Post updates by email:

I wanted to update you guys and gals on my new job to let you know how it’s going, and also share some things I’ve learned about change.

First, let me say that I am so glad I made this change and enjoying it because I’m being challenged to learn new things – like, how different companies run and learning a whole new system. And I must say that this company is extremely well-organized so that it runs smoothly. It runs 100% better than my previous company, and I could tell that on the very first week I started working there.

The type of retail industry I’m in can be very hectic and erratic because every day is completely different than the day before. Therefore, a company needs to have some sort of in-place system to accommodate the uncertainty of each day because you never know what’s going to happen.

The company I currently work for has a MUCH higher volume of customer traffic than my previous place of employment. There are some days when the traffic is constant so that we’re servicing customer’s one right after the other and sometimes two customers at the same time. This job has taught me the art of multitasking and how to do it so that each customer feels they’re getting the attention they deserve. And a lot of that has to do with this company having a well-oiled system for handling high volume traffic, by being prepared with a well-staffed store, extremely competent managers, and high stock levels of products so that customers are able to purchase WHAT they need, WHEN they need it. Thus, customers leave HAPPY.

One of the many things I’m enjoying about this new job is that time flies when I’m there. I work anywhere from 8-9 hours a day, and because of the busyness, I feel as though I’m only working 4-5 hours. I’m one of those people who when I work, likes to be VERY busy.

However, this job did not come without feeling a bit of fear and nervousness when I first started eight weeks ago. It can be challenging to enter into a new place of employment when it’s been in existence for so long because you never know how you’ll ‘fit in’ with the other employees and whether you’ll be embraced. But I must say, every one there has been extremely accepting and helpful; making this transition a smooth one. I already feel part of the ‘group’ as if I’ve been there forever.

Also, this company seriously believes in continuing education and offers training classes on a regular basis to keep us updated on the latest products and techniques. In fact, I just recently completed an intensive two-day certified training seminar on skincare, makeup and hair care. And it was FABULOUS!

When you’ve been in this industry as long as I have, you can sometimes get very complacent and comfortable in doing things the same way; thinking that you already know everything. Yet, this new job has reminded me to always keep an open my mind and stay receptive to learning different ways of doing things, so that I continue to grow and stay sharp.

I feel very blessed and fortunate to have landed this job. And I'm very proud to work for this company because their first and foremost priority is giving outstanding customer service and building a loyal following. And they also know how to treat their employees with respect.

Oh, and one more thing. I've never worked for a company in my life who when they achieve their monthly goals and receive a bonus, shares that bonus with each and every employee who works in the store. So that when they profit, everyone profits!

So yeah, I'm really enjoying this new job.

And looking forward to where it takes me!

Have a great week, y'all!

  1. Hey, Ron, this is such great news! I'm so happy for you!

So many people (myself included) drag themselves to work every morning just waiting for the day to end, so it's great to hear from someone who loves his job!

This sounds like a really great company and I know you'll do well there. You made a change and now you're reaping the rewards!

Keep up the great work, buddy, and have a fantastic week!

  2. Ron, I'm so glad you posted about your new job because I had been wondering how it was going and if you liked it. And it sounds like it was just the change you needed. I'm sure they're very happy to have YOU with all your previous background too!

How wonderful that when they bonus, everyone bonuses. And that's the way it should be in all businesses.

Is there opportunity for you to grow in other areas if you decide to move around?

    The best to you, Ron!

  3. Hey there Rob!

Thank you :) And yes, I really love going into work each day instead of dreading it like my last job. There's a really good energy in this new place that I'm very grateful for. And the people I'm working with are very talented and take pride in what they do, so it makes me proud to work there.

    Glad I made this move.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a SUPER week!

  4. Hello there Elaine!

Yes, I'm glad I decided to make this change because it seems like the right one. It's a completely different environment than my previous job. Not only is it a company I feel proud to work for, but the people I work with are extremely talented and very professional in what they do.

"How wonderful that when they bonus, everyone bonuses."

Isn't that awesome? As long as I've been in this business, I've never had a company do that for every single person who works in the store. Most of the time, it's only the managers who receive bonuses.

