Post updates by email:

I have about 6 readers who are still with me since I started this blog back in 2007. And as I’m sure those readers will agree, this blog has changed since then – and changed a lot.

When I first started Vent, it was primarily a place where I could vent about things that annoyed me in a humorous way. I actually started this personal blog using an anonymous name (Voice Box). But then after about six months, I decided to drop it and use my real name because I wanted to reveal more of myself. Also, I had several readers who graciously came over to this blog from another blog I used to write on Wordpress, so they already knew my name.

After I started using my real name, I began sharing more personal things. Things like my childhood, my family, my spiritual beliefs, and the different careers I’ve had. I also started sharing more introspective thoughts instead of just humor.

This blog has morphed over the past 6 ½ years.

I'm a believer that a blog will move you where you need to go with it, if you just listen to the promptings. A blog doesn't stand still, it moves forward.

At one point, I had three blogs going at the same time; all on different topics.

I had one blog that focused on sharing product reviews, and then another one where I shared my love of photography – plus this one.

However, I was exhausted trying to post and respond to comments on three blogs, so I took a chance by announcing to my readers that I had decided to combine all three blogs into one, and that they were free to read and comment on my posts, according to what they might be interested in.

And I can’t tell you how happy I am that I did that because it enabled me to focus all my energy into one blog; offering a variety of topics.

And I’m also very grateful to my readers at that time, because they were open and receptive to the change.

One thing that blogging has taught me is that you can’t be afraid to make changes; risking that you might upset people and lose them as readers. Because really, you’re going to lose some readers the longer you blog anyway, so you might as well stay true to what you believe is a good change, and just do it.

Blogging is an odd thing because it’s obvious that you have readers and receive great joy from having them there, so you have to be considerate of their presence on your blog because it’s a community. Yet, the bottom line is that the primary reason someone blogs is to fulfill a passion in them to share what they do, so you have to go where your passion takes you or you wouldn’t have a blog.

Over the past couple of weeks, I had a feeling that I wanted to change the title of this blog.

I didn't feel that the previous title suited me anymore. This blog is no longer about me just venting, it’s a place where I’m sharing many different topics. And I know that will continue to happen as I experiment and grow with blogging.

I have learned so much through this media.

And yes, I realize it’s only a blog title, but this blog is my own personal space in cyberland, therefore the title represents me, so it should reflect me.

I decided to change the title to Being Ron, with the tagline…all in one.

Because that’s really what this blog is – me, all in one.

The title suddenly came to me one day without ever having to think about it, so I knew it was meant to be.

I didn't change my URL address because that would involve too many technical things. Besides, the URL never matched Vent either. I just changed the title of this blog, so you won’t have to alter anything about my feed and getting updates. The only thing you might want to change is my blog name if I’m on your blog roll.

And yes, I will still be venting on this blog about things that annoy me, so don’t worry – HA!

Thanks everyone for sharing this blogging journey with me. I look forward to the future.

And welcome to my new blog title: Being Ron.

Have a marvi Monday!
X

  2. Oh I love the new title Ron! I've been reading your blogs from (virtually) the beginning I think and have enjoyed all the changes you have made. BTW I know you couldn't see anything on my last post about Canada, that was because I mistakenly published it before I had actually written anything -DOH! Anyway, I have written the post now and published again. ;)

  3. Soooo glad I found you through Jimmy (don't you miss him?) It's good to update and evolve. I'm sure I'm not your only reader who is happy to get up on Monday and Friday mornings just to read your blog! XO

  4. Funny you did a change. LOL. ME too! It's all good. I gave myself time and I think I might live. LOL. Change is good. Your change and mine.
I've had the privilege of being around this place for a while. It's been an honour, actually. There's been laughter, amazement, reflection, stretching and growing,.. and tears. But it's been phenomenal. And it's seemingly rare that we last this long in cyberspace. Leastwise it feels that way with the comings and goings of people through this medium. So it's good for me to still have the "all in one" version. LOL. Funny, I thought we always had that...ahhh, maybe you're just claiming it for yourself now....that'd be a good thing!
    *hugs*

  5. Congratulations, Ron, I'm opening a bottle of cyber-Champagne in your honor!

I think "Being Ron" is an excellent name for your blog. It tells everyone that it's about the many facets of you. It takes a lot of courage to change such a personal project and I commend you for that.

