Post updates by email:

Do you know how it is when you take a bunch of photographs but then have no idea what you're ever going to do with them? I do that a lot. Sometimes I will have a basic idea if I have a theme in mind, but most of the time I just snap pictures that interest me and then save them on my hard drive until I can figure out how to string them together for a blog post presentation.

However, like today, I still couldn't come up with a way to put them together where they would all somehow thread into one theme.

Which is why I entitled this post, Odds and Ends.

Please enjoy this themeless, threadless, and odd post...

Window display in UNIQLO (a Japan-based clothing retailer), which just recently opened in Philadelphia.

Staircase inside UNIQLO.
It felt like I was walking up the stairs in a 1970's Discotheque. The only thing that was missing was the sound of the Bee Gees singing, You Should Be Dancing

I spotted this mural in an alleyway. Not only did I love the mural, but also the graffiti on the wall.

Jewelry store window display.
This beautiful, ornate necklace looks like something Cleopatra wore.

This photograph was actually a mistake because I had my camera settings wrong, so it came out looking like a BAD ACID TRIP. But for some reason, I think it ended up looking kinda cool.

A view into an office window.

Notice the light white mist in front of the guy walking the dog. He had just exhaled smoking a cigarette.

A vintage neon sign in old South Philadelphia.

I took this photograph on a grey rainy day when the fog was low. The Comcast Center.

Who knew there was such a thing as a Sponge Bob mailbox?

See, didn't I tell you this post was ODD?

Have a maaahvelous Monday, y'all!

  1. I like these, Ron. Every one has it's own special features. I particularly like the one of the man and his dog simply because it led the eye to the other man in the picture. What was his other leg doing, I wonder....

It's a good idea to show pics we don't know what to do with. It is better than chucking them out like I did duh! I think my imagination is leaving me lately.

Happy Monday and I hope you have a good week. Soon be Christmas! Oh, and apologies for the lack of replies on my blog.... Blogger has decided not to tell me they're there!

  2. I love posts like these Ron...it's how my brain thinks anyway!! :) I especially love the neon looking store...looks like a cool place!! And the old theatre. Window shopping is always fun! I am a FREAK about taking pictures inside and outside of Anthropologie! It is one of my favorite places to snap away!! I always ask if it is ok, just in case!! Hope all's well with you, my friend, busy, busy with Christmas Prep!! xo Jeanne and the girlz

  3. More fabulous photos, Ron. I love them all. I'm surprised by the SpongeBob mailbox. I wouldn't think the US postal would allow that. The guy next to the smoker looks like a ghost! Don't you love neon signs? There is a neon sign graveyard in Vegas that I want to visit.

    Have a great week!

  5. Ron, the last time I was back in New York visiting my family I went to UNIQLO. What impressed me was how beautifully organized the store was. The clothes are not my style, but I enjoyed the visit. Also, I thought they were a little pricey.

I love the photo of the mural. Beautiful shot of the grey rainy day and fog! I always enjoy your photographic eye because you see things I wouldn't even notice.

    Have a wonderful week, Ronx

  6. Hey, Ron, these photos are fabulous! You have a such a great gift for capturing powerful images. Each of these photos has a story to tell.

I love the Dummy Brigade at UNIQLO and the funky staircase and I love the old sign in South Philly, too. I'm glad you told us that you had made a mistake on one photo--i was afraid I had dropped some acid!

Great post, buddy! I hope your week is suitable for framing! Take care!

  7. Ron, great selection of odds and ends! My three favorites are the mural, the neon sign, and the guy smoking the cigarette. What's really creepy about that shot is that you can't see the guys face or hands, and the pedestrian walking past him looks like a GHOST! Love that photo of the foggy sky too!

    As always, your photographs ROCK!

  8. Good morning Valerie!

" because it led the eye to the other man in the picture. What was his other leg doing, I wonder...."

HA! Isn't it interesting how that photo came out? I shot that with my camera in "auto" mode so it wasn't anything I did, but the settings must have been just right because it's main focus was on the guy with the dog, but then blurred the walking pedestrian to almost look like a ghost!

