Ok, first I need to tell you that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day.

The minute my eyes open in the morning…I’m ravenous.

I’m also one those of those crazy people who can enjoy eating a breakfast meal anytime of the day.

I LOVE breakfast!

During my heavy-duty partying years in Florida, there was nothing more wonderful than going to breakfast totally TRASHED at three o’clock in the morning and eating a big, fat breakfast at either a Denny’s or Perkins.

Food tastes so much better when your stoned, doesn’t it?

Anyway…

About two weeks ago I noticed they were beginning construction on an IHOP Restaurant around the corner from where I live. And the minute I saw it, I started jumping up and down; clapping my hands like a little girl who discovered that Santa brought her an Easy-Bake-Oven for Christmas.

OMG…I was SOOOO excited.

Thoughts of going there and ordering scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, orange juice, and coffee on a Sunday morning was more excitement than I could stand.

I talked about it non-stop at work, “Yippee…did you see they’re opening an IHOP around the corner? Yippee…did you see they’re opening an IHOP around the corner?”

“Yes Ron, we heard you the first 450 times…now SHUT THE FUCK UP!”

They just recently had the grand opening and I haven’t had a chance to go yet, but when I do…I’m sure to have an IHOP roman food orgy.

Yesterday morning while I was going to the drug store to pick up a few things, I had to walk pass the restaurant. And much to surprise I saw someone dressed in a costume that resembled a female pancake.

The poor little thing stood there on the street corner waving her tiny hands at everyone walking by. But it was so sad because not a single soul would wave back at her. In fact, I noticed that everyone avoided making eye contact with her (myself included). I mean, here was this GIANT pancake dressed in a pink ruffled skirt, a hat, and gloves; waving her little heart out as she was being totally ignored.

I know this sounds silly, but I felt sorry for her.

So while I was walking back from the drug store, I promised myself that I would giver her a little wave and say Hello.

And as I did, she was overcome with jubilation and starting waving back at me with such gusto, I thought she was going to fall backwards and hit the trash can.

And when I turned around to get another look at her…

…it was the first time in my life I ever saw a pancake SMILE.

You GO, pancake girl!

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Ron,
Great stuff! When I was in my teens I worked for EatnPark which is similiar to Dennys/Perkins, anyway my manager had asked me to adorn our mascot costume: A GIANT SMILEY FACE COOKIE and being a stupid kid I agreed. I stood out infront of the restaurant for hours being honked at, mulled by children, I was given the finger more times than I could count and you can imagine the comments "I'd eat you" so on and so on! Thanks for bringing back that memory I had buried for so long! Have a great day, hope you get some pancakes of your own soon!

  2. You go, too, Ron! Go get those pancakes inside! I agree about the breakfast importance - you need to get on over there and make some friends! Great to be here again.

  4. Good Morning! I love breakfast too, and I have NO problem having breakfast for dinner, and pancakes are my most favorite! When I was little my parents said I wanted pancakes for EVERY meal.
There are so MANY varieties of pancakes and yummy toppings!
When my children were little I made art shaped pancakes..faces, butterflies, flowers, crescent moons, animals, stars, hearts, etc. :)

So glad you waved to the pancake girl...pancake girls rock! hee,hee

Loved all your latest posts and..

  6. And when you go .... you can say...
I Had Orgasmic Pancakes. The new meaning of IHOP! ;)

We just drove past a farm market recently and a couple girls where on both sides of the street dressed up like something having to do with the market... apples??? I can't remember. But me and hubs waved at them!!!