Great move, buddy! I'm looking forward to more installments of "Being Ron" All in one and one for all!

    Take care!

  7. Ron, I love the title change, it's perfect! I also love your new blog header. I enjoy that you share different topics on this blog because it makes it interesting. I never know what you're going to share each post so it's always a surprise. And even though I don't have a blog myself, I'm happy to be a part of your community, you have such wonderful readers.

Congratulations! I look forward to more of what you share.

Have a wonderful week, Ron x

  9. Helloooooooooo Pearl!

Yes, you and I have blogging together now since WAAAAAAAAAAY back when I was still posting on my Wordpress blog. OMG....we've known each other now for over 7 years and it's a been a delight! Thank you for coming over here when I first started this blog and being such a loyal friend. I really appreciate that.

" BTW I know you couldn't see anything on my last post about Canada, that was because I mistakenly published it before I had actually written anything -DOH! Anyway, I have written the post now and published again. ;)"

Oh okay, I was wondering what happened. I thought perhaps you had problems uploading your photos and that the post never showed. I will be sure to stop by today and read your post. Can't wait!

Have a lovely week, m'dear! And thank again for being here!

  10. Hiya Mel!

"Funny you did a change. LOL. ME too! It's all good."

HAHAHAHAHHAAHHA! I know, because when I saw that you made a template change last week, I had already decided to make this change with my blog and thought, "How funny that the two of us made changes at the same time!!!"

And thank you, dear lady, for your sweet and supportive words. And also thank you for sticking around this long, not only here but also on your own blog, where I receive much inspiration and laughter!

" And it's seemingly rare that we last this long in cyberspace. Leastwise it feels that way with the comings and goings of people through this medium."

How true that is! Some people seem to come and go so quickly in this medium. However for me, it's my favorite means of communicating online. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

" So it's good for me to still have the "all in one" version. LOL. Funny, I thought we always had that...ahhh, maybe you're just claiming it for yourself now....that'd be a good thing!"

It's funny because I always thought that this blog was "all in one", however it's been just recently that I wanted to change the title to match the thought. And you're right...claim it.

Much thanks for stopping by and being here from 2007. I really appreciate that, dear lady. THANK YOU!

  11. What a wonderful evolution! I love your new title, and I love your reasoning behind the change.

I guess I didn't realize you'd been blogging since 2007 -- of course, I came late to your party, ha! You know, your experience is very similar to mine. I, too, started blogging anonymously, then morphed into several blogs on different topics, then found that too much to handle and now concentrate on just the one.

You're right in that readers come and readers go. As a writer, we're grateful for each and every presence -- new or not -- and we're thankful for the chance to engage others in community.

Great move to start 2014, my friend!

  15. Hey there Debbie!

Thank you so much, and I'm glad you like the title change.

Yes, I've had this blog since September 2007. And sometimes I think, "OMG...has it been that long?" because it's seems like yesterday!

"You know, your experience is very similar to mine. I, too, started blogging anonymously, then morphed into several blogs on different topics, then found that too much to handle and now concentrate on just the one."

You too?!?!?! Having several different blogs is exhausting, isn't it? And I got to a point where I just couldn't do it anymore. I would rather share all my interests in one place, and then allow my readers to pick and choose what they wish to read and comment on.

"You're right in that readers come and readers go. As a writer, we're grateful for each and every presence -- new or not -- and we're thankful for the chance to engage others in community."

    Amen!

Much thanks for being here, Debbie! I'm so glad you and I met through Suzi's blog, it's been a pleasure getting to know you!

  16. Whatever you do is fine by me, Ron, I've always liked whatever you do with your blog. Every change has reflected you, your thoughts and ideas. In other words, they've all been perfect. I know what you mean about running more than one blog, I did four at one time (phew!) but quickly changed to one. I shall now go and change Vent to Being Ron.... haha to avoid the computer getting confused. Out of all the 'Being Ron, all in one' pictures I like the top left the best. That has real character. Have a great week, my friend xx

  17. Hellooooooo Valerie!

Thank you so much for your kind and supportive words. Thank you :)

" I know what you mean about running more than one blog, I did four at one time (phew!) but quickly changed to one."

WOW...you had FOUR at one time?!? And thought three was a lot. That's why I decided to combine my blogs into one. It was just too much having to post on three on a regular schedule and keeping up. Also, I think it's hard for your readers to go from blog to blog and read and comment. Much simpler on one.