"It's a good idea to show pics we don't know what to do with. It is better than chucking them..."

I agree. A lot of my photographs (even many of the ones I post here), I upload and host on Flickr, just in case I want to use them. Plus, it frees up space on my hard drive.

"Oh, and apologies for the lack of replies on my blog.... Blogger has decided not to tell me they're there!"

No worries, dear lady. Earlier this week, I read something on someones blog who is also on Blogger and they mentioned having issues with comment notification, so I understand. Don't you love these technical issues? I also have them with Disqus.

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a Happy Monday and week!
    X to you and Joe!

  9. Hello there Jeanne!

"..it's how my brain thinks anyway!! :)"

    HA! Me too at times!!!!

" I am a FREAK about taking pictures inside and outside of Anthropologie! It is one of my favorite places to snap away!! I always ask if it is ok, just in case!!"

OMG, thank you for reminding me about Anthropologie because I'm a freak about taking photographs there as well. I need to stop by sometime before Christmas and get some shots of their amazing displays!

Yes, this is such a busy time of the year, isn't it? In a few more weeks, I'm going to be insane with work and will most likely take a blogging break for a week so that I can just concentrate on working.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a super week!

  10. Thank you, Bijoux :)

" I'm surprised by the SpongeBob mailbox. I wouldn't think the US postal would allow that."

Me too! I spotted that mailbox around the area where Trader Joe's is located and just had to snap a photograph.

" Don't you love neon signs? There is a neon sign graveyard in Vegas that I want to visit."

Yes, I love neon signs! Ooooo...and I bet the neon sign graveyard in Vegas is faaaaabulous because of all the amazing signage in that city! Vegas is like one HUGE neon sign of bright lights!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaabulous week!

  11. Aren't the murals in Philly, faaaaabulous, Grace? They're such beautiful works of art! And I like how you can find them all over the city.

Denise, you said exactly what I feel. I loved how neat and organized the store was, in fact, I even mentioned it to one of the managers. The clothes are not my style as well. And yes, even though they had some great sales going on, I think their original pricing was very high!

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a WONDERFUL week too!

  13. Hey there Rob!

    Thank you :)

"I love the Dummy Brigade at UNIQLO..."

I'm pretty sure they have a several of those stores in NYC too. They just opened one here in Philly, back in late October. It's a beautifully laid out store, but the clothing is VERY expensive.

"I'm glad you told us that you had made a mistake on one photo--i was afraid I had dropped some acid!"

    Bwhahahahhaha! Isn't that photo FREAKY!?!

Much thanks for stopping by, buddy. Have a super week! And you take care.

  14. Ron, I can always count on you to entertain me on Mondays!

Love these photos, even the "mistakes." Descending a staircase like that must make one feel like a princess! But those manikins lined up like an unseeing army kind of gives me the creeps, ha!

What a cool office -- who wouldn't want to work surrounded by all those books?! And the fog partially hiding the top of the Comcast building is spectacular. You know, I always feel a bit sorry for dogs whose owners are smokers -- wonder if they, too, are susceptible to second-hand-smoke-related diseases??

    Happy week to you, dear!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a most excellent week!

"But those manikins lined up like an unseeing army kind of gives me the creeps, ha!"

They are creepy, aren't they? And I think it's because of their white and undefinable faces. They almost look like robots!

"You know, I always feel a bit sorry for dogs whose owners are smokers -- wonder if they, too, are susceptible to second-hand-smoke-related diseases??"

    Yes, I'm sure they are.

Happy week to you, my friend. And thanks so much for stopping by!

  17. Ron, you really know how to capture the essence of city life in your photographs. These are all great! The murals in Philadelphia are such a nice highlight.

The Comcast Center photo is spectacular!

  18. Yes, I have lots of photos I will probably never use!
The pink staircase has a wild effect when scrolling from top to bottom on my screen!
Love the bull dog! And I have never seen a Sponge Bob mail box!

