I don't know about you, but I ADORE getting gift cards! Many people feel as though they can be kind of cold and unthoughtful, however, I would much rather receive gift cards as gifts because then I can purchase whatever I want. To me, they are the ideal practical gift.

Anyway...

Two months ago, one of the companies I work for gave their employees reward points for achieving their goals. And I honestly didn't realize how many points I had accumulated over the past few years, which totaled $250.00. They sent us a list of various gift cards so that we could use the points as money to purchase them. I chose two $50.00 gift cards from Barnes & Noble, two $50.00 gift cards from Best Buy, and one $50.00 gift card from Options Card, which you see in the photograph above.

I already used one of the Barnes and Noble gift cards and am waiting to use the two from Best Buy until I really need something electronic. And the one from Options Card, I just recently used to purchase some black dress shirts for work. I went online and searched each stores' website to see if they had what I was looking for. Eventually, I found an AMAZING sale at Old Navy on black dress shirts for only $12.99 each!

Yet, I was apprehensive about purchasing clothes online without trying them on because of my slight build and having to buy a lot of my clothes in the young men's department because I'm too small for most adult men's clothing. But then I thought, "What the hell, for only $12.99 and not actually having to fork out the money from my own pocket, why not?" So, do you know what I did? I bought THREE of the same shirt in size small.

And about six days ago, they arrived....

Believe it or not I kept forgetting that I had it, so I didn't open the package until DAYS later. But when I finally opened it and saw what the shirt looked like, I was extremely happy that I had made the purchase. Not only did I immediately love the soft cotton material, but it fit perfectly!

And what I especially like about this shirt is that it can be worn dressy or casual.

Here, take a look...

Since I sometimes wear a tie at work, I wanted to show you what the shirt looks like with some of my ties...

Here is the shirt with an open collar under a black sport coat and also with a black turtleneck...

I decided to have a little fun with these next few photographs by creating faux magazine prints, almost like an ad for Old Navy. I played around with some photo editing software to create more of a 'magazine' look. And these modeling poses are what you typically see in many men's fashion magazines.

So, here I am striking a few poses.

Ronaldo....a faux supermodel for Old Navy.

*Note: If anyone is looking for a 58-year old, 5'7" munchkin-size runway or print model, please contact me. I'll pay you $100.00 an hour to hire me.

Have a SUPERmodel weekend everyone!

  3. Great purchase, Ron, and what a fabulous way to spend the vouchers. If ever you need a career change you'd do great in the advertising world. How DO you manage to take such good pictures of yourself? I've tried it and scrapped every one with a major Grrrrr sound. The shirt is great and I just love those ties.

Had a heavy WI day yesteryear and thought I was late reading your blog. Seems I was wrong. Anyway, have a marv weekend even if it is busy x

  4. Haha this is such a fun blog post! I need to do a posing blog! Too fun! As for gift cards I think I am in the minority here but I HATE getting them. Not because they are cold but because I literally ALWAYS lose them and I never get to use them! It is absolutely frustrating!

  5. What a fun post! You are such a handsome man, I would hire you in a second!

I can't really say that I like getting gift cards. I always seem to forget I have them. I do give them, but only when I know exactly what stores my recipients like. Even on my old blog when I did a giveaway, I always gave my readers a choice.

Love the pictures, Ron! The black shirt becomes you!

  6. Ron, I love the shirt and this post! "If anyone is looking for a 58-year old, 5'7" munchkin-size runway or print model, please contact me. I'll pay you $100.00 an hour to hire me." You are so funny!

The shirt looks great with your ties. And I love your faux Old Navy pictures. What a handsome man!

I adore receiving gift cards too. My girlfriends know that if they ever want to get me a birthday or Christmas present to give me gift cards from my favorite stores so that I can purchase whatever I want. And sometimes they'll give me the same card from the same store so that I can use them all together and not have to pay the difference.

Have a wonderful weekend Ronaldo x

  7. All right, the great Ronaldo is coming down the runway...or is it the Ronway?!? Great post, Ron. Those shirts look fabulous on you and I'm so glad they fit perfectly.

Like you, I'm not the tallest guy in the room (thought I am the sexiest!), so I am reluctant to buy shirts online. But this really worked out so well.

