As you all know, I hate summer.

And I don’t mean dislike, or don’t prefer, or don’t enjoy.

I actually mean the word HATE.

No, wait, allow me to be more specific. I hate what the summer brings….HEAT. The type of heat that makes me feel as though I’m taking a 3 month sauna in HELL.

While most people are out dancing in the streets; exclaiming how wonderful it is to be summer, I am sheltering myself indoors like Count Dracula, peering through closed mini blinds; waiting until 9 p.m. for the sun to finally go down, so I can step out of my cool, dark coffin and begin enjoying my day.

Normally every year, I write one summer bitch post about how much physical torture I'm suffering at this time.

However, I’ve decided to focus on the positive side of summer this year, by sharing two things I love about this season.

#1 - The bountiful and delicious selection of fresh produce.

You should have seen me on Wednesday afternoon in Trader Joe's. I was like a kid in a toy store, grabbing every cold, watery fruit and vegetable I could get my hands on.

I also discovered these adorable little Persian cucumbers that came in a six-pack.

I’ve never seen a cucumber that small before, except on a guy I once dated when I lived in Florida.

*you do the math

By the time I got to the check out counter, I looked like Farmer Ron with my grocery basket filled to the brim with produce.

For the past three days I’ve been predominately eating produce with my veggie burgers and some hummus, because when it’s this hot I have to eat light.

And let’s not even talk about all the H20 I’m drinking to replenish the fluid in body after sweating all day. I feel like a camel storing up water in both my humps.

#2 - Luigi’s Lemon Italian Ice.

I found this product at Super Fresh earlier this month and have become addicted.

It is to DIE FOR!

You have no idea how delicious and thirst-quenching it is on a super hot day. I sometimes enjoy it with lightly salted pretzels.

Delizioso!

So, there you have it folks.

My summer semi-non bitch post, as I’m trying to focus on the positive side of this RETCHED-ASS season.

Didn’t I do fairly good?

However, I still can’t wait for this……….

Wishing you a super COOL weekend everyone!

  1. You already know we're polar (pun intended) opposites on the seasons. We finally got three sunny days here with temps in the low 80's. My nipples have been standing erect with excitement!!!

One of my favorite summertime foods... cantaloupe. I think I could eat about a million of them.

I planted nine tomato plants this year. I don't think anything compares to a tomato picked right off the vine. Yummm

  2. ...You have humps? ;o)

...I love summer but then I love spring. And fall. And winter. I do admit, I don't like summer when it is sweltering, steamy hot and humid and I don't like winter when it is freezing, frigid, deathly cold. As long as the weather doesn't kill anyone I'm pretty happy with it. :o)

...And these tiny cukes you speak of, I must see these! (the ones at Trader Joe's, not the one in Florida;o)

...Stay cool my friend & enjoy your weekend!

    ...Sweet breezy blessings... :o)

  3. I feel your heat-induced pain.

I, too, hate summer; that is, the heat. The relentless sun, the overbearing humidity, the SWEAT!

Hey, I've seen those little cucumbers too. And not at Trader Joe's.

Two things I like about summer are: Working in my garden and being able to run out the door without worrying about coat, hat, boots, etc. Of course, it's usually too hot for me to even GO OUTSIDE, but, you know, in theory.

  4. Goooood Morning Jeff!

"My nipples have been standing erect with excitement!!!"

    Bwhahahahahahahahha!!!!

I know, I know...we're complete opposites on the seasons. In fact, I think I'm the complete opposite of most people.

But, I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad you finally got some sunshine! However, I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous that it's only in the low 80's! Here, it's been in the HIGH 90's with 100% humidity - OY!

OMG...I love cantaloupe too. And honeydew!

Yummmmm....you're so right, there's nothing like a tomato picked right off the vine! BLT sandwiches!!!

Thanks for stopping by, buddy! Enjoy your fabulous weather this weekend!

