Yes! Elvis is alive and living in Philadelphia because I spotted him the other day and almost contacted the National Inquire, CNN, and Good Morning America to let them know.

Well...okay...he's not REALLY alive.

I saw this statue of Elvis last week in front of a memorabilia shop in Old City and couldn't resist taking this photograph. And not only because of the statue, but also because of the gentleman who is kneeing behind Elvis's legs, repairing something.

Now I have to confess that I was never a huge Elvis fan, but I did like some of his music.

Such as this song.

Jailhouse Rock.

And the choreography in this clip ROCKS because it's so '50's and natural. They don't look like classically trained dancers, they just look like they're having fun. And boy, can they MOVE!

Go, Elvis!

------------------------------------------

This week I’ve been busy investigating how to add a photo gallery to my blog, where I could feature selected photographs in a portfolio slideshow; embedding it on a separate page.

As many of you already know, I enjoy learning how to customize my blog by finding tricks and tips on the Web, then trying them myself. And it's so ironic because if anyone had asked me years ago if I was interested in website design, I would have said, "Noooo way...that's way too technical for me!"

However, after being online for so many years and blogging, I eventually decided to face my apprehension and learn how to do it by using a practice blog, and then transferring it over to this blog.

I honestly find the behind the scenes of how a website works, so interesting.

I can't by any means design a complete website, but I do have a basic understanding of web design code, so I can tweak and add things to my blog, such as this new photo gallery slider.

After MUCH research and MANY mistakes, I finally figured out how to do it here.

I had to do a bit of adjusting in the CSS coding to customize it to my liking, and I also had to figure out how to remove the sidebar on a separate page so that the gallery would fit because of its long width.

Thursday at about 2:30 AM, after adding all the photos by hand, I finally completed this project by shouting, “Halleluiah...I did it!”

So if you wish, please visit my Photo Gallery page below my blog header, where you will see the final product.

I will be adding and subtracting photographs each month, so feel free to check it out occasionally.

Thanks everyone and have a ROCKIN' weekend!

  1. Good morning Ron,
Your photo gallery is a wonderful feature. Congrats for finishing it.

I respect Elvis & his music but am not a die-hard fan. My Dad used to call him " Elviisss the Elvissss", the extra s for the hisssing sound he always made when pronouncing his Elvis' name :).

    Be well.
    Love,
    B

  2. I love it Ron! I really LOVE it!! You did an amazing job with adding the extra page!! I just found out last week that is against the "rules" to have the social media buttons on your blog match your personal blog colors! So, I created a separate page for following me on social media...they are always changing up some of the rules!! I'm not a huge Elvis fan either, but I do enjoy JailHouse Rock!! Really like that photo of YOU!! :) Happy Friday! xo Jeanne and the girlz

  3. LOL love you as Elvis Ron! I have never been a huge Elvis fan but he was THE most beautiful man wasn't he? Then I went to Graceland and Tupelo and got to know more about him, now I like him more. Well done on the photo gallery. x

  4. The slide show is great! Good work!

My parents claim they were never Elvis fans, but they go to tons of events with Elvis impersonators. I can't believe how popular he still is, but I'm sure in 20 years when that generation is gone, we will be stuck with Michael Jackson impersonators.

  5. Hey, Ron, this post has got me all shook up! I love Jailhouse Ronnie! And you're so right about dancing in those old movies: "They don't look like classically trained dancers, they just look like they're having fun."

Yes, exactly! They are just having fun, with no acrobatics or twerking, or grinding or any other kind of simulated sex acts. And they all keep their tongues in their mouths!

The Photo Gallery looks great. I really admire your determination in getting this site to look just how you want it to. I'm such a techno-boob that it something doesn't work with one click I run screaming out of the room!

Great job, and even though you never caught a rabbit, I'm proud to say that you're a friend of mine! Have a hip-shakin' weekend, buddy, and thahnk yuh very muhch!

  7. I like Elvis music but not the man. Jailhouse Rock was a firm favourite even though I couldn't do the dance. I do like your new photo gallery though, you're so clever at mastering technical detail. I spent a lot of time looking at the format of the pictures as well as the pictures themselves. Amazing, and well done.

  8. Oh Ron, that final photo of you as Elvis is rockin'! You are so funny! I've never been a big fan of Elvis either, but my parents were so I'm familiar with his music. I do like Lisa Presley's music though. Her voice is so sultry.

I love your new photo gallery and I'm so glad you added it because you have such a talent for taking photographs. It's a great way to showcase your work! I have no understanding of how a website works, so I really admire your ability to to customize your blog. Well done, Ron!

  9. Bonjour Barb!

Thank you :) It took me FOREVER to adjust everything so that the gallery would fit on the page. Also, the gallery originally came with a thumbnail presentation on the right side, which I removed so that all you would see were the photographs.

