One of the primary reasons I decided on this new blog template is because of the wide width (980px) in the post section. I knew it would be ideal for those times when I wanted to post photographs.

Like now.

Over the weekend, I took a long walk down to my favorite section of the city because it's the oldest and has an earthy and creative vibe.

And the weather couldn't have been more beautiful. Yes, it was cold. Very cold. However, there wasn't a cloud in the sky and the sun was big and bright. So, after grabbing a nice hot cup of java at my favorite cafe, I was inspired to take a few reflective photographs.

Please enjoy...

These next two photographs are not reflections, but rather shadows...

On the way back to my apartment, I walked past a home design shop and spotted this really cool window display and tried to see if I could catch my reflection in the cell phone mirror.

Can you find me?

Wishing you a reflective week, y'all!

  1. I found you! Those are masterful photos, Ron. Isn’t it wonderful when the sky is so blue and the sun is shining in the winter? Such a mood uplifter! My favorite is the 4th photo with that blue sky and the tree branch. It’s almost hard to believe it’s a reflection. But I have to ask, in the 5th photo, what the heck is that white monkey? Is it a painting on the building? It’s weird looking! Lol! Hope your week is full of peaceful reflection. XO

  2. Clever photo at the end with you framed in the cell phone screen. I love reflection photos. They are always a little surreal to me. I especially like the branches and all that blue sky in the mirrored windows of the fourth photo.

  3. Ron, your reflective photos are awesome! I love the two photos of your own reflections. And the one of the bridge and its reflection in the windows is so cool because it looks like the bridge is going through the building. I think your new blog design highlights your photographs perfectly.

I clicked on the link to check out your favorite cafe and it looks so charming. x

  4. This photographs are beautiful, Ron! The first one of your reflective self-portray instantly reminded me of the photographer Vivian Maier. Do you know of her? There is a wonderful documentary about her named, "Looking for Vivian Maier", in case you're interested. Fascinating story.

I love the first shadow shot and the beautiful contrast between the white steeple and the blue sky. It's striking!

  5. "Isn’t it wonderful when the sky is so blue and the sun is shining in the winter?"

OMG....YES! And that's exactly the kind of day it was. Right after I got my coffee, I sat on a bench in a small park and just basked in the sun. It feel so good!

"But I have to ask, in the 5th photo, what the heck is that white monkey? Is it a painting on the building? It’s weird looking!"

HA! I know, isn't that white monkey weird-looking? It's actually a lamp that you mount on a wall (note the monkey's arm and how it's stretched upward, his hand is where it's attached to the wall). And in his other hand you can see him holding a lightbulb with the electrical cord extending from it. The windows within the window you see, are just reflections from the building across the alleyway. I took that photo right after I got my coffee because it's directly next door.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaaaaabulous week! We just got hit with a huge snow storm and I am loving it.

  6. Isn't that cellphone screen thingy so cool? It's a mirror that you can hang on a wall.

The day I took these photographs, the weather was just perfect. The sunshine and blue sky really added to the lighting.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my Libra friend. Have a faaaaaaaaabulous week!

  7. Hey there Candice!

    Thank you.

"And the one of the bridge and its reflection in the windows is so cool because it looks like the bridge is going through the building"

I know, I thought the same thing when I looked up and saw the image. It was like an optical illusion. HA!

I LOVE that coffee cafe. In fact, it's my favorite in the city because it's got such a wonderful vibe. And everyone who works there is so friendly and nice. It's a privately owned business, which I love supporting. I can't wait until I can sit inside again because they have such a lovely sitting area. But since COVID, there is no longer indoor seating available.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a fantastic week!

  8. OMG Daniel.....I CANNOT believe your mentioned the movie, "Looking for Vivian Maier" because about 4 1/2 years ago, I wrote a post about that documentary and highlighted several of her photographs. It was a FAB-U-LOUS documentary! Also, about 2 years ago I went to NYC and visited a photo exhibit of her work. And it was surreal to be standing directly in front of her photographs and seeing them for REAL.

Thank you. I took that shot on the street where I got my coffee. I love that area of town.

  9. Aha, there you are!! Excellent photos, Ron, and no wonder you selected this blog design. It's just about perfect for what you're trying to showcase!

I can see you had a gorgeous day for sauntering around town -- the sky is so blue, and I'm impressed at how clean most of these windows appear! Which church steeple is that in your second-to-last photo? That striking white color almost looks like something out of Greece.

Enjoy your snow and the rest of your week! xx

  10. I sure did spot you! I love the last one of your reflection in the mirrored cell phone, Ron! That is such a great picture. As always, you camera talent just keeps getting more and more talented. I like how this new blog design displays your pictures. Yes, the wide width really show them off. I really like the next to the last one of the church steeple between the bridge and the side of the building. That shadow is just so neat. Not being a photographer myself, I always wonder how someone like you sees something and says, "Now that would make a great photo!" You definitely have an eye for capturing them.

Hey, I saw on the news that you got a lot of snow yesterday. My family who still lives in the Northeast said it was pretty intense. And even today. Were you able to get any pictures?

Have a wonderful week, Ron! xo

  11. Hey there Debbie!

Thank you, my friend :) I am really enjoying the wider width of this template because I don't have to crop my photos as much.

I know, I thought the same thing after uploading the photos to my computer. I was amazed by how clean the majority of windows appear. Which made for a really sharp reflection.

