Post updates by email:

If you were reading my blog last year at this time, I’m sure you remember the mistake I made in miscalculating my birthday.

I thought I was turning 58 when in reality, I was turning 57.

And I wouldn’t have even realized I made the mistake if it hadn’t been for my brother Tom who informed me, “No, Ron…you are not 58 this year, you’re 57. Because if you subtract 1955 from 2012, you get 57.”

DUH…I have no idea how I did that, other than attributing it to my consistent F-grade in mathematics all through grammar and high school. But thanks to my brother, I ended up being a year younger than I thought I was.

However on Wednesday, October 2, I WILL be 58.

And if you know me well, you know I have a fascination with astrology. It’s not that I read my daily horoscope every day and follow it, but I have researched this topic and have also had my astrological chart done by a professional astrologer many years ago. And let me tell you folks, this guy was spot on. He knew (even before doing my chart) that my rising sign was Virgo, just from talking to me. And when he showed me the completed chart, he said, “See, what did I tell you? Look (pointing to my chart) your rising sign IS Virgo!”

Some people view Astrology as silly or cultish, but it's not. It is a very detailed study of patterns and relationships - of planets in motion, our birth chart, synastry with others, the make-up of elements - and using that knowledge as a tool to find meaning.

And to become a professional astrologer, it takes a great deal of education and work because it’s not easily learned.

I have also read that Astrology may even be a science.

I don't use Astrology as a means of predicting my future because quite frankly, I don't want to know my future. I use Astrology as an overview to better understand myself and others.

Example: Through having my astrological chart done, I discovered that I was born in a year when October had a double full moon. Therefore, I am greatly affected by the moon. Prior to a full moon I feel very tired and spacey, but then ON and AFTER a full moon I feel extremely energized and alert.

My astrological sun sign is Libra. And so much of what I read about the sign fits me to a T although, some things do not. But that’s because so many other variables come into play with your sun sign such as, the exact time and day you were born and your rising and moon sign.

*my moon sign is Aries

And it’s funny because both my mother and father were also Libras and we each had a lot of similar characteristics.

They say that being coupled or having a friendship with the same sun sign can either be a match made in heaven or hell on earth because you have too much in common, and will often clash. But I have to say that the easiest sign for me to get along with are other Libras.

In fact, many of my close friends are Libras. The thing I like about Libras is that we can sense how far to go with each other, before we know when to back off and give each other our space. My mother and I would have the most intense conversations with each other; having completely different and strong viewpoints, but it never turned into an argument because we knew when to stop. We respected each other’s boundaries.

Sure, Libras have challenges like, making a decision, being impatient, perfectionism, and can be fiercely independent.

But I have to say that I really enjoy being a Libra. I even like the word, Libra.

Anyway, since this is my birthday week, I thought I would give you guys and gals a birthday gift from me to you.

A reading of your sun sign.

I discovered a great astrology website called, Cafe Astrology, which gives an in depth description of each sun sign and their characteristics. I put together this little chart, so if you’re interested, just click on your astrological sun sign date below and it will take you there.

Update: If you don't know your moon or rising sign, just read your sun sign (and ignore the rest) because that will give you a basic overview.

Update 2: Thanks to one of my readers, Herman, he found a website for calculating your moon sign. Check it out because it's accurate - Lunarium.

And please share what your sun sign is if you leave a comment, because I love knowing what other people sun signs are.

Have fun reading about YOU.

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my fellow-Libras!

Have a SUPER Monday everyone!

  1. You know I really never gave much thought to my "sign". Here and there I would check out my horoscope for fun but never really paid much attention. But I gotta say the write up they have really does describe me. I am a cancer and according to the site you shared "Cancer natives are self-protective
and sensitive, and often retreat into themselves when hurt." This describes me to a T. I am the whole act of shutting down completely on lock. Its kind of weird reading something made by someone who doesnt know me from a hole in the wall describe me so perfectly. Thanks for the thought provoking post and of course, Happy Birthday to my best blogging buddy!

