Post updates by email:

As I shared before, my brother Tom had never been to New York City so he was anxious to see A LOT. And let me tell you, I had so much fun taking him all over the city. There were certain things he wanted to see on his first trip to the Big Apple, which we did, however he saw even more than he imagined in those three days. Poor guy, I walked his ass off every single day. But I have to say, he was in great shape, so he was able to keep up and never complained. He only asked to take a cab twice while we were there.

Oh, and I also took him on his first New York subway ride, which he really enjoyed.

Anyway, today I would like to share a potpourri of pictures from various days in the city. I'll start with Central Park (pictured above).

To me, there is nothing quite like Central Park in early Fall as the leaves begin to change. In the middle of the concrete jungle known as Manhattan, it's a pretty amazing experience to walk through this massive park and be surrounded by such beautiful nature. You almost forget that you're in a city.

While in Central Park, we walked to one of my favorite areas, Bethesda Terrace, which ended up being my brothers favorite area as well. He just loved it!

A park musician (this guy was AWESOME)....

A park entertainer (making bubbles)...

We also visited Grand Central Station...

No matter what time of day, Grand Central is always bustling...

One day we visited Bryant Park Grill in Bryant Park.
Isn't it lovely?....

For mid-October, the weather was actually quite warm the days we were in New York City. Here are some people sunning themselves during lunch hour...

SoHo, Manhattan...

Alert...Celebrity Photograph Ahead!

Not to brag or anything, but I got the chance to meet a celebrity one rainy afternoon. Guess who it was? Are you ready? Okay, I'll show you...

...MARGE SIMPSON!!!!

She was just sitting there on a bench in front of a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown and suddenly asked if I would like to join her. She even offered to take a picture with me. I think she had the hots for me because you can't see it in this photograph, but she had her right hand on my left thigh. Look at her face, she looks so turned-on, doesn't she?

Have a faaaabulous weekend everyone!

Oh Ron - thank you for the smiles! Love love that photo of you with the celebrity... (Ha ha!)

Your shots of NY are so beautiful - it looks nice in October over there.

  2. Ron, I loved this post and in particular that cracking photo of you and the celebrity. Wowee, and a hand on your knee- how about that!

When I visited Central Park it was covered in snow so I wasn't able to trek too far. I would love to visit in summer or autumn. Maybe I would get to sleep in the sun like that man in the picture.

Enjoy your weekend, my friend xx

  3. She definitely seems a bit surprised by what she found!!! LOL, Ron! You are too much!

I visited Central Park once in October 1984 and I still remember how beautiful it was! That Bethesda Terrace area is really cool with the architecture. I haven't ever heard of Bryant Park, but that place looks great for an outdoor meal! We Northerners need to soak up ever drop of sunshine while we still can. XO

  4. Ron, you are too funny! I LOL reading about Marge coming on to you in Chinatown. What a great photo too! Your pics of New York are just beautiful. I especially love the ones inside Central Park. I'm so glad to hear that you and brother had such a great time together. Looking forward to reading more.

  5. Hey there Fiona!

I just couldn't resist sharing my meet up with Marge Simpson - HA!

October (and November) are my favorite months to visit NYC.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a lovely weekend!

  6. Good morning Valerie!

" Wowee, and a hand on your knee- how about that!"

Yes, she was quite aggressive - ha!

"When I visited Central Park it was covered in snow so I wasn't able to trek too far. I would love to visit in summer or autumn. Maybe I would get to sleep in the sun like that man in the picture."

To me, Autumn and Spring are my favorite seasons in New York because the weather is comfortable. In as much as I love NYC, summer can be brutally hot and humid. I don't usually go to the city in July or August because it's just too, too hot.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a terrific weekend!

Hahahahahhahaha! That cracked me the hell up!

"I visited Central Park once in October 1984 and I still remember how beautiful it was! That Bethesda Terrace area is really cool with the architecture."

Yes, that's why I suggested that my brother come in October because the weather (and change of season) make visiting New York all the more better.

Bryant Park is behind the New York City Public Library. It's between 40th and 41st Streets on the East Side. It's just gorgeous! In the winter, they turn it into an outdoor ice skating rink.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a super weekend!

  8. Hello there Candice!

Ha! I just could resist sharing about my encounter with celebrity Marge Simpson!

I adore Grand Station. It's one of my favorite NYC landmarks.

It was so much fun to introduce my brother to New York City for the first time. He loved it! We had such a great time, both in NYC and Philly!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaaaabulous weekend!

