

"Guess what I was doing yesterday? Would you believe I was going through my pictures and deleting those I didn't want. Haha"

    Oh, how funny!!!!

And yes, I do need to get an external remote hard drive as well.

"Email? I delete after one day. Hubs saves EVERYTHING. I'm like you (again) in liking tidyness, even on a computer."

THANK YOU. I do the same thing. The only emails I will save are one's that have links to information that I want to check out later. But the rest I will delete right after I read them.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by. Have a helluva Friday and weekend too!

  7. Hey there Bijoux~

"Once again, I am exactly the same, Ron! I delete emails immediately, unless there is info in them that I need."

Exactly, I'm the same way. As I shared with Valerie in my comment to her, I only save emails that have 'links' to information that I want to check out at a later time. The rest....DELETE.

"And I can't believe some of those photos aren't from Europe!"

Philadelphia has a lot of European architecture influence, so MUCH of the city resembles European cities.

Thanks for stopping by, my friend. Have a SUPER weekend!

  8. Hey there Rob~

Thanks for your kind and encouraging words, buddy.

"I envy you anti-clutter crusade. I'm really bad when it comes to clutter and I have every email I've ever received since they invented the Internet!"

I think for me because I've always lived in small apartments most of my life, I've gotten into this 'mind frame' of keeping things clutter-free. I'm not much of a collector or saver of things, either. I remember a time when I saved EVERY SINGLE Playbill from EVERY SINGLE play or musical that I went to. Then one day I thought, "Why the hell are you saving these things?" I realized I was saving them to only hold on to the memories. So, one day I tossed them all out because I realized the memories will always be 'inside' me, I didn't need the Playbills to remind me.

"and remember: a picture is worth a thousand words, but a picture of Woody's is priceless!"

HA! Thanks, Rob! Have a super weekend!

  9. Ron, amazing photos! That first one of the sidewalk cafe is absolutely beautiful. It looks like a snap shot from a foreign movie. I love the guy standing on the corner texting! Lovely photographs of the Buddha statues too.

Oh, you would hate seeing my email box because it's always full. However, I do keep my apartment clutter-free and organized. I'm also one to not keep junk mail and papers around. My desk at home is very clean and neat.

    Have a wonderful weekend, Ron.

    Thank you :)

" It looks like a snap shot from a foreign movie."

OMG...you're right, it does! Like some Fellini movie!

I love having Buddha statues in my apartment because they give me such a wonderful sense of peace and serenity whenever I look at them.

"I'm also one to not keep junk mail and papers around. My desk at home is very clean and neat."

Yes, I'm the same way! I have this 'thing' about junk mail and paper. I can't stand having it all around me. I have one area on my desk where I keep my bills, but once they're paid...I toss them in the trash.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a wonderful weekend too!

  12. Before you delete them, save them on a disc! I really should take some off of my computer but I haven't.

  13. Yet again we are the same! I always read and delete my emails. I only keep those that are important or that I need to refer back to. Then every now and then I go through them, deleting all that I don't need anymore. I have two sisters that have kept years and years of emails. One of them said she had over 30,000 emails! Why?

Unfortunately, I do have thousands of photographs on my Mac. Unlike Windows PC's, Mac doesn't use the disk space in the same way, so it has no effect on how smoothly or fast it runs.

The first photo is my favourite :)

That's exactly what I do too! I've had a couple in my box for the past month, which I just recently deleted.

"I have two sisters that have kept years and years of emails. One of them said she had over 30,000 emails! Why?"

OMG!!!!!!!! I'm breaking out in hives and hyperventilating just reading that - HA!

" Unlike Windows PC's, Mac doesn't use the disk space in the same way, so it has no effect on how smoothly or fast it runs."

WOW! I had no idea about that when it comes to Mac versus PC's.

Well...that's WHY Mac's are the BOMB!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Babs! Have a great weekend!

  17. I am the same way, Ron! I get so freaked if there's too many emails in my mail box. It makes me feel overwhelmed and anxious. And like you, I also defragment my hard drive at least once every two weeks. I just recently got a new desktop, so I want to keep it running smooth.

Really nice photos, man. The first two are my favorites. The one of the Drake looks like it has a halo around it. Cool!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hiya Matt~

"I also defragment my hard drive at least once every two weeks. I just recently got a new desktop, so I want to keep it running smooth."

I usually defragment my computer ONCE a week (I know, I'm anal). The last computer I had I hardly ever defragmented, yet I can see how beneficial it is to keeping my PC running smoother. I purchased my current PC about a year ago, and it's running smooth and fast. And I think it has a lot to do with freeing up disk space and defragmenting.

"The one of the Drake looks like it has a halo around it. Cool!"

Yes, isn't that surreal? Yet, I didn't notice it until after I uploaded it to my computer.

Always great seeing ya, bud. Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!

  19. Ron,

These photos are FANTASTIC!! I love the bee one. So pretty! I think keeping stuff cleaned out is awesome, but I can't delete photos. No. No. No. Even worse, I have backups of my photos (unedited ones). I'll burn CDS when my backup hard drive is too full. Lol.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh, don't make me pick....... I'm partial to the first one, and the bees and the Buddah and the windows.....ohmygosh the windows! k.....see, the're too cool. TOLD ya not to make me pick!

