I’m sure several of my female readers have seen or heard of a cosmetic product called a Lip Plumper.

For those of you who may have no idea what the I’m talking about…

…a lip plumper is a lip treatment product that you apply to your lips before you put on a lipstick, which gives the appearance of FULLER lips. The effect usually lasts a few hours, where upon you must reapply more to keep up the appearance.

There are many different brands on the market, all promising to give you a sexy, fuller pout.

And it does this, by using several special ingredients.

(which you will hear about at the end of this story)

Years ago when lip plumper’s first came out; being the psychotically curious person that I am, I wanted to see if it really worked. So one day while I was on the job, I asked a young lady behind one of the cosmetic counters if she would put some of the product on a Q-tip, so I could apply it to my own lips.

(I took the Q-tip and smeared it all over my mouth)

Well…in about 30 seconds my lips started to tingle.

Then in another 30 seconds my lips not only tingled, but they also began to feel warm.

From warm…they went to hot.

From hot…they went to ELECTRICUTION.

I called the girl over and said, “Excuse me…but is this suppose to feel like this?”

She said: “Do your lips feel slightly warm and tingly?”

I said: “Slightly WARM and TINGLY??? No…how about more like a dancing campfire”

She said: “Really?”

Me: “Yea…REALLY”

She: “Oh…you must be overly sensitive.”

Me: “What the hell is IN this stuff?”

She: “Cayenne pepper and Cinnamon.”

Me: “CAYENNE PEPPER and CINNAMON???”

She: “Yes, that’s what makes your lips plump. It causes a slight irritation…so they swell.”

(I looked in the mirror)

Me: “Yea, well…my lips are definitely IRRITATED.”

As I grabbed a tissue off the counter and proceeded to remove the SHIT-CRAP from my lips, I said…

“So I guess the next time I want a fuller pout, all I really need to do is rub a little Tabasco Sauce and a Cinnamon stick on my lips and I can get the same effect, right?”

Have a "Lip-plumping" weekend, everyone!

  1. Interesting...
Well at least you can honestly answer when people ask "does it work?" LOL.
Well, dearest Ronnie dahling, it's Black Friday-The Sequel...day for returns, and hella insane deals!
(Too bad I gotta work 12 hours, because that's where I'd be...searching for my pengies!)
Guess that means I go Saturday! :D

  4. Morning Mel!

    Yes!!! Cayanne Pepper and Cinnamon!!

I've also seen some lip plumpers that have NIACIN as one of the ingredients!!

    Can you imagine???

This way you can PLUMP your lips and get your daily dose of minerals, simultaniously!

    HAHAHAHA!

I'm working today and tomorrow, but my hours are back to normal, so it won't be too bad. And then come January 1st...I've got the whole month off!

That's when I'll REALLY catch up from the seasonal insanities!

    ALWAYS great seeing ya, Mel!

    Thanks for stopping by!

I'll be making my blog visit rounds within the next two days, to catch up with everyone!

Have an awesome weekend, dear lady!

  7. OH my, you are sensitive to hot huh?

I've only used two...fusion beauty full out pout. and Bare Essentual...what ever. I don't use them all the time. Once in a while.

My favorite lip plumper is my gal with her bruising kisses and a fww nibbles. Woo.

Are you rested up ronnie? I hope so...I've missed you.

  8. Bonjour Leesa!

HOLY MOLY...you put cinnamon oil on your skin?????

    YAWSA!!!!!

I once tried using Oregano oil and had the same thing happen to me!

    OUCH!?#!?

I've study a lot about essential oils, because I use them during my reflexology and reiki sessions. And you're SO right...cinnamon oil is not to be used topically, without using a carrier oil or a lotion to help dilute it.

I actually had a friend in Florida who HAD lip enhancement done on her lips and it did not turn out very well. She now has to use a lip liner to make her lips look even!

    OY VEY!

No...I think lip plumpers are out of the question for ME!!!!

I looked like I had APE lips!!!

    HAHAHAHHA!

    Thanks for stopping by, Leesa!

I haven't checked my google reader yet, but I'm anxious to see if you posted your Strasbourg photos. Can't wait to see them!

    Have a FABULOUS weekend!!!!!

  9. Good Evening Akelamalu!

    You're SOOOO right!

    That'll teach me!

MY GOD...I can't even eat spicy MEXICAN food without having my mouth catch fire. Anything HOT and me don't mix!

    I'm such a delicate flower!

    Tee, hee!

Yes, my friend...I had a WONDERFUL Christmas Day and hope that you and your family did too!

Gosh...I hated going back to work today!!

Thanks for dropping by and have a continued MERRY weekend!

  10. Hola Miss Jones!

    OMG...you're so funny!

There's nothing like a little natural "lip plumping" from SMOOCHING isn't there? That's the BEST kind!

    Tee, hee!

YES...like I shared with Akelamalu, I'm so sensitive to anything hot or spicy. It must be something in my system that just doesn't agree with it!?!? I can't even stand eating cinnamon candy or gum. And Mexican food??? No way!

I actually saw those two lip plumpers that you mentioned in Sephora. I think they've come a long way since they were first created. Most of them now use NIACIN.

Yes, my friend...having yesterday off was so good for me. I pampered myself like a king. Today wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I think most people are waiting until the weekend to hit the stores again.

Thanks a BUNCH for dropping by, Miss Jones!

And yes...it feels SOOOO wonderful to be back blogging again!

I'll be around to visit everyone soon!

    Enjoy your weekend!

    Ciao bella!

  11. You mean women return cosmetics?! :O You're kidding!

and P.S.: no more experimenting with hoochiemama lips, OK?
We wuv you just the way you are! :)

BTW, what do you think is in the stuff "Bob" advertises on TV?
    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    ReplyDelete
  12. Aloha Debi!