  3. Well Happy Birthday for Wednesday Ron and I wish I could find out I'm a year younger than I really am! lol

Astrology fascinates me and I find most people do conform to their birth signs. I and MWM are both Scorpios and I find I am attracted to other Scorpios, both male and female, as we tend to have the same characteristics and obviously I think I'm perfect so they must be too! *joking* Seriously though I can usually pick out a person's star sign by the way they act etc.

Have a great day on Wednesday m'deario. xxxx

  4. Oh...such a NICE prezzie! Thank you!
You and I share sun and moon signs--Libra and Virgo. *laughing* Probably explains a thing or two, huh?
There are huge pieces that 'fit' and some that made me laugh. I was a premature baby.....so I tell people that's why I'm all messed up in the horoscope department. I have no issue making decisions--I have an issue with those who don't wanna make a decision.....omg that makes me nutz when people talk something to death and don't DO. LOLOL

I don't think the things 'predict' my future, but I do think that there are forces in the heavens that contribute to my moods/thinking. (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!) I get a bit...hyper on/after a full moon, but apparently so does a good chunk of the rest of the world (check out the ER statistics for full moons.....holy cow.....).

Libra's are just energetic and zany...and we LIKE it that way! ;-)

Mostly I wanna wish you the happiest of birthday weeks! Birthday MONTH even! And yes...it's 58 this year....again.......ROFL OH my gosh that was such a telling moment!
    Happy Happy Birthday week!! :-)
Cake, ice cream and a good coffee works! ;-)

    Happy Happy birthday to you!!

  5. Hi Ron. I shan't comment on this, other than to say that I hope you have a great birthday (which you nearly share with Elaine, hers being on the 3rd) because I like you and don't especially want to piss you off.
Suffice to say, I probably won't be checking my sun sign, whatever that maybe.

  6. (sorry......I've been having problems with my ipad since I downloaded ios7.....grrrr) I switched to desktop now.......I meant to imply that I'm skeptical about most things like astrology, because I find that they generalize it so that it fits anyone if you really think about it. Like when ghost whispers say, "Someone whose name has an R is trying to reach out......do you know anyone who has passed with an R in their name?" Well, who DOESN'T??
Ok, but now if you tell me that Taurus's are skeptical, maybe I will believe you.........:) Love you and hope you have a GRAND day!

OMG...my brother Tom is a Cancer as well!

    (June 27th)

I can't remember when I actually started to get interested in Astrology, but I find it utterly fascinating because so much of much of what I read about my sun sign in particular is spot on. Like I shared, so many other things come into play when reading about your sign (like the specifics), but the basic sun sign reading does give a pretty good overview.

Glad you enjoyed the reading, girl. Thanks a bunch for stopping by and have a SUPER week!

  8. Hey there Bijoux!

Yes, I've been hearing from others (who use the Mac software) that ios7 is giving them trouble. In fact, my blogging friend Meleah posted something about that last week. It was the same way when PC's updated to VISTA. OMG...I hated that software and had for over FIVE years.

"Ok, but now if you tell me that Taurus's are skeptical, maybe I will believe you.........:)"

HA! You are too funny and I LOVE you!!!!

As I shared, so many other things come into play when understanding your sun sign. Yes, the basic description is GENERAL, but when you have your chart done by someone professional, they get a lot of information from you so that they can ZERO in on YOUR particular date (where you were born, the time, the day, etc.), so it's much more detailed.

Actually, I'm a very skeptical person, so I don't automatically believe everything. But I have to say, I find a lot of truth in Astrology.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaaaaaabulous week!

  10. Hey there Rob!

Aw....thank you. Yeah, this year I'm finally turning 58!!!!

"It's great how you and your mom could respect each other's boundaries. A lot of people aren't so fortunate."

She and I had the best relationship because we often had opposing views, but never allowed it to anger us. She and I could be very opinionated (Libra), but we respected each others opinions.

"I'm going to be facing a major decision soon and I intend to consult with an astrologer before i make a move."

    Good for you, buddy!

"God, that suits me to a T!"

I checked several Astrology websites before choosing this one, and I found Cafe Astrology to be pretty darn accurate and clear. What they say about Libra is VERY true!

HA! That was so funny last year when I thought I was YOUNGER than I was!