" My Dad used to call him " Elviisss the Elvissss", the extra s for the hisssing sound he always made when pronouncing his Elvis' name :)."

HA! HILARIOUS! And that's so true, he did use a lot of s's when he said his name!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Barb. Have a super weekend!

  10. Helloooooooo Jeanne!

Thank you :) It was a great learning experience. That's one of the things I really like about Blogger, they give you total freedom to do what we want with our templates. I've learned SO MUCH about website customizing from having my blog here.

" I just found out last week that is against the "rules" to have the social media buttons on your blog match your personal blog colors! So, I created a separate page for following me on social media...they are always changing up some of the rules!!"

WOW, I had no idea about that RULE?! And you're right, they are ALWAYS changing something about the protocol of blog design. I really don't use many social media's. I have my photos and videos on Flickr and You Tube, but I use them only to host them, I don't socialize on them. Pinterest I just started, but again, I really don't socialize on it because I don't have the time.

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have a FAB weekend!

"we will be stuck with Michael Jackson impersonators."

HA! True! But oh...I LOVED Micheal Jackson. Such a talented man he was.

  13. I was never a huge fan of Elvis (Mo was), but I liked his early stuff. I wasn't keen on the direction he went with his music. That scene from Jailhouse Rock is a classic. Love Ron Presley ;)

I used to design web sites, back in my working days, but I don't have the patience to do any more than tweak my blog template a bit now. With all the blog templates out there, is an actual web site needed any more, for the average person? I don't think so.

HA! Thank you :) I added that photo last minute, right before I published this post last night. I found it on Face In Hole and couldn't resist.

"They are just having fun, with no acrobatics or twerking, or grinding or any other kind of simulated sex acts. And they all keep their tongues in their mouths!"

  16. Ron, I am sooo impressed with your new Photo Gallery! As a Web designer, I know those things can be tricky to set up correctly, so I commend you for even trying!

And you did a GREAT job! Looking at your shots, I feel like I'm right there, touring Philly with you -- how fun is that?!

A dumb question, though -- how did the sculptor of that Elvis statue expect him to sing into a microphone that's so far away from his mouth??

Thank you :) Glad you enjoyed the photo gallery. I first tried using several other slideshow presentations (like Flickr) but you can't edit the photographs you want to use because the slideshow only allows you to show ALL your photos. I also tried another one (Cincopa) but they have a bandwidth limit usage.

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have a LOVELY weekend!

  19. Hey there Babs!

"I was never a huge fan of Elvis (Mo was), but I liked his early stuff. I wasn't keen on the direction he went with his music."

The main thing I remember about Elvis were his movies in the '50's. All those 'beach blanket bingo" type movie such as, "Clambake." I like certain songs of his, but am not too familiar with all his music.

"I used to design web sites, back in my working days, but I don't have the patience to do any more than tweak my blog template a bit now."

WOW...I don't I think realized you used to design websites. But I'm not surprised because you are SO talented with your photos and clever graphics.

"With all the blog templates out there, is an actual web site needed any more, for the average person? I don't think so."

OMG....I agree! There are so many more things you can do with a blog than just website. I had a website that I partially designed many years ago, but once I started blogging I deleted it because I found blogging much more productive. And I what I'm noticing lately is that many people who have a company website ALSO have a blog within the website.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a super-duper weekend!

  21. LOL, LOVE the last photo most of all. Elvis would be so proud. Hunka, hunka...

Congrats on figuring out the photo gallery stuff. It's such a win when I work out some techie thing that I thought was beyond my scope. Right now, it's the mystery of .mobi files I'm trying to get a handle on. I'm "this close" to the last puzzle piece, re: sharing these, but can't figure that part out. No help online either, which is kind of strange. If you've got any knowledge of mobi files Ron, let me know!

Yes, isn't it? It's such a great feeling of knowing you accomplished it because at first it seems impossible and beyond your scope. However, I love a challenge and learning the basics of website coding has helped me so much. I've often thought of taking a class on web design, just for the enjoyment.

" No help online either, which is kind of strange. If you've got any knowledge of mobi files Ron, let me know!"

  27. As you know, I'm a sucker for photo galleries and slide shows. They just add that extra "oomph" to your posts! Speaking of Elvis, I became a huge fan the day he died. Before that, I'd never heard of the guy! But I was 8 years old, so hopefully I'm forgiven. The first record I ever bought was an Elvis record - "C'mon, Everybody." Long live The King, even if it's only in statue form!

  28. Hey there Mark!

"As you know, I'm a sucker for photo galleries and slide shows. They just add that extra "oomph" to your posts!"

I agree! They add an extra "oooph" to your posts or blog, which is why I wanted to add a separate page with just a photo gallery.