  5. Good Morning TJ!

"...And these tiny cukes you speak of, I must see these! (the ones at Trader Joe's, not the one in Florida;o)"

Bwhahahahahahahahaha....OMG, that made me HOWL! You are toooooo funny!

Yes, if you're ever in Trader Joe's you'll find them in a plastic container. They are so sweet, tasty, and refreshing. Perfect for a small salad or sandwich.

That's the thing about summer....as long as it's not extreme, I'm ok with it. But, this year it's been sooooooooo extreme and soooooooooo early. I can't believe I use to live in Florida!?! I don't know how I ever stood it.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, dear lady!

You always add such a sweet energy to this blog - THANK YOU!

    Enjoy your weekend!

    Blessings to you too........X

"Hey, I've seen those little cucumbers too. And not at Trader Joe's."

    Bwhahahahahahahaahhaha!

OMG, this guy was so small, I had to use binoculars!

And trust me, I'm not a "size queen."

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!

Yes, I heard it gets VERY hot and humid in Chicago too. And your winters are VERY cold. But, I can take the cold much better than the heat.

You're right...the great thing about summer is that it doesn't take 30 minutes to dress before going outside.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl! ALWAYS so great seeing ya!

    Have a COOL weekend.........X

  7. I've never liked the summer heat much, either; what I do like is spending hours in the pool or on the beach. Unfortunately, when you have 10+ days of 90°F+ heat, poolwater has a much stronger resemblance to bathwater than anything else. Kind of spoils the fun. Almost enough to make me want to leave the south, but then I keep hearing it isn't much better elsewhere.

Size *matters*. You don't even have to be a size queen to say that.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Greetings Lolli!

Welcome...thanks for stopping by and sharing a commment. Nice to meet you!

"Size *matters*. You don't even have to be a size queen to say that."

Bwhahahahahahahaha....OMG, I just spewed my morning coffee while reading that.

    BRAVA!

"Unfortunately, when you have 10+ days of 90°F+ heat, poolwater has a much stronger resemblance to bathwater than anything else."

Yes, exactly! I use to live in Florida, and during the summer months both the pool and ocean water were like taking a bath. I lived in Florida for 20 year and I can honestly say that the summers are just as bad here in the northeast. Especially city heat - ICK!

Please stop by anytime. You're always welcomed!

    Have a grrrrrreat weekend....X

  9. Wow. This is the FIRST time we don't have something in common. I LOVE the summer! The heat/humidity CAN be excessive and annoying - but I love that it's still LIGHT outside at 8pm!

And...I also REALLY LOVE Luigi’s Lemon Real Italian Ices. Soooooooo Goood!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hellooooo my Libra friend, Meleah!

OH NO....I guess we can't be friends anymore.

We found ONE thing NOT in common!!!!

    HAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!

That's ok, my dear friend, I think MOST people feel differently than me on this one.

OMG...don't you just LOVE Luigi's Real Italian Ices??? I've never seen them before until earlier this month. Now, I can't stop eating them!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Meleah!

    ALWAYS a JOY!

    Have a faaaaaaabulous weekend.....X

  11. Hi Ron...I am not a big fan of summer at all. I hate being too hot or too cold. I guess I am like Goldilocks...it needs to be just right. I also love the little persian cucumbers they are so yummy. The only thing I don't like about them is they seem to spoil so quickly. I guess we have to endure the heat to get to the fun winter and fall clothes. Let's just bless the man who invented air conditioning..without him life in the summer months would not be worth living!

    ReplyDelete
  12. No, I didn't know that you hate summer, but guess what? I hate it too! And love Luigi's real Italian ices (which just happen to be kosher, big plus). I'll be thinking of ya as I try to stay cool and dry myself (shvitzing like crazy here in bMore).

    ReplyDelete
  13. Stop wishing the summer away - you know I love it! ;)

You made me laugh about the mini cucumbers. :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. I LOVE Luigi's Italian Ices too. I like the strawberry too but the lemon does seem to satisfy the need more. I'm afraid to say WHAT need... but you get my drift?