"Astrology fascinates me and I find most people do conform to their birth signs."

    Yes, I do as well.

" I and MWM are both Scorpios and I find I am attracted to other Scorpios, both male and female, as we tend to have the same characteristics and obviously I think I'm perfect so they must be too! *joking*"

HA! See, that's what mean, some sun signs DO get along very well. Both my mother and father were the same sun signs as well.

"Seriously though I can usually pick out a person's star sign by the way they act etc."

OMG...I can too! It's something in their "energy" that reveals it to me. One time I met someone who I thought was Leo, but was actually a Cancer. And come to find out that they were on the cusp of Leo/Cancer, so even though they were a Cancer, they still had a lot of Leo characteristics.

Thanks so much for stopping by, m'dear! Have a lovely week!

"You and I share sun and moon signs--Libra and Virgo. *laughing* Probably explains a thing or two, huh?"

OMG...you're kidding??? YES! That DOES explain a thing or two because you and I have A LOT in common.

" I have no issue making decisions--I have an issue with those who don't wanna make a decision.....omg that makes me nutz when people talk something to death and don't DO. LOLOL"

It's funny Mel, because I can make a decision about something BIG like, a job change, a move in location, etc. But ask me to make a decision about whether I should get the blue shirt or the green shirt and I vacillate like I'm picking out something important like, a heart or a lung - HA!

"I don't think the things 'predict' my future, but I do think that there are forces in the heavens that contribute to my moods/thinking. (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!)

check out the ER statistics for full moons.....holy cow.....)."

I agree! And if you look at how farmers use an almanac, they know the power of the moon when growing things.

"Libra's are just energetic and zany...and we LIKE it that way! ;-)"

  14. Ron, I love this post because I am so into astrology! I'm a Gemini and fit the description to a T as well! I know that some people don't believe in astrology but I find that it has been very helpful to me when understanding other people and how they are, especially when I have conflict with someone because I can better understand where they're coming from. I had my chart done two years ago by a pro and she was so accurate. I do believe that the forces of the planets affect us very much.

Have a Happy Birthday on Wednesday, Ron X. And thank you for sharing this post because I'm going to read up on other signs as well this week. This was fun!

  15. This is quite fascinating! I am a Sagittarius... But I really don't know anything about astrology. However, I believe in so much you write about that I know if I learned more about it I would be very in to it. I've been to a fortune teller at the Edgar Casey foundation and she was so right about everything. It would be neat to see an astrologer!

OMG...I cannot believe you mentioned Edgar Cayce because I've read so many of his books (during the '80's) and loved them.

Astrology is very interesting to me because I have always found it to be quite accurate. Especially if you have a complete chart done by someone professional. I think we are greatly affected by the moon, sun, and stars.

Having a FULL chart done is really the best way to view your sun sign because it goes into much detail. I had it done once, but I will eventually have it done again. I like to do that every 10 years.

So just read your sun sign (the first one) because that will give you a basic overview.

  38. Ron, I first read this post while I was at work this morning, but wanted to what until I got home so I could thoroughly read about my sun sign. I'm a Pisces and boy, did it ring true for me.

"Pisceans often feel like they are being pulled in different directions, making it difficult to make concrete decisions."

That's me. I know you said that Libras have a hard time making a decision, but so do I. It must be that being pulled in different directions that does it.

The keywords apply to me as well. And I love being near the ocean or any body of water. Must be the fish in me!

" These individuals are not only changeable and adaptable, they have open minds."

I'm a very open minded person and adapt well to change. My father is also a Pisces and he and I get along very well. He's also a very open minded person.

I've not read too much on Astrology but find it intriguing. And I have no doubt that there is validity in it. Thank you for sharing this post. You always share interesting things here.

And Happy Birthday to you, Ron. Will be thinking of you on Wednesday!

  40. Hey Ho Robert!

" I know you said that Libras have a hard time making a decision, but so do I. It must be that being pulled in different directions that does it."

Yes, it's the same with me. I can sometimes make decisions very quickly if I don't THINK about it too much. My problem is that I tend to over analyse instead of just going with my initial gut feeling. And my gut feeling is usually always right. As I get older, I'm getting better at trusting it.