"Speaking of Elvis, I became a huge fan the day he died. Before that, I'd never heard of the guy! But I was 8 years old, so hopefully I'm forgiven."

Yes, isn't it funny how that is? I became more of a fan of certain certain recording artists AND actors after they died because I was either too young at the time or didn't find them interesting when they were first popular.

" Long live The King, even if it's only in statue form!"

The girl has managed to educate me(getting my money's worth outta that college education! LOL) and, in order not to look utterly dumb, I've self taught myself a few things. But I'm still with the design I started with....7624 posts later. ROFL.

But I adore your bravery and the lengths you go to fluff pillows and rearrange furniture so us folks feel comfy and at home. I'd be plopping on the couch and making myself comfy, regardless...but it's always a treat to listen to the video/snippet you pick for us, yaknow? You just keep doing whatcha do cuz you wanna and you can. Those touches end up makimg it a cozy place for us all.

You see things that I wouldn't even notice, like the photograph of the guy painting the sign. I wouldn't even think to take a picture.

I think of my blog as my home and how I want it to be a place that people can come and feel comfortable, have fun, learn things, and just enjoy themselves. For me, my blog is an extension of who I am and my many interests.

I had a BLAST trying to figure out HOW to do this. And you know me, I LOVE investigating and researching website projects. In the past 6 years, I've learned so much. That's what I really love about having my blog on Blogger because they give you the freedom to do what you want with your template and LEARN things.

" I love how clean and simple the presentation and framing of the gallery is yet, how clever they change from image to image."

Isn't that COOL how it shifts from image to image? I actually had nothing to do with that because that's the way it was already designed. The only thing I DID change was removed the thumbnails on the right side of the slider because I felt like it was too much and took away from the larger photos. It seem too cluttered.

"What a great statue of Elvis! It really does look like him."

Yes, it DOES look like him, doesn't it? Especially the hair and sideburns - and the way his legs are positioned.

  52. Aw...thank you, Jean, glad you enjoyed. With this slideshow, I'll be able to change the photo each month; adding different one.

    "Oh, and the Chanel store!"

I took that photograph while I was in NYC a few years ago. I used to work for Chanel, so I wanted to include it in this slideshow.

Thanks again for stopping by and for your sweet words!

    Happy Monday!

  53. I actually know an Elvis impersonator and it's soooo much fun to see him interact with the crowds. I do like (the real) Elvis' music and think the impact he made on rock and roll during that era is astounding. It's just so sad he had to succumb to the drugs and alcohol that contributed towards his death.

And kudos to YOU for adding such a great slide show page! It looks faaaabulous!! :-) Coding doesn't really set well with me, but I can do it if I put my mind to it. I prefer the plug and play apps.

OMG...how faaaaaabulous! I've seen Elvis impersonators in Vegas, but never KNEW one!

" It's just so sad he had to succumb to the drugs and alcohol that contributed towards his death."

Yes, sad indeed. He looked so much older than he was towards the end because of all the drug and alcohol abuse. It was the same with Judy Garland.

And thank you :) It was challenging but enjoyable figuring out how to add the photo gallery.

You're right. It's not as difficult as it seems. I mean if I can do it, anyone can.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Lisa! Hope you had a great weekend. Happy Monday!

  58. Hey there Jen!

    Thank you :)

It was so interesting trying to figure out HOW to do this. I first tried several different types of slideshows, but by using a website 'slider' it gave me more freedom in selecting the photos I wanted to use. This way I change them up each month.

Much thanks for stopping by, girl. Hope you're enjoying this fall!

    Have a faaaaaabulous week!

  59. Oh, dear God, I'm this far behind again...AND you've added more to your blog?!?
Okay, the Elvis statue reminds me of a friend whose hubby actually owned one sort of like that and had it inside her small hair salon. Interesting as it was, it just didn't fit in a tiny space so they did find it a new home.
I only have one Elvis song on my iPod currently... Bossa Nova Baby. Quite a catchy tune.

Love the photo page! You've really taught yourself a lot. I'm so jealous, my blog is so lacking! *sigh*

p.s. What the hell is my password??!! .... I continually post as a guest because I don't remember it.

  60. Hey there Mary! No problem, just stop by whenever you feel like it. And I can't thank you enough for stopping by and reading and commenting on my posts. You're sweetheart!

OMG...he had a statue of Elvis in a hair salon?!?! Well, I guess in a way it fit because of Elvis's 50's hairstyle!

"Love the photo page! You've really taught yourself a lot."

Aw...thank you :) It took a while to figure out HOW to get the slider onto a separate page, but I finally figured it out. I have learned so much about web design through blogging - especially being on Blogger because they allow us to do most anything with our blogs. I love the freedom that Blogger allows.