  9. "I think she had the hots for me because you can't see it in this photograph, but she had her right hand on my left thigh. Look at her face, she looks so turned-on, doesn't she?" ROFLMAO! Ron, that was hilarious! And I love the look on your face as well :)

As always, awesome photographs! You make NY come alive for those of us who have never been there. You can always feel the energy of the city in your pictures. Grand Central Station looks amazing.

Great post, dude! Can't wait to see more.

  10. Oh, I'm so glad your brother enjoyed his first trip to The City! And how cool that he had a guide so well-versed in everything New York! That's the ONLY way to visit there, you know.

Ron, I love your photos. What a lovely sunny day you had to see the sights! I can see how that fountain might be your brother's favorite -- water is sooo calming. And you were awfully kind to share your 'brella with Marge (well, sort of, ha!)

Happy Fall weekend, my friend! xx

  11. Ron, you were in New York!?! Bummer! I would've loved to have seen you! But I do owe you a trip to Philly and I haven't forgotten that.

The photos look fabulous, of course, and they really illustrate your love for New York. You're welcome in the Big Apple anytime.

But stay away from Marge Simpson! She's MY girl!

    Take care, buddy!

  12. Hiya Matt!

"And I love the look on your face as well :)"

HA! Yeah I know, my face kinda looks like I'm scared but enjoying it!

Thank you for your kind words. I love taking pictures of New York because there is so much to look at and photograph. It's a city that LOVES to be photographed.

Grand Central Station is one of my all-time favorite NYC landmarks. The historical architecture is just gorgeous!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a most excellent weekend!

  13. Hey there Debbie!

"And how cool that he had a guide so well-versed in everything New York! That's the ONLY way to visit there, you know."

I get so much joy from sharing the city with people who come for the first time because it always makes me so excited. Almost as if "I'm" also seeing it for the first time. For as BIG as New York is, it's actually a very easy city to get around in. New York is like a second home for me, I feel so comfortable there.

Yes you're right, my brother liked Bethesda Terrace in Central Park the best because it was very calm and relaxed. He could get over how different it felt from being in other parts of the city where it was much more crowded and noisy.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Happy Fall weekend to you too!

  14. Hellooooo there Rob!

There were times when I wanted to call you and possibly meet up, however, our visit there was so manic because we wanted to cover a lot of ground in three days that we were constantly doing something.

Yes, please do let me know when you'd like to visit Philly, I would love to be your tour guide!

As you know, I LOVE New York with all my heart and soul, so it's a joy to photograph it.

"But stay away from Marge Simpson! She's MY girl!"

    HAHAHAHAHA! Okay, will do!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a faaaaaabulous weekend!

  15. Oh Ron, what amazing photographs! You always make me miss my native city when you post about it. For someone who was not born there, you seem like a native. You are such an advocate for the Big Apple!

That picture of Central Park is SO beautiful! I'd forgotten how incredible it looks in the Fall. Don't you just love Bryant Park? Fashion Week!!!

Priceless photo of you and Marge. You crack me up!

Have a wonderful week, Ron x

  16. Hola Denise!

From the time I first visited New York City, when I was only 14 years old, I fell it love with it. I knew it was a city in which I would one day live, which I did. It's a city that feels like home to me. It's "as if" I was born there. It's my "soul city."

Isn't Central Park GORGEOUS in the Fall? I wish I could see it now because that picture was taken almost three weeks ago, so I'm sure the leaves on the trees have turned even more brighter.

"Don't you just love Bryant Park? Fashion Week!!!"

Yup! And what is so cool about Bryant Park is that it constantly changes from season to season and month to month. I love it in the Winter when they put in the ice skating rink!

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have wonderful weekend too!

  17. Oh my god Ron, my husband and I laughed our asses off at the picture of you and Marge and her advances on you. You are so funny! Being a New Yorker, I find it odd that they had a statue of Marge Simpson in middle of Chinatown. WTF?

Your photographs are so beautiful. You really captured the diversity of the city. I love how you described Central Park. You're right!

Beautiful shot of SoHo. Boy, has that area ever changed. It's totally different than when we lived in New York.

I can't wait to see more of your trip with your brother. I bet he really enjoyed touring the city with you.

Have a great weekend, Ron x

  18. Hey there Elaine!

HA! The second I saw Marge sitting there, I said to my brother, "Quick...take a picture of me with her so that I can put it on my blog!" Yes, it's is rather odd that she was sitting there in Chinatown, I agree.