"I'm a very open minded person and adapt well to change. My father is also a Pisces and he and I get along very well. He's also a very open minded person."

True, all the Pisces I have EVER known are very open minded to things. One of my close friends in Florida was a Pisces and he too was very opened minded. Pisces are usually very in tuned and sensitive people. They are the final sign of the Zodiac, so they have acquired much knowledge through all the other signs.

People feel differently about Astrology. Some believe, others do not. But that's okay, we can't all believe in the same things.
But for me, I find a lot of truth in it.

Thanks so much for stopping by and for your birthday wishes, buddy! Have a SUPER-DUPER week!

i saw this show on tv where this fortune teller told a room of 8 or 9 people, well he read to them, the same information to everyone and they all said what he said applied to them. he did a generalization of something everyone would identify with and they all thought what he said was written just for them.

It's funny, my brother Tom is a Cancer as well and I'm not sure if he believes in Astrology either. We talk about it at times, but I don't think he's as 'into it' as I am. Now, my mother, yes! But she was a Libra like me.

"the same information to everyone and they all said what he said applied to them. he did a generalization of something everyone would identify with and they all thought what he said was written just for them.

    i don't know, ron."

Noooooooooo, that's not Astrology, that's CRAP, and I wouldn't believe it as well. Astrology is something that takes investigation and knowledge to be a REAL astrologer. It's not magic or hocus pocus, it's studying the planets and stars and how they affect us. I don't think of Astrology as fortune telling, I think of it more as getting a deeper understanding of what makes me tick and how to get along with other people.

And farmers use the Almanac (which has to do with Astrology) to find out when the best time is to plant and grow things.

"i am a cancer and i am a crab, moody and can be a snapper. that part is right. lol"

Yes, on Wednesday the 2nd. I'll be 58!

And thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing that link to finding out what your moon is because I just tried it and it's absolutely correct! In fact, I may add it to my blog post so that others can use it.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, buddy. Have a SUPER week!

X to you, Karin, and Mr. Tyler!

  48. The day after my birthday, my father would always say, "you're in your _ year." So, even when I was 29, he would tell me I was in my 30th year. Thanks, Dad.
I've always wanted to have my chart done, but they need to know your time of birth and since I don't know that, I can't do it. Bummer.
I hope you're taking your birthday off and doing something FUN!
    Happy Birthday, Ron! MUAH! XOXO

  49. "So, even when I was 29, he would tell me I was in my 30th year. Thanks, Dad."

OMG...how FUNNY, Chrissy! Your Dad sounded a lot like mine because my father would do something like that!!!

"I've always wanted to have my chart done, but they need to know your time of birth and since I don't know that, I can't do it. Bummer."

    OMG, that's right :(

Well, you know the day and year you were born, so at least you know your SUN sign. And what sign are you? I think I remember you telling me on the phone one time when we talked. Are you a Gemini? I totally forgot.

'I hope you're taking your birthday off and doing something FUN!"

No, I have to work that day. But I honestly don't mind. For me, my birthday is fun just because it's my birthday; no matter what I do.

Mucho thanks for stopping by, girl. Have a faaaaaabulous week! And again, CONGRATS on getting your project goal!!!

X to you and the gang!

  50. I am pretty sure this is where I came into your blog - on last year's birthday post! Wait, going back to check...... Yup! My first comment on your blog was your October 1st post last year!

So, I checked the moon sign site and guess what? My moon sign is also Libra! I'm a double Libra!

Happy, happy birthday to you, my Libra friend!!!

  51. "Yup! My first comment on your blog was your October 1st post last year!"

OMG...how about that, the day BEFORE my birthday! And I'm so glad you came to my blog and introduced yourself because it's been great getting to know you.

"So, I checked the moon sign site and guess what? My moon sign is also Libra! I'm a double Libra!"

WOW...you're a DOUBLE Libra???? I checked out that moon site last night and found it to be accurate because when I calculated my time, day, and place of birth, it said my moon was Aries!

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Hope you enjoy a beautiful birthday. Have a super week, my fellow-Libra!