  19. "so it came out looking like a BAD ACID TRIP." Lol

Ron, I really liked how that photo ended up. It looks Sci-Fi! All of these photographs have such a unique feel. What an excellent capture of the guy walking the dog. And the one of the neon sign looks as though it was taken back in that time. I love the gold/yellow lighting in the office widow. I like the contrast of that photograph, the cold outside but the warmth inside.

  20. Helloooooo Elaine!

    Thank you :)

I really enjoy city life, for so many reasons: walking everywhere, the convenience of having things close by, and all the visuals and sounds going on around me. I always knew as a kid that I was meant to live in a city.

Yes, Philly is notorious for its murals. They're works of art and add a great touch to the city.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have super week! Can you believe how the weather changed so suddenly? It finally feels like WINTER!

  21. "Yes, I have lots of photos I will probably never use!"

I keep some of mine on Flickr and some on a cloud, just in case I ever want to use them for something. I don't like keeping them on my computer because it takes up so much space, plus, I worry that if my computer ever crashes, I'll lose them.

"The pink staircase has a wild effect when scrolling from top to bottom on my screen!"

Oh how COOL! I'll have to try that!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Suzi. Have a fantastic week, my friend!

    " It looks Sci-Fi!"

HA! Yes, is does look Sci-Fi, you're right! I took about three shots before I realized that my camera was set on manual mode from the previous day. But when I uploaded them to my computer and took a look, I thought they were kinda cool blurry.

"...the cold outside but the warmth inside."

I took that photo just as it was starting to get dark one night. It's an office building not to far from where I live.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a grrrreat week!

Isn't it something how sometimes a "mistake" with the camera will capture a picture that's more interesting than what we saw through the lens?

No, we not gotten ANY snow yet and I'm bummed. It's very cold and we're getting a lot of rain, but I can't wait for the WHITE stuff! Hopefully soon!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a terrific week!

  31. The mural in the alleyway is really good, I like that one, each picture is unique in it's own way which makes them all good, can't say I have even seen sponge bob collecting mail, something is fishy about this in my opinion ha ha

  32. Thanks, Jimmy :) Philly has a lot of these cool murals throughout the city. And I like how some of them are tucked away in alleyways that I will sometimes stubble upon.

"I have even seen sponge bob collecting mail, something is fishy about this in my opinion ha ha.

    Yes, VERY fishy!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Hope you're having a fabulous week!

  33. Ohhh...love the "mistake", the low fog, the mural and the vintage sign. I thought it fit with the "all in one" deal (cute header, btw!). I mean it's all YOU!! And I'm glad it's Wednesday so I can report that I DID have a groovy Monday. LOL. Just keeping with the disco deal. Gonna go humm some Bee Gee's stuff now. :-)

  37. My favourite photo is the man with a dog. I love that you used a slow shutter speed and got the passing man blurred, yet the rest of the image is nice and sharp and you managed to capture the smoke quite clearly. Love it!

I also enjoy moving the camera and getting some lovely light effects too.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thank you, Babs :)

I'm starting to fiddle around more with my camera settings by using it manual mode instead of depending on auto. And as I'm sure you know, it's all in the 'doing' and experimenting. Trial and error. It's a work in progress.

"I also enjoy moving the camera and getting some lovely light effects too."'

Isn't it fun? And I always enjoy YOUR photographs!!

Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope you're having a FABU week!

    X to you and Mo!

I really like the one with guy excelling some smoke. It looks like you caught a ghost walking by him...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thank you, Pat :) I couldn't think of another way to post these photos except entitling them: themeless, threadless and odd - HA!

It's funny because when I took the picture, I could see that the guy was smoking but didn't notice him exhaling until I uploaded the photo.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Hope you had a great week!

  43. What an eclectic journey, Ron! From the Uniglo staircase to the mural/graffiti. So very mysterious and intriguing. Is it me, or are you getting better at capturing the essence and magic of each subject? There's something so special about each, I cannot decide a favorite; each is so very different.
    So wonderful, Ron! :))

  44. Thank you for your sweet and encouraging words, Petra :)

I think the more I keep photographing, the more it keeps teaching me to 'notice' things around me. Having a camera is like having another set of eyes.