My Ron loves breakfast. He'll meet friends at the diner as often as possible. I sometimes go but it's so hard for me to decide what to get that he's usually rolling his eyes hoping I don't mess up the whole experience for him. And then if I get an egg, it has to be cooked a very specific way, not your normal sunny side up or scrambled. No, mine has to be one egg, mixed up really good, then fried flat like an omelet and browned as much as possible. They usually get the flat part right but it's never brown enough but I have to just deal with it because I can't embarrass hubs at his morning haunts. And of course I can't say anything when they forget to put fried onions in my taters either. Or when the silverware isn't so sparkly clean that I'm dipping my napkin in the water glass and then wiping off my fork. Or if we're sitting under the a/c vent and I'm feeling a little chilly. Hey, as long as our girl remembers that I drink decaf it's okay.
Yeah, I'm high maintenance when it comes to breakfast. But I guess that's because I don't usually like to eat very much first thing in the morning that I'm more picky. ? Now take me to the never ending pasta bowl dinner at the Olive Garden and everything is just perfect! You just can't f*ck up orecchiette with three cheese marinara. Well, they haven't yet anyway. ;)

This morning.... I made my boys breakfast. French toast with a litte Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla in the egg and sprinkled with cinnamon! Blueberry syrup on top. :)

Have a delightful day! I hope you get to go for breakfast very soon and have a sweet syrupy finger-licking good pancake orgy.

  7. We had an IHop open just around the corner from me about 2 years ago. Last week it closed up.

It was packed in the beginning, standing room only to wait for a table. The last time I was there we were the only table in there. Weird.

So I have to travel a little when I need a pancake fix...

    You are a lucky man.
    :-)

  8. Hi Ron, how's life treating you?
You are making me want some IHOP man, and well....long story short. I worked at an IHOP for.ever and my boss pissed me off really bad one day. I told him to f off, clocked out, went home, and have never been back. That was seven years ago.
I doubt that I am welcome in the building. LOL
When you do get time to try it out, you have GOT to try three things if they are still on the menu.
    1. Country griddle cakes-They are the best pancakes ever. They have cream of wheat in the batter and they are sooooo yummy.
    2. Chocolate pancakes-they are NOT chocolate chip pancakes. They are CHOCOLATE pancakes. KWIM? Super yummy, but very rich and sweet.
    3. Swedish pancakes- they are crepes with lingonberry butter on top. They are fantastic.

I wish I could go get one of each right now. Maybe I need to take a field trip to Philly.

  9. her boyfriend was out there the other day, scaring the pants off my kid.
My kid who worships at the House as often as he can swindle a grownup to take him there.

He was confused about the giant pancake, and asked why there was a giant pancake outside the IHOP.
"because he is trying to get people to come in and eat there", I said.

"that panman is the only thing that could ever make me NOT want to eat there", he said.

    Three year olds are fun.
Life sized pancakes? Not so much

  10. Hi Brndoutw8tress!

...I could count and you can imagine the comments "I'd eat you"...

    OMG...that's TOOOO funny!!

That reminds me of the Sex and the City episode when Miranda passes by a guy dressed as a HUGE hot dog and he says, "EAT ME."

    HAHAHAHHHAHAHA!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing that GREAT story!

    So enjoyed it!

  13. Good Morning Dearest Gypsy-Heart!

OMG, I know...when I worked at William-Sonoma they had an area with pancake molds and I COULD NOT believe all the various and COOL shapes they sold!!

The holiday ones were my FAVS!

I also adore WAFFLES (extra crispy) with TONS of toppings!!

    YUMMY!

Thanks so much for dropping by, my Florida friend!

Hope you're enjoying Fall in Florida!

  14. Howdy Dear Mel!

OMG...I don't know WHY I felt so sorry for her, but I did. She looked so sweet standing there waving those little hands.

And what's really funny, is that on the back of the pancake, it had her name...Bonnie.

You're right...today she may even get a hug!

Thanks for stopping by, dear lady!

    Have a MARVI weekend!

  15. Helloooo Crystal Chick!

    Orgasmic Pancakes!

    bwhahahahahaha!

    That's GREAT, M!

And good for you and Ron waving back at that apple!! I mean, those people stand there for hours on end WAVING and get no response. I think it must be the "actor" in me that feels sorry for them. To me, it's like there doing a little performance and getting no acknowledegment.

OMG...I laughed at your description of how you order in a restaurant. It reminded me of "When Harry Met Sally" and Meg Ryan would order her meal! And I totally know what you mean about the silverware NOT being clean. That is soooo gross when you see residue of someone elses food baked on a fork from the dishwasher - ewwwww!

Ok...I need to drop by your house one morning for breakfast.