" I shall now go and change Vent to Being Ron.... haha to avoid the computer getting confused."

Thank you. I update my new title on Feedburner, so that should be okay. However, I know you also use Blogger's feed on your sidebar, so I don't know how that works.

"Out of all the 'Being Ron, all in one' pictures I like the top left the best. That has real character."

Thanks. I took that shot of myself, while pointing the camera and shooting - HA!

  19. There, that's better....BAD Disqus... wouldn't let me comment a little while ago, just kept spinning.

Anyhoo...I like the new name Ron. But I liked the old name too. Just keep those posts coming. Always something interesting, entertaining or funny to enjoy at your blog, whatever you call it.

I've had several blogs over the years. I've also stopped blogging for months at a time (lost so many readers then. ;-( ) but I always missed it and I always seem to come back for more.

I also miss the interaction with people all over the world. People I would have never met, except via the blogs. Isn't the Internet grand!!!

    Have a wonderful week. ;-)

How's your weather doing? No boots or gloves required here in BC, it's pretty warm out there.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hello there Geraldine!

Yes...bad Disqus! It just went through a maintenance update, which made commenting impossible. They're pretty good though, about fixing things quickly.

And thank you, glad you like the new name. I liked the old one too, however, I felt a change coming on because it no longer matched where I'm at on this blogging journey. And yes, I will still be posting what I do, but also adding some other things as well. I've added a new category to my posts and also a new page below my header, where my readers can shop at my two stores.

"I also miss the interaction with people all over the world. People I would have never met, except via the blogs. Isn't the Internet grand!!!"

AMEN! This medium of online communicating is one of the best things I've ever done. Not only for what it's teaching me, but more so for all the awesome folks I've met. And thank you for being one of them.

Have a great week, my friend. And thank you for stopping by!

P.S. It's pretty cold here, but sunny. You're having the weather that we had last week - warm. Isn't this weather strange?

  21. I like the new name, Ron. And I can see how having three separate blogs can be exhausting. You're entirely right about the need for a blog to change with the person who owns it. Mine has undergone several changes over the years but the name has never changed. I guess that's because though my themes have evolved, I haven't swayed too far from my original idea. Have a Happy Monday!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yep! For me the new name is a better fit. Your blog doesn't feel like you are venting, it is more like your "take" on things. It's like the subject has a "Ron touch." I like this ever so much more than sterile descriptions and ideas about things. If I want a journalistic view, I'll read a newspaper.

  23. Hey there Nicole! And thank you!

And yes, having multiply blogs (for me anyway) was exhausting. So I decided to roll them all into one.

"You're entirely right about the need for a blog to change with the person who owns it."

The thing about blogging is that it continues to move forward, so it changes as the author moves forward with various interests (especially with a diversified personal blog). And for me, my old blog title just didn't reflect that anymore.

"Mine has undergone several changes over the years but the name has never changed. I guess that's because though my themes have evolved, I haven't swayed too far from my original idea."

Exactly! And with certain bloggers, the original idea (and name) is still there.

Much thanks for stopping by and for your support. Muchly appreciated! Have a SUPER week!

  24. I, for one, like it. I think it better sums up who you are and what you are writing about here. Good choice!

"I'm a believer that a blog will move you where you need to go with it, if you just listen to the promptings."

Exactly! Mine has changed focus, though subtly, several times since I started it up. For instance, I never imagined I'd meet and marry Tara. It certainly wasn't my intention to write about relationships when I started it up, but I couldn't just ignore such a huge event in my life, either.

Carry on! Looking to reading about the many more faces of Ron!

  25. Thank you, David, and I agree...the new name is a better fit. And even my brother Tom said that.

    " If I want a journalistic view, I'll read a newspaper."

HA! Thank you...and I TOTALLY agree with you buddy, if I want a journalistic view, I'll read the newspaper.

Much thanks for your kindness and support. It's been a pleasure getting to know you these past months. And I look forward to blogging with you this year!

  27. Hi Ron! I was anticipating this post, and was so happy when I saw it in my Bloglovin' feed this morning! I love the new & improved name!

