Being that I'm in the beauty industry, I've noticed something very exciting.

Ever since the mask mandates have been lifted, women have been going bonkers purchasing lipstick again. And I have to tell you, it's been so much fun helping them select the perfect shades. Which, by the way, is my favorite cosmetic product to assist with because lipstick does a lot. A woman can wear a lipstick and no other makeup, and if it's the right shade, will instantly make her look and feel like a million bucks. My advice to women has always been that even if you're a minimalist when it comes to makeup, wear a lip color (whether it be a lipstick, lip gloss or lip stain).

Several months ago, the indoor mask mandate was finally lifted here in Philadelphia. We were also given the option to wear or not wear a mask while riding public transportation. However, as you may have seen in the news last month, a mask mandate was once again enforced (on April 18th) because apparently COVID cases were drastically spiking in this city. Now mind you, we were the ONLY city in the U.S. to reinforce the mandate. Therefore, once again we were all required to wear a mask in public indoor spaces.

HOWEVER...

I found it very strange that in only five days (on Friday, April 22nd to be exact), the mandate was lifted, again

Excuse me, but if COVID cases were THAT drastic in our city, tell me, how is it that suddenly (in only FIVE days), everything went back to normal?!?

Makes no sense, does it?

You see, it's stuff like this that causes confusion and frustration because of the mixed messages we're constantly being fed about this virus.

Anyway, moving on...

After 2 1/2 years of abstaining from lipstick, it's been a joy to help my clients select new colors for Spring and Summer. I mean, let's face it, lipstick was pointless during the mask mandate because masks would end up looking like this...

Skincare is another thing that both women and men are currently focusing on because long-term mask wearing has taken a toll on our skin, causing breakouts and even rashes. I've been assisting many customers to select proper skincare products to bring their facial skin back into balance. People don't realize that the skin on our face is much more sensitive than the skin on our body.

Also, with the warmer months approaching and people being outdoors, everyone is now purchasing sunscreen to protect their skin.

I would like to conclude this post by sharing two lipstick tips for anyone out there who enjoys wearing lipstick but may be unsure as to what shades are ideal for them.

1) Undertone - If you have a warm undertone (meaning yellow, golden, or olive) choose lipstick shades that are the opposite (cool tones - pink, burgundy, or wine) because they will compliment your undertone by balancing it. And if you have a cool undertone (meaning pink, red, or bluish), choose lipstick shades that are the opposite (warm tones - coral, orange, or peach) because they will compliment your undertone by balancing it. If you have a neutral undertone (meaning a mixture of both warm and cool), you can wear a variety of lipstick shades.

*Please note: This tip pertains to choosing a lipstick, not a foundation. Foundation should be matched exactly to your undertone.

2) Eyes - You will immediately know that you selected the best lipstick shade when you look in the mirror and notice that your eyes look brighter and more predominant. Trust me, your eyes will let you know which shade is best. And when I demonstrate that to clients while assisting them to select a lipstick, they immediately say, "Oh my god, you're right...I can actually see the difference!"

So ladies, now that you can wear lipstick again, have fun and ENJOY!

Have a colorful week, everyone! 💋