... French toast with a litte Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla in the egg and sprinkled with cinnamon! Blueberry syrup on top...

HOLY COW...that sounds HEAVENLY! What a great mom you are!

Yeah...I may go to IHOP this Sunday before going into work.

Thanks bunch for stopping by, neighbor. I always enjoy our chats!

    Have a great one!

  16. Hi Nancy!

    Oh...what a shame!

Ever since this one opened it's been packed. This is the first IHOP I've noticed in Philly, so maybe that's why it's so crowded. For a city, we really don't have that many so called "breakfast restaurants" that I know of.

    Thanks for dropping by, Nancy!

Always great seeing my turtleneck twin here!

    Enjoy your weekend!

  17. OMG....it's Nicole!!!!!!

YAHOOOOOO! This is so ironic because whenever I think of you, you suddenly appear! I miss ya, girl!

And listen, thanks SOOOOO much for letting me know about the three IHOP items you mentioned. They ALL sound delicious, but that #3 sounds EXTRA delicious! When I try them I'll let you know.

We really needed a IHOP in Philly. I'm a big Denny's/Perkins fan, but we don't have them here.

Anyway, thanks so much stopping by and saying HI! I hope you start blogging again soon. I still have you on my google reader!

    Enjoy your weekend!

OMG...how CUTE!! Aren't kids the BEST?

I've not seen the pancake man, only the girl. I noticed she even had a name...Bonnie!

I'm so happy they put an IHOP in our city...we needed one.

Maybe one day we'll see each other in there!!

Thank you for dropping by, neighbor!

Have a great weekend! I hear it's suppose to be incredible weather the next few days.

  23. Oh My God! I was laughing so hard, I sent some spit down my windpipe and then I was choking...and coughing...and spitting. No-one's here to pat my back but the dog.
Thank you SO MUCH for that.
I can just picture you all giddy and over the moon (Dont-cha love that expression?) about the Grand Opening...and I'd be right there beside you, doing our synchronized "roll-and-point, roll-and-point...Cha, cha, cha!"
I cannot believe you weren't camped out there the night before the opening! And the girlie-pancake?! I don't know whether to laugh or cry...which is probably why I'm doing both.
    This is PRICELESS.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hiya Kathryn!

...I can just picture you all giddy and over the moon...

    HAHAHAHAHAHA!

That's the PERFECT expression for how I felt. And OMG...it's been YEARS since I heard that expression, so thanks for saying it!

I can't believe I wasn't camped out there the night before the opening either. It's funny, because every day when I walked to and fro work, I would peek in the windows to see how the construction was going!!

I'll tell ya, Kathryn...it doesn't take much to get me excited about things. I'm like a little kid who gets excited over winning the plastic toy ring out of the gumball machine - HA!

Mucho grassy for dropping by today, dear lady!

Thanks again for the award day. That made me very happy!

    Enjoy your weekend, girl!

    I love breakfast for dinner

and I too did the stoned omelet and home fries at 3 AM, it was just a Brooklyn diner instead of Dennys

I'm so glad you made the pancake smile

  30. I wondered how you could differentiate between a male and a female pancake. I mean how does one tell? Do the girl pancakes have a couple of lumps in the batter? Are the boys made with nuts?

Then I saw the picture and it became clear.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi Dianne!

Don't you just freakin' LOVE breakfast anytime of the day??

I will rarely eat a FULL breakfast in the mornings (eggs, bacon, hash browns) because I'm just too damn lazy to fix it. I usually have cereal, toast, and coffee. But, to go out for breakfast is the BOMB!

    oooo...and a 3AM omelet while "under-the-influence" is like NIRVANA, isn't it?

    YUMMY!

Thanks for dropping by, dear lady!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  41. I think I'd rather live in a box under a bridge than work as a pancake girl. I may be cursed by the Gods for saying that but it's true. I only hope that she is a drama major or an incredibly perky cheerleader who's "a people person" to subject herself to that torture. Actually, any person that willingly dresses up as food, the Staute of Liberty, mascots, etc. needs professional help, IMO.

You've made me crave blueberry pancakes and I've just eaten dinner. You're evil, Ron. I still love you though.
