A Drive Back To The 1950's

Isn’t it funny how whatever time period you were born in, you really didn’t notice or appreciate the style back then?

I was born in the 1950's and thought of it as the most boring decade when it came to fashion and style; whether it be the clothing, home décor, automobiles, or even the music that was popular back then.

For some reason, everything seemed so humdrum and flavorless.

Here is a photo of me when I was only a year old. And you can tell by the expression on my face how bored I was.

It looks like I'm thinking, "What the HELL am I doing here in the '50's?!?"

I guess that must be because we were in such a hurry to grow up and move on, that we bypassed it.

Well, the whole reason I decided to post this today is because last week I visited a women’s clothing store that specializes in vintage reproductions of the ‘50's fashion - Bettie Page.

And as I walked through the door, it was as though I had stepped over a magic threshold that transported me from 2013 to the 1950’s.

It literally felt like I was back there because the whole store is designed in the ‘50’s style – from the light fixtures, display cases, and photos on the walls. Even the music they play is from the ‘50’s.

And the cherry on the top is that all the women who work there are dressed from head to toe in ‘50’s fashion; including hair and makeup.

As I slowly made my way around the store, I began looking at all the merchandise they offered, when it suddenly HIT me.

Wow…the 1950’s were GREAT!

After I got home, I went online and started researching the fashion of the '50's. And what impressed me the most was that the clothing back then actually had a distinct and defining style.

Women’s attire was feminine, chic and sexy; flattering the female form.

And men’s attire was masculine, tailored and handsome; flattering the male form.

So as tribute to the 1950’s, I would like to take you on a drive back to the past.

Most of these images are recreations.

And this just goes to show how great style…never dies.

Rather, it has a way of being reincarnated.

Yup, now when I look back on the 1950's, I can see how great it was!

And I wonder if people will look back to the fashion and style of today, and see them as GREAT?

Wait…what fashion? What style?