"Is there opportunity for you to grow in other areas if you decide to move around?"

Yes there is. In fact, I would like to move more into training and education with this company. And they are very good at promoting people within the company to other positions.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a fantastic week!

Me too. I would like to move into training and education, and this company is very open to promoting from within. I made them aware of my desire to grow with the company and they seem very receptive.

Thanks so much for stopping by and for your kind words, buddy. Have a most excellent week!

  9. Eight weeks already! How time flies.

I was so pleased to read this and to know that things are GREAT with the job. I'm pleased to hear you were made so welcome. It's marvellous to 'belong' so quickly.

Good news about company practices. How often have you heard me moan that our local stores force me to buy on the internet instead of stocking things I and others want?

So it's good news all round. You're happy and they're happy. Wonderful!

  10. Hey Ron! I am absolutely thrilled for you!! So, SO happy to hear that you are feeling fulfilled in your new position. That means a lot...especially when you are spending most of your waking hours at your job! I am very glad to hear that you feel welcomed and the company is to your liking!! I have not been feeling well, so I haven't been up to my usual pace of reading blogs every night. Please know that I am wishing you continued success and contentment in this new position! 12. Good morning Valerie!

I know, can you believe how fast times flies? At the end of this week it'll be eight weeks!

"How often have you heard me moan that our local stores force me to buy on the internet instead of stocking things I and others want?"

I've worked for many stores over the years and none of them have been as well-stocked as this one. We receive stock shipment twice a week. And if we do run out of something, the company will ship (free of charge).

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, dear lady. Have a fabulous week!

Yes, you're right, it certainly does. I actually love going into work and I haven't felt that way in a long time.

" I have not been feeling well, so I haven't been up to my usual pace of reading blogs every night."

No worries, my friend. I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well though. You take care, okay?

Much thanks for stopping by and have a great week! Can you believe it's almost JULY already? This summer is flying by so fast.

  15. Ron, I am so happy to hear that you're enjoying the new job! From what you've said, it sounds like a great place to work!

One thing that is so frustrating to me as a customer is when certain stores are out of stock. I can understand it happening occasionally, but when it continually happens it makes me want to go elsewhere to shop. Or just shop online.

"I’m one of those people who when I work, likes to be VERY busy." I'm the same way. I don't like looking at the clock.

Have a wonderful week, Ron x

"....when certain stores are out of stock. I can understand it happening occasionally, but when it continually happens it makes me want to go elsewhere to shop. Or just shop online."

I know what you mean because in the last place I worked, they were constantly out of products, which made a lot of customers go elsewhere to shop. In fact, that's one of the things the customer's complained about the most.

"I'm the same way. I don't like looking at the clock."

Me neither. I don't like being aware of the time when I work.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a super week and 4th of July!

OMG, you are so funny!!!! If you go to the drugstore and purchase an eyebrow pencil in the color Blonde/Taupe and lightly fill in your brows, it will give your light eyebrows a boost of color and shape. You can also go to You Tube and search for eye brow tutorials. They have a lot of really great how-to videos there!

  33. Am so happy to hear that your happy at your new place of employment, Ron. It's not easy to find a job where one can speak so highly and enthusiastically of everything about it. And to share its bonus with their employees...that's virtually nonexistent now! It's great to look forward to work rather than just dragging one's heels.
Again, Ron, stay well and happy! :))
p.s. Can you believe it's nearly the 4th of July! It seems like yesterday I was on the phone with my brother to share with him that Frank Valli was singing at the White House celebration. Adore Frank Valli & the Four Seasons! My name was Candy when I was ~13, and everyone would tease me and sing Candy Girl. Summer would not be summer without their music.

Isn't that GREAT? In all the years I've been in the retail industry, I've never had a company do that for EVERYONE in the store.

And you're right, working for a company in which you feel pride and appreciation, makes you WANT to go to work.

"Can you believe it's nearly the 4th of July!"

I know, can you believe how fast this summer is going? I felt like it just started, but here it is already the 4th of July! Before we know it, FALL will be here!?