Great advice about blogging. You are so right that we need to blog about what makes us happy, not necessarily what makes our readers happy. I was messing around on Blogger yesterday (not my blogging format - I just have a profile there so I can comment on Blogger blogs) and noticed they have a "reader". So many of those blogs in my reader were kaput. Hadn't been updated in years. Bloggers & readers come and go, so stay true to yourself.

Also, you have moved up from the bottom of my blogroll (Vent) to the TOP (Being Ron). Smart move! :-)
    Have a great Monday!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thank you, Mark :)

Like I shared, the title suddenly came to me one day, so I knew was meant to be.

"Mine has changed focus, though subtly, several times since I started it up. For instance, I never imagined I'd meet and marry Tara. It certainly wasn't my intention to write about relationships when I started it up, but I couldn't just ignore such a huge event in my life, either."

Exactly, Mark! And that's the thing with having a personal blog because it's not really anything specific that we post about, but rather about LIFE. And life changes, therefore, so does our blog.

Much thanks for stopping by and for your support these past years.

    Have a faaaaaaabulous week, buddy!

  29. Hellooooooo Jean!

Yes, I was thinking of you when I was getting ready to post this last night and making all the changes on my blog. OMG...I had to change a lot of stuff; not only my blog but also the different blog directories I'm listed with.

"You are so right that we need to blog about what makes us happy, not necessarily what makes our readers happy."

And I mention that because it's something very important I've learned these past 6 1/2 years. A blogger has to stay true to what they blog about, or they wouldn't have a blog. Yes, you will inevitably lose some readers along the way, but that's going to happen regardless of what you post about.

And yes, I agree...some bloggers come and go so quickly in blogland.

"Also, you have moved up from the bottom of my blogroll (Vent) to the TOP (Being Ron). Smart move! :-)"

HAHAHHAHAHA! OMG...I didn't even think of that! But that's right...B comes before V.

  45. I like it Ron. Seems like a very fitting title to me.

I can't imagine trying to keep up with three blogs. Much better that you rolled them into one.

You're so right about bloggers coming and going. It's just a natural process I suppose. Out of the twenty or so bloggers that I followed when I was writing, only four or so are still going.

Be true to yourself and write was inspires you. Many will read/follow, others will not and both are ok.

  46. Helloooooooooo Jeff!!!!

Thank you, buddy. I thought it seemed fitting as well. I loved having Vent for so many years, but it was time for a change.

"I can't imagine trying to keep up with three blogs. Much better that you rolled them into one."

OY VEY...it was so hard to try and keep up with them.

"It's just a natural process I suppose. Out of the twenty or so bloggers that I followed when I was writing, only four or so are still going."

Yes, you're right, it is a natural process. And I can understand why some bloggers stop blogging after a while, because it does take a lot of time.

"Be true to yourself and write was inspires you. Many will read/follow, others will not and both are ok."

  47. Congrats on the name change! I think "Being Ron" is a solid title. Kinda reminds me of television show titles from the 70's for some reason. Go figure...

And to think that you used to keep up three blogs at once. I have trouble with just the one, but then again as you said, it's a passion. Blogging somehow fills a void that I'd have trouble filling otherwise. In fact, I'd feel like half a person without it.

Anyway, way to go with the title change! I'll update my blogroll like title to your site right now :-)

I am so glad I decided to roll those three blogs into one because even for me, someone who has a lot of free time, it was a challenge.

"Blogging somehow fills a void that I'd have trouble filling otherwise. In fact, I'd feel like half a person without it."

  63. Ron, I really like the title change, Being Ron! You know, I don't read a lot of blogs but yours is one I look forward to because you share it all. You make me laugh, you make me think, and I learn things from you. I would have never purchased a camera if you hadn't inspired me to do so.

I look forward to what you share on your blog this year.

    Yeehaw, dude!

  65. Three blogs at once?! I can't keep up with one! Fantastical idea and I love the name. Isn't it funny how we personify our blogs and they, in turn, come alive for us? They become more than just an outlet for thoughts...they become an extension of our personality. All the best in this new direction! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hey Lisa!

Yup...can you believe that? Thee at once. I am so glad I merged them one because it's so much easier posting on a single blog.

Thank you, glad you like the name :)

" Isn't it funny how we personify our blogs and they, in turn, come alive for us? They become more than just an outlet for thoughts...they become an extension of our personality."

Couldn't have said it any better myself. It's true...they become an extension of our personality. And also, our growth.