  52. Ron, I love that you've had an entire year practicing to be 58, ha! Happy Birthday, my blogging friend, and thank you for the gift. I, too, have had my chart done; still, it's always fascinating to read about me, heehee!

I'm a Virgo sun and Pisces moon -- strong and sensitive. For some reason, I have quite a few Libra friends (must be the mental challenge they provide!) You're blessed to have parents sharing your sign -- I'm the only "Earth" in my immediate family, making for some interesting interactions. (Shoot, even my dog is a Sag!)

I hope your birthday is the start of a fabulous year for you!

  53. "Ron, I love that you've had an entire year practicing to be 58, ha!"

HAHAHAHHAHA! I know, is that HILARIOUS? I was pushing myself to get older. Actually, I love getting older.

You've had your chart done as well? Isn't it fascinating to read all the details from a complete chart?

You're a VIRGO? How cool! It's funny (perhaps it's because of my rising sign being Virgo) I too have quite a lot of Virgo friends. I'm glad I have Virgo as my rising sign because it grounds me. I do well with Earth signs.

The astrologer who did my chart said that all my planets are on one side of the chart circle. He also said that where I may have excess of one sign, the other signs balance me out.

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have a FABULOUS week!

  60. HAPPY *belated* BIRTHDAY!!!! Soooo sorry I missed it. Celebrate a little all year long, my friend. You're fabulous and deserve it! xoxo

Well, I could go on and on and on and on and ON about this topic. Oh, you know that!! Most of the astrologers I know are all pretty good at what they do. It is both a science and an art form. The science part is astronomy and how the actual birth chart is calculated based on where the planets/luminaries/asteroids, etc. are in the universe. Mathematical stuff. It's also art because of the interpretation of what a chart says about personalities, etc. Yada yada, you know all that.
Anyway.... Sagittarius Sun, Cancer Moon, Capricorn Rising here.
Wonderful topic. We'll talk more at length about it someday....

  61. Aw...thank you, Mary :) I had a great 58th birthday! And yup...I'm going to celebrate ALL year long - HA!

You explained that BEAUTIFULLY! You're spot on because Astrology IS both a science AND an art form. And it's something that takes much study and investigation to do.

"Anyway.... Sagittarius Sun, Cancer Moon, Capricorn Rising here."

Wow...you have fire, water AND earth in your chart!

I'm pretty much ALL air and fire, with my rising in earth. A lot of my planets are in Libra and Leo.

Much thanks for stopping by, my friend! And thanks for sharing your knowledge in this post!

  64. Hey Robert! Glad you came back and checked out the moon sign link that Herman told me about because I calculated mine last night and it was accurate. I already knew that my moon was in Aries and it verified it. Isn't that COOL?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Ron, I stopped back because I wanted to read everyone's comment to find out what sign they were and saw your 2nd update on calculating your moon sign, so I tried it. My moon sign is also Pisces! Thank you for sharing that link because now I know.

  67. Hola Denise!

"...but I find that it has been very helpful to me when understanding other people and how they are, especially when I have conflict with someone because I can better understand where they're coming from."

Exactly! And meeee too! I think knowing someone's sun sign helps to better get along.

"I'm a Gemini and fit the description to a T as well!"

I work with several Gemini's! Gemini's and Libras are both 'air signs' so we have a lot of similar traits - movement, change, our love of constantly learning.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl! Glad you enjoyed the website. I spent time on there checking out other signs as well. So much fun!

    Have a super week....X

  68. First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BUDDY!!! I wish you many more and please don't cheat yourself out of any more years. Life is short enough as it is!

It's great how you and your mom could respect each other's boundaries. A lot of people aren't so fortunate.

I'm going to be facing a major decision soon and I intend to consult with an astrologer before i make a move.

I checked the Lunar Gemini description, btw: Lunar "Geminis are usually pleasant, witty, and charming people. At home and with family, however, they can be moody and irritable at times. People with Moon in Gemini are always interesting people—they have a finger in every pie, are curious to a fault, and are generally well-informed. Nervousness and worry are common traits with this lunar position."

God, that suits me to a T!

Great post, buddy! Take care and once again, happy birthday!