Gifts cards are an excellent gift for adults--they save all the grief of bringing stuff back or throwing stuff you don't like into the back of the closet, never to be seen again.

Nice job, buddy, now take those glasses out of your mouth and strut your stuff this weekend! See ya!

And I feel you because I'm short too and have the hardest time with finding pants. They need to open a store for shorter guys like the one's they have for taller guys. Short guys unite!

I really like your selection in ties. Particularly the black and white one. Cool!

Gift cards are the best gift but I'm always afraid I'm going to lose them, so I place them in a safe place but then forget where I put them.

    Great post, Ronaldo!

  9. Ronaldo the supermodel, I'm reading this post at work and Lol! You are one funny man! I love the faux Old Navy print ads and that last caption.

Not only do I like getting gifts cards, but I also like giving them and will often come out and ask someone where they like to shop so that I can get them a card where I know they will make good use of it. You're right, they are so practical.

I like the shape of your beard how groomed you keep. I've always wanted to try growing a beard but I have areas on my face where it doesn't grow in as even so I get patches.

    Great purchase on the shirts!

  10. If there is a market for such a model as you describe - honey, you are a contenda'. You are a handsome man...

  11. I agree with you on receiving gift cards. Many people find them impersonal, but because they let you buy ANYTHING YOU WANT, I am always happy to receive them. Hell, I'd wallpaper my house in gift cards if Tara would let me!

And if I had a house.

    Details, details...

    Have a great weekend, Ronaldo.

  12. Wow, you are quite the poseur aren't you?
It's a nice shirt, like it.
We get things called "E-stars" at work that can be spent on an online catalogue.
So far I have accumulated a microwave, two stereos, a garden trimmer, cooking utensils, feather pillows, a DVD player and......a galvanised steel pig-shaped watering can!

  13. Ron, once again, you crack me up! Super fun post, my dear!

I happen to LOVE your black shirt -- and might I add, it appears to fit perfectly, despite your not trying it on before buying??

Love how versatile it is, too! Dress it up or down, use it as a background to add colorful ties and accessories -- what's not to love?!

You amassed quite a fortune in rewards -- and I can tell you're going to enjoy spending the gift cards. Sometimes I'm more in the mood for the cash, but gift cards are always appreciated. When I bought my new phone, the company gave me a Visa rewards card to spend as I wanted -- and that was fabulous! (I'm pretty sure I'd have already eaten up that Best Buy reward of yours, though, ha!!)

    Happy Weekend, dear!!

  14. Hahaha........I like that contemplative, eat your glasses look! They really are good photos of you ya know. And Old Navy oughta hire you. Just sayin'. Don't ya just love a good bargain.....and one you were prepared to be a wash, even! Such a great end result for you--I'm glad. I know the struggle in hoping to get something to fit and the 'SCORE!!!' when it actually happens. It's cool it happened at that price.
Ummmm......I'm going with the black and white tie, though I have to admit the gold one was close to winning.

Enjoy the weekend, sir. I'm hoping all the rain for the weekend is over and that I'll have a good couple of days to watch butterflies and hummers! (I know.......dream on, huh.....LOL)

"Like you, I'm not the tallest guy in the room (thought I am the sexiest!), so I am reluctant to buy shirts online. But this really worked out so well."

Yes, you most definitely have sexiest over me, hands down!

"Gifts cards are an excellent gift for adults--they save all the grief of bringing stuff back or throwing stuff you don't like into the back of the closet, never to be seen again."

  17. Hola Denise!

Thank you :) I had so much fun putting this post together. And I LOVE this new shirt because as I shared, it can be worn dressy or casual and the material is soft and comfortable.

" And sometimes they'll give me the same card from the same store so that I can use them all together and not have to pay the difference."

Yes, don't you LOVE that? That's why I got two of the cards in TWO'S so that I could double up. And I got lucky with the Options Card because I ended up getting THREE shirts without having to pay any difference. In fact, I even had some money left over on the card.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have wonderful weekend too!

Yes, I know many people who feel the same way, either they forget that they have them or they lose them. That's right, I DO remember you posting giveaways on your other blog. That was SO neat because you always gave your readers a choice.