To me, there is nothing so stunning as Central Park in the Fall. When I live in New York, my apartment was on 65th Street, directly next to Central Park. Back then I didn't realize just how lucky I was to live there.

" Boy, has that area ever changed. It's totally different than when we lived in New York."

Yes! I know what you mean because when I lived in New York City (back in the 70's and 80's) SoHo looked completely different. It was much more Bohemian and rustic-looking. It also was very inexpensive to live there back then. But not know. Know, you can't even touch it.

My brother and I had so much fun together in the city. I enjoyed taking him all around.

Thanks so much for stopping by, neighbor! Have a terrific weekend!

  19. Ron, you live on 65th St next to Central Park? Lucky you! Wow, you must have paid a fortune. Did you rent an apartment?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes, I rented a studio apartment with my partner at the time. It was a rather large studio with a fireplace and hardwood floors. We paid only $290.00 per month. Now mind you, that was back in the late 70's-early 80's. But still, we were VERY lucky to be living on the East Side of Manhattan, right next to Central Park.

  21. I absolutely love the first photo of Central Park, Ron. The colors are stunning! And the Bryant Park Grill is a beautiful setting, as well. Looks like you gave your brother the grand tour and then some. I mean, Marge Simpson - was he blown away or what?? I'm impressed. That blue hair has always done it for me.

    Happy Guy Fawkes Day!

  22. Thank you, Mark :) I adore Central Park and felt really fortunate to have been there as Autumn began and the leaves started to change. It's truly the best time to see Central Park.

My brother and I had such a great time in NYC. Being his first visit, it was such a joy for me to see him taking it all in. In fact, it was just as exciting for me as it was for him

"I mean, Marge Simpson - was he blown away or what?? I'm impressed. That blue hair has always done it for me."

    Bwhahahahahahaha! That CRACKED. ME. UP!!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a great rest of your weekend!

  23. Your brother certainly couldn't have asked for a better tour guide! Your post makes me think how important it is that the person showing you around doesn't just know the place but also really loves it. Gorgeous photos of Central Park. I've only been once, many years ago, but I was impressed.

And the last photo made me laugh out loud!

  24. As you know, I adore NYC, so it was such a joy to share my love for the city with my brother. And after all these years of me talking (and bragging) about it, he was finally able to see WHY I love it so much.

"Gorgeous photos of Central Park. I've only been once, many years ago, but I was impressed."

Thank you :) Isn't Central Park gorgeous? Especially this time of year.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaaabulous week!

SO glad you and your brother had some time together to explore the city...your photos are stunning!! I have never been to SoHo but would definitely like to go there sometime...The fall colors are so pretty! You have captured the true essence of the city! So different from where I live here in NY! Happy Monday...have a great day! xo Jeanne and the girls

  26. Ron, What a great post, You have captured the essence of NYC in your photos. There is no place on God's Earth that encompasses all this. I was partial to the people sunning themselves. Just looking at that shot I felt the warm rays of the sun on my body. It was warm and fuzzy at the same time. I get this feeling when I wet my pants too. Talking about pissing ourselves can not wait for election day.

HA! I know, who would think Marge and I would ever meet and be an "item" HA!

Thank you :) Nothing quite like Fall in NYC! I always get so inspired to take pictures in NYC because everywhere you turn there is something interesting to photograph. My brother and I had such a great time together. The week went so fast and it was sad when he left for the airport to go back to Florida.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Hope you're enjoying Autumn where you are. I bet it's GORGEOUS! Have a great week!

  29. Ron, you crack me up! You and Marge make such an attractive looking couple LOL! Your pics and stories of New York City always convey your love and connection to have for it. I'm sure your brother enjoyed his visit to the Big Apple just from being there with you.

Awesome images! I love the one of Soho. What a beautiful building. Central Park looks gorgeous!

I'm curious, have you visited Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial?

P.S. enjoyed the video clip of Audrey Hepburn on your sidebar!

  30. Hey ho Robert!

Thank you! Don't Marge and I make a splendid couple? HA!

I can't tell you how excited I was to she him New York City for the first time. I was probably more excited than he was. He really enjoyed it too. It's not a place he could ever live, but he got to see WHY I love it so much.

Isn't Central Park stunning? I think it looks even more beautiful in the Fall, when the leaves begin to change.

"I'm curious, have you ever visited Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial?"

Yes, as a matter of fact I have. And ironic you mentioned that because I took my brother there while in Lower Manhattan. I will be sharing a few photographs from that day in another post.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a faaaaabulous week! X

P.S. Thanks! I found that video clip on You Tube. Doesn't she look lovely in it?