Much thanks for stopping by, my friend. Hope you're having a super week!

  68. Love, love the title! It really is perfect. I've been with you a while now and I've seen your blog evolve. You've inspired me to share some personal things that I may not have otherwise. You couldn't have said it better that people will come and go, like or dislike what you have to say, but you have to stay true to your own voice.
Off to go change your title in my blog roll now! ;-)

  69. " are you buried under all the snow. you know i keep looking out the window saying "words" in my head."

HAHAHAHAHAHA! OMG Val...I was thinking of you today, while watching the news reports on the SNOW. Yes, we are buried under it and it's STILL snowing. I think it will continue until tomorrow morning. Of course, you know me....I was OUTSIDE taking PICTURES of it.

"i love your blog no matter what you call it."

Aw...thanks, girl! And thank you for your continued support.

Have a great week! Stay safe too!

  70. Hey there Chrissy!

Thank you :) Glad you like the new title. It was something I felt the calling to do.

"people will come and go, like or dislike what you have to say, but you have to stay true to your own voice."

    You're so right

Thanks so much for your kind words and continued support these many years. I really appreciate that.

And I am soooooo glad you and I met through blogging. Can you believe it's been FIVE years already?!?

  73. I tried having a second, mostly secret blog for a while but found even that too much. And my policy is that I will only read one blog by any one person. I like blogs that have variety and also are personal - they're the best!

I like the new blog name, and understand needing to morph. Mine has been through a few including Another Tangential Thinker and A Little Off Kilter before becoming Blogging Incognito. But whatever you call it, I'd still be here reading!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I know I keep saying this but, you and I are SUCH Libras because so many of the things you say, and your likes and dislikes are so similar to mine - HA!

" Mine has been through a few including Another Tangential Thinker and A Little Off Kilter before becoming Blogging Incognito."

Hey, thanks for sharing that because I had no idea the blog you have presently, had different names.

Thanks so much for stopping by and for your support, girl. So glad we met!

Hope you're having a super week!

  75. I think you speak for a lot of us who have been blogging for a while. "Don't be afraid to make changes...stay true to what you believe is a good change, and just do it."

To many of us who have been struggling to maintain our blogs lately, it was very healing to read your words. Of course, nothing stays the same. People change. So, of course, a blog would change, too.

Since I finished writing the memoir and have been sending out queries to agents, I've been concerned with keeping my writing polished on my blog. I've been putting pressure on myself when I write, and I stopped having fun blogging. I've got to start having fun again. You reminded me of that. Thank you!

I love your new incarnation. It's perfect!

  76. Thank you. It's been a pleasure getting to know you, too, Ron. : )

  77. "I'm a believer that a blog will move you where you need to go with it, if you just listen to the promptings. A blog doesn't stand still, it moves forward." I've found this to be so true. When I first started, I was writing a lot of political posts, and now I don't have the same interest I once had. Now I've started getting more into fiction, for example. Like you, I hope readers will continue their time at my blog well-spent, but you're absolutely correct when you say we have to be true to ourselves. I love the changes you've made, Ron.

  78. Hellooooooooo Jayne!

"When I first started, I was writing a lot of political posts, and now I don't have the same interest I once had. Now I've started getting more into fiction, for example."

Exactly! To me a blog (especially a personal blog) represents where we're at during the various stages of our life, so as we grow, move and expand...so will our blog. A blog is an ongoing evolution.

"Like you, I hope readers will continue their time at my blog well-spent, but you're absolutely correct when you say we have to be true to ourselves."

    Ditto, my friend!

Much thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts and insight on this post.

  79. Hello there Lauren!

I love what you shared here...

"Of course, nothing stays the same. People change. So, of course, a blog would change, too."

You're exactly right! A blog reflects our own life and growth. So as we grow, so will our blog. I think that's what blogging has taught me the most, life does not stand still. It moves forward.

" I've been concerned with keeping my writing polished on my blog. I've been putting pressure on myself when I write, and I stopped having fun blogging. I've got to start having fun again."

Yes, you said something VERY wise about blogging....having FUN! And sometimes I have to remind myself of that too and not be overly concerned about everything being polished.

Thank you so much for stopping by and adding your thoughts and insight to this post. And it's been a pleasure getting to know you, Lauren. You're a very cool lady!

Have a great rest of your week.....X