I LOVE wearing black. I even wear it on my days off work. To me, black is a classic color that suits any occasssion.

  19. Hey there Valerie!

Thank you, I needed to go shopping to purchase more black shirts for work because black fades so fast, so I have to stock up every so often. These cards came at the BEST time!

"How DO you manage to take such good pictures of yourself? I've tried it and scrapped every one with a major Grrrrr sound."

I placed my camera on a table in front of me and then set the timer to go off in 10 seconds. Trust me though, I had to scrap a lot of these photographs myself because they were very blurry. This is first time I actually used the timer on my camera so I really didn't know HOW they would come out.

"Had a heavy WI day yesteryear and thought I was late reading your blog. Seems I was wrong."

Do you know what's funny? All week I've been so discombobulated with what day it was because the days seem to be flying by, I can't keep track.

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have a marvi weekend too!

Ooooo yes, yes.... please do share a posing post because I would LOVE to see it! In fact, I think we ALL should do this and start a monthly blog theme "Posing Faux Models" HA!

"Not because they are cold but because I literally ALWAYS lose them and I never get to use them! It is absolutely frustrating!"

Yes, I do know what you mean because I thought about that myself. Sometimes though, the cards have a tracking # so that they can reissue a new card if you lose it.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a super weekend!

"And if I had a house.

OH. MY. GOD.....that's absolutely AWESOME!!!!! WOW...that's A LOT of great stuff you got. Way to GO! Which reminds me, I could used one of my gift cards from Best Buy to purchase a new DVD player because the one I've got is starting to go. So, thanks for giving me the idea!

Yes, it does fit perfectly so I am SUPER happy that it turned out this way. You have no idea how hard it is for me to find men's clothes that fit my body type.

Yup...I am sooooo going to enjoy spending these :)

"Sometimes I'm more in the mood for the cash, but gift cards are always appreciated."

    Absolutely, CASH is great too!

"When I bought my new phone, the company gave me a Visa rewards card to spend as I wanted -- and that was fabulous!"

Yahoooooooo! And I hear that more and more companies are starting to do this because it's a GREAT incentive to purchase something!

Thanks, buddy :) I had so much fun putting this post together over the past couple of days.

"but I also like giving them and will often come out and ask someone where they like to shop so that I can get them a card where I know they will make good use of it."

Yes, I've done the same thing and for the same reason. Gift cards, to me, are the perfect practical gift.

I've had a beard and not had a beard so many times in my life. I've also had just a moustache. But when I was younger and first grew a beard, I too had patches. It's only been since I've gotten older (and grayer) that my beard has come in even. I have to trim it almost every single day because my hair grows so fast and I don't like a messy-looking beard.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy, and have fantabulous weekend!

Ooooo la la! What isn't there to love about everything on this post, including the prospective male model in the black shirts, aka Johnny Ronnie Cash! ;))
I love to give/get gift cards too. A great way of not having to disappoint someone with a gift they're going to stash away or even regift. Part of my birthday present to my niece recently was a Victoria's Secret gift card which she truly appreciated because their prices can be a bit steep considering she's still a student but with champagne taste.
But I agree, it can be risky buying online. But if it's a store you're familiar with, you can get their online clothes for so much less because you're not paying for the overhead as their merchandise will come from a warehouse.
And are you sure you're not already a model, Ron?! :))

  30. " aka Johnny Ronnie Cash! ;))"

Bwhahahahahahaha! OMG, Petra...that was BRILLIANT!!! And yes, I do look like Johnny Cash in his infamous black shirt trademark that he always wore.

"Part of my birthday present to my niece recently was a Victoria's Secret gift card which she truly appreciated because their prices can be a bit steep considering she's still a student but with champagne taste."

That was so thoughtful of you because yes, Victoria's Secret CAN be a bit steep. But oh, their merchandise is so ooooo la la!

"But if it's a store you're familiar with, you can get their online clothes for so much less because you're not paying for the overhead as their merchandise will come from a warehouse."

You are so right about that because they didn't carry the black shirt I saw online (or the sale) in the actually Old Navy store here in Philadelphia. So, I had to purchase it online. And I'm so glad I did.

"And are you sure you're not already a model, Ron?! :))"

Nah, just a FAUX model :)