I have an external drive that I keep all the full sized photos on, but I save the ones on the computer (resized) that I like for the year....and then transfer them to a disk (which later gets played on the television/computer). Now--why I do that, I have no clue. LOL But it does free up the computer and keeps the photos from getting lost in some meltdown! I've sent on copies of the disks to the sister--she misses the midwest and adores the photos. LOL She's the sister, she's suppose to adore anything I do! Hahahaha!!

Now, the emails.....GONE. They come, they get read, they get deleted. I don't do that daily--I have weblogs to visit, dontchaknow!! But I do get there and they do get read, answered and deleted.
Much like you, I don't like the cluttered mess of having to remember what's read, what's answered, and what's WHAT!

I do have to laugh at the sister who's very much like me. She gets, she answers, she destroys and keeps moving. And when I visited her--she had some 2,300 SENT emails in her sent box. *laughing* No worries, we cleaned that AND her deleted email box out as well......AND set it up to automatically empty when she closed out of the program. *shaking head* "Well, I sent them.....so why are they still there!!"

You'd be surprised how many folks I work with that have that same impression!
    Oy......LOL

    Empty.
    Empty.
    Empty.

    Less is better, I'm told.
SOMEtimes I listen to that......sometimes.....*laughing* NOTSOMUCH!!

  24. Ron, everyone of these photos are really, really great! WOW...such variety. Amazing closeup of the bees.

Like you, I delete emails quickly. I read them, then delete them. The only ones I keep are the ones I need to refer back to if someone sends me links to sites. I don't take a lot of photos myself, but might I suggest burning them to a disc? I do that with my music because I collect a lot of music.

  25. Hi Robert~

Thank you, bud. The one of bees I took using a macro setting to that close up effect. I also cropped afterwards, to make it even appear closer.

Yes, you're like the FOURTH person to suggest burning my photos to a disc, so thank you. Great suggestion! I also burn my music to disc's but never thought of doing the same with my photos?!?!

I have like a gazillion pictures on my computer because I just know I will use them one day, or either Cindy will ask "Jimmy didn't you take a picture of so and so back in 97 when we went to the lake with them", I immediately begin my search and try to remember which folder I have the so and so at the lake pictures in Ha Ha

Woodys yep that would be the name, to the other extreme I actually had a neighbor once whose name was Richard Wilt, yes his nickname was Dick, I always wondered what his parents were thinking.

Do you remember BEFORE digital camera's came out when we would take paper photos and then put them in albums? OMG...I still have books and books of albums! The thing I like better about digital is that is saves so much space and you can have the pictures virtually FOREVER!

  31. I use a Nikon L22. It's just a point and shoot camera, nothing fancy. I think paid about $90.00 for it about a year and a half ago. It's a great little camera, but eventually I want to get one that's a bit more advanced.

I do most of my photo processing/editing over at PicMonkey. It's a free online photo editing website and it's AWESOME. Check it out.

  32. ron, i love the pics! absolutely beautiful and thoughtful. the first one is my favorite, it does look european. we have to do a photo walk soon - before the snow comes.

i too, hate a junky inbox and clean/delete on a regular. my boss has over 4,000 emails in her inbox, it would be closer to 10,000, but i deleted some of that crap. i can't understand why people fear the delete button, it's there for a freaking reason. people i know keep emails that say something simple as: okay. delete that crap! please.

    i hate clutter.

  36. " I dig through them at times and scan them for one reason or another...."

Yes! I've done the same thing. Before you and I met (probably about 3 1/2 years ago), I did a family photo post on my blog that had pictures of my siblings and family. They were all black and white, and some of them had faded (dating back to the '50s), so they were REALLY old-looking.

They even smelled old - HA!

  38. Ron, I need YOU to take my pictures for the October photo challenge... PLEASSSEEEEEEEEe? :D I have someone at work teaching me all about aperture, shutter speed etc. He gives me something to work on each week. Of course I am two behind! But it has helped. My favorite look is where there is crisp in a picture and there is blur. My camera is nice but is a "toy" compared to "real" cameras... so I can only do so much on it - it is very limited and will only get "so sharp." What kind of camera do you have? I love your photos. The ones I lingered on the most were the pub and the guy checking his phone... all of them are wonderful - but those in particular made me stop to really examine everything... you are an excellent photographer!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hey there Katherine~

"I have someone at work teaching me all about aperture, shutter speed etc. He gives me something to work on each week."

Good for you, girl! I to be honest, I know NOTHING about those things so you're WAY ahead of me! I just point and shoot, and then edit my photos AFTERWARDS to get the effects I want. I have no idea HOW to get those effects WHILE I'm taking the picture so there's probably a lot you can teach ME.

"My favorite look is where there is crisp in a picture and there is blur."

OMG...I CANNOT believe you said that because that's MY favorite look too. I love a photo with a BLURS because it contains MOVEMENT.

I use a Nikon L22 point and shoot. It too is very limited so that's why I do most of my "effects" post-production.

Thanks so much for stopping by and for your supportive and encouraging words. I'm still learning so much about photography and will continue to do so.

I'm one of those guilty of no deleting emails. I let them build up until there are a couple hundred and then finally sort them all into appropriate folders. My work email was even worse.