OMG...YES...women return cosmetics ALL THE TIME!!!

    It's very common.

There use to be a time when they weren't allowed to return something once it was opened, but now retailers are so afraid to lose customers, that they allow you to return ANYTHING!

So many women will use a cosmetic for the evening and then return it and get their money back. And the perfect excuse is..."I was allergic to it!"

oohhh and yes...NO MORE EXPERIMENTING WITH HOOCHIEMAMA LIPS!

    I've learned my lesson!

No more HOT LIPS for me!!!

    HAHAHAHAHA!

I don't watch TV, so who is BOB and what does he advertise??? Now you have me curious!

  13. Oh Ron; you are always the first to try a hands on experience !
Over sensitive ? Geez; that can be frightening to have your lips start to feel like an inferno !

You are better off without, but of course, I'm more than sure that you can have that look without using pepper or cinnamon !But if worst comes to worst, take a bit of Tabscco & pucker up, baby !!

BTW- I did a write up on your I'm a star award today ! Just to say :
    Merci !

    Take care my friend xxxxxx

  14. Heya HAWT LIPPZ!!

You told us how your lips felt.. but did the stuff actually work and make your lippz look more full and plump? I'd hate to pay to have a bad turnout on some cosmetic surgery.. I mean really, what''s the point--- if they mess up---? But, their are always risks... Just look at Micky Rourke.... Good example of a job gone bad...

  15. Happy Holidays! I've been busy but always enjoy a minute with Ron and Vent. Today you had me laughing so hard because I too- the cosmetic guru found this plumping business to be a bit much.
I had my "I'll try it" mode which quickly became "WTF is this?". SO not pleasant and for what?
I gave all of the ones that various vendors offered me to try to my mom who found this new item on the market exciting.
    Different strokes for different folks.
Have a nice end of the year.

  16. Bonjour Barbara!!!

    I know...

    ...and what's that saying????

    "Curiosity killed the cat!"

    (or rather my LIPS!)

    Tee, hee!

My mother use to always say to me as a kid, "Why must you ALWAYS have to EXPERIENCE everything for yourself????"

    I guess I'm an experimentor!

I had heard SO MUCH hoopla about lip plumpers and wanted to be able know "first-hand" if they really worked!

    *so it SERVES me right!!!!

You're so VERY welcome about the Star award, Barb! I'll stop by your blog as soon as I finish answering comments, so I can check out your post!!! Can't wait!!

Thanks for dropping by today, my Philadelphia friend!

Hope you and Didier are enjoying your weekend!

  17. Bonjour Leesa!

It's funny that you should be asking that, because after I wrote this post, I thought to myself, "You know, Ron...you never shared about whether or not this stuff actually makes your lips FULLER!"

    So thanks for asking!

    And the answer is NO.

I mean, because they irritate your lips, you may see a slight swelling...but not enough to say FULL!

Maybe some are better than others, but the one I tried did nothing except irritate my lips!!#!?

If you haven't already done so, please click on the Lip Plumper link I included on this post to read more about them. You may find it interesting.

And YES, you're so right, my friend. There is ALWAYS a risk you take with cosmetic surgery. This is why for me personally, I don't think I would ever try it.

Thanks so much for dropping by again, Leesa!

    Have a wonderful Saturday!

    XO

P.S. I really enjoyed your photos of Strasbourg!

  18. HAPPY HOLIDAYS to YOU Brigitte!

    Thanks for stopping by!

It's always a treat seeing ya!

Hope you had a wonderful Holiday!

OMG...THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing your professional feelings about this "lip plumping crap!"

    Isn't it the PITTS?

It's amazing how much "stuff" the beauty industry comes out with, isn't it?

I'm sure they've change the formula thoughout the years, but the one I tried should have been called..."FIRE LIPS!"

    HAHAHAHAHA!

You're right...different stokes for different folks!

And a HAPPY 2009 to you, Brigitte!

  19. Hey Ron,
Is it just me or do those lips really look like the well-toned shoulders-to-biceps parts of body arranged fantastically?

Moreover i really wonder what else can v hear from the cosmetic guys down the line. An anti-cosmetic cream i guess should be next. I am longing for a more helpful product by the way, a tummy sucker i would call it. I hope you get the idea :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. ron, you are hysterical and, as soon as I saw the title of the post, I KNEW you had tried it!! HAHAHAHA...silly man, don't you know these things are for us girls and we're tougher than men ever could be so, if it hurts a little, that's ok...I mean, it's for beauty! and we have the babies , remember?...now try that sometime...!

    on second thought, don't ;)

  21. Howdy Amit!

    Hey...it's GREAT seeing ya, buddy!

    Thanks for stopping by!

Holy shit...your right, those lips DO like well-toned shoulders! That's hysterical...I never even thought of that!!

    Very perceptive of you!

Hey...I honestly think I saw a cosmetic product out there that supposedly reduces excess tummy. However, if it works anything like the lip plumper, I'd say NO WAY!

    HA!

I mean, what will they think of next????

Hope you had a great holiday, Amit!

    Happy New Year to ya!

  22. Hiya Linda!

    Always great seeing ya!

And you are SOOOOOOOO right, Linda!!

WOMEN are much tougher than any MAN when it comes to pain. Just watch a man when he has a simple cold and you'll see what I mean.

OMG...and the whole "having a baby thing" is out of the guestion!!

I think I would be WHINNING for the entire 9 1/2 months!!!

    "oooh...oooh...that hurts!!!"

    HAHAHAHAHAA!

Hope you're having a MARVI weekend, dearest lady!

The weather here has suddenly turned from winter to SUMMER with 65 degrees and 100% humidity!!!

It feels like a YO-YO effect.

    WHERE HAS WINTER GONE???

I'll be by your place in just a little bit!