Isn't that bright blue sky beautiful against the white steeple lovely? I turned around and saw that image and immediately had to take a picture. That's the St Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, on 4th Street at New Street, near the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Here is the link in case you're interested: http://www.st-augustinechurch.com/

That church was used in the movie, The Sixth Sense, which was shot here in Philadelphia. It's the church where Bruce Willis met the little boy who could see dead people.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Wishing you an AWESOME week!

  12. Hola Denise!

Isn't the cell phone mirror a hoot? I've never seen anything like it. I am really enjoying the wider width in this template because I don't have to crop my photographs a lot. Thank you for your sweet words.

Me too, I love that shot too. As I was walking down the street, I turned around and saw that image and immediately took a picture. I'm not sure exactly what it is that makes me see something and feel the desire to take a picture. A lot of times it happens in an instant. I see something, whether it be the center focus or just off to the side, and just feel the desire to snap it. Sometimes it's the color, the shape, the lighting, or the shadows. I've always loved taking pictures. Even as a kid, I enjoyed looking at book of photographs and studying them.

OMG.......YES.....we got a shitload of snow! It started yesterday around 2 PM and hasn't stopped. Even now, it's snowing like crazy and very windy. It's like a blizzard when I look out my windows. However, I'm loving it because last year we got ZERO snow, so this winter is making up for it.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a most excellent week!

  13. Ron, I had a feeling you knew of Vivian Maier! Oh wow....you got to see one of her exhibits? I'm so jealous. Did you have to pay for the ticket? Was it expensive?

And thank you so much for sharing the link to your archive post, it was GREAT! You really captured her essence and mystic. What a great tribute!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Daniel, can you believe that I didn't pay a penny to see the exhibit? It was F-R-E-E! I know, I was shocked too. I was expecting to pay something to get in, but no. The day I was there they had several art students with their teachers walking through the exhibit. It was so cool!

    Glad you enjoyed the post!

  15. Where's Ron-do?!

Seriously, Ron, these are beautiful images. Your ability to take fantastic, thought-provoking photographs never ceases to amaze me.

I like how you capture the old and the new in the reflections. The reflected buildings look like ghosts in shiny glass--great stuff!

The photo of you with the mask on is so representative of this Covid Age. And I love that old church.

Great work, buddy! And by the way, is there a prize for finding you in that last photo? if so, I want my monkey lamp!!

    Take care!

  18. Hey there Rob!

Aw....thanks. That's one of the things I love about the architecture here (and also in NYC), the old mixed with the new. That's why I like the cities in the Northeast.

"The photo of you with the mask on is so representative of this Covid Age."

You know, I thought the same thing. And I also thought that years from now future generations will look back on this time in history (and photographs of people wearing masks) and think, "Did they really wear MASKS?!?!"

"And by the way, is there a prize for finding you in that last photo? if so, I want my monkey lamp!!"

HA! OMG, I know....isn't that monkey lamp a HOOT?

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a terrific week! It's still snowing here, so I know it's probably still snowing in NY too.

  19. Ron, these pics are so photography inspiring! Yes, the wider width of the post page really makes your images stand out. My three favorites are the second one down (the pic of the building with all the windows and all the glass), the one with the bridge reflected in the windows, and the one of the church steeple and shadow of the bridge on the wall. You have such a great eye for taking photographs!

Love the two reflections of you as well. VERY cool, dude!

  20. Hiya Matt!

Thank you :) It's so nice not to have to crop my photos as much as I used to. I am really loving the wider width. That building with all the all the glass windows is part of Jefferson Hospital, which is down in Society Hill, not far from Old City.

Much thanks for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaaaaaaaaabulous week!

  22. I found you! :)
As always, your photos are wonderful Ron! These reflective ones add an interesting dimension. Very creative! I appreciate seeing them today! Soooo over this snow already, although you must be making snow angels and doing happy dances all over the park! ha!
I've been missing and thinking of many, yet haven't gotten caught up at my favorite blogs in some time. *sigh* Hope I can remedy that real soon. 'Til then, hope all is well. xo

  23. Thank you, Lisa!

It's funny because when I set out that day with my camera, I had no idea what I was going to photograph. But then when I looked up and saw all the reflections in the windows on such a bright, sunny day, I thought, " That's it!"

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Hope your week is faaaaaaaaaaabulous! We just got slammed with a ton of snow and I've been acting like a little kid, jumping up and down.

  24. OMG Mary, I swear to God you've been on my mind for the past two weeks; wondering how you were. I hope well, and that you enjoyed the holidays.

"Soooo over this snow already, although you must be making snow angels and doing happy dances all over the park! ha!"

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Yes, you know me SO WELL because you're right! In fact, as I was walking home from work tonight, it started to snow AGAIN. Last year we got hardly any snow, so I think the weather is making up for it this year.

Thanks SO MUCH for taking the time to stop by and say hello. You've been one of my longest blogging friends, so I miss seeing you.

Sending you much good energy and love.... (((((((((((((((XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX)))))))))))))

  25. Outstanding photos, Ron! I love how sharp and clear they are, and the angles at which you framed them. What kind of camera do you use? Any special lens? You have a great eye.

I really like the ones of your own reflection, especially the first one.

  26. Hi Clair!

Thank you :) Yes, I use a Canon Rebel t5. And the lens I use is one it came with. I really do need to upgrade the lens because it's limited in zoom. I primarily shoot in manual mode, unless I need to shoot quickly. I purchased the camera many years ago and I got it at a great price.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Always so nice to see you! Hope you're enjoying a great week!