I'm with you on the summer thing. I can't stand to be out in the heat. I like early morning before it gets suffocating which is about 30 seconds here in GA. Otherwise I try to stay out of the heat. I'm mostly Irish (you know from Princess Bride sorta like mostly dead?) so I skip straight from the Casper white to the Lobster red burn and peel. Sorta like those peel apart twizzlers only it's my top layers of skin from the rest of my body.

Have a wonderful weekend and try to stay out of the heat.

  15. ron.

    1. interestingly enough i keep my blinds closed all summer. i can't even get my hair done without my makeup melting everywhere (be thankful you don't have THAT to deal with, you'd turn into a REAL BITCH)

    2. i just posted something on my facebook to the effect of "one upside to my birthday today? christmas is in 6 months." I'm with ya on the winter thing. my only complaint is that the christmas season doesn't last long enough.

    3. stop stealing my life.

    ReplyDelete
  16. As much as I love the seasons, yesterday was absolute torture. Good goddess, it was over 100 with the heat index. I was soaked after watering the garden and no, I didn't turn the hose on myself! I should have though! Of course not an hour after I gave the poor shriveled up plants a nice big drink the sky got VERY dark and WOW, what a storm! Our patio table umbrella ended up being taken away by wind and smashed into a neighorbors garage.
So, yeah, I'm with ya... extremes in summer heat and accompanying storms I can do without. And it's only June. OI VEY!
Salted pretzels and lemon water ice.... YUM. I'm thinking this would make a fabu dinner tonight. LOL I don't have the energy to cook anything.

Have a wonderful weekend. Wishing you some cool breezes soon... and a bigger cucumber, should you get back to the dating scene. ;) xo

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hey Ron,

I'll have to admit you did fairly good at coming off positive except when comparing the size of the small cucumber to---well you know where I am going but it was funny anyways I am still laughing :)

I am one of those sick people who love the summer, my aches and pains are not near as bad when the weather is hot, I always tell Cindy I'd rather be sweating than looking for a jacket.

We have already picked both squash and zucchini about three times and I have a few peppers ready to pick now, the tomatoes are not far behind so like you this is a good reason to love this season.

Wonderful Post my Friend and Ho Ho Ho I Hope this summer is short for you and long for us here in Sunny SoCal.

"I’ve never seen a cucumber that small before, except on a guy I once dated when I lived in Florida."

um that HAS to be disappointing. i mean i have nothing to compare to, and i know it's not about the size of the pencil but how one writes his name. hopefully mr. vienna sausage had other talents and i'm glad i'm not a man.

  20. I hope that you're okay 'cause I heard about some crazy-ass weather up there in Philly.

"I also love the little persian cucumbers they are so yummy. The only thing I don't like about them is they seem to spoil so quickly."

YES! I noticed that the last few times I purchased them. I left one in the fridge for about 3 days and when I went to eat it, it looked like a shriveled little grape - HA!

Luckily they're small, so I usually eat TWO at a time.

"I guess we have to endure the heat to get to the fun winter and fall clothes."

You said it, Susie! Even though I hate summer, it makes Fall and Winter all the more BETTER!

    Bwhahahahahahaha...what a GREAT visual!!!

"Our patio table umbrella ended up being taken away by wind and smashed into a neighorbors garage."

OMG...how horrible. Weren't the winds horrendous? And the storm suddenly came out of no where - KA-BAM!

Listen, I think you can find those Italian ices in most grocery stores. I KNOW you'll love them!

Me, too...when it's this hot, I have no energy to anything.

Yes, other than the horrendous heat, I'm great. But, you're right...we've had some crazy-ass weather this summer. A lot of storms. Kinda like the ones you get in Florida during the summer months.

Honestly? I don't know how I ever dealt with the heat in Florida. The last 4-5 years were very hard on me. However, I gotta say...the summer here is equally as bad. Especially living in a city. My only saving grace is that it's for only 3 months.

Yeah, I spoke to my mom yesterday and she said it's exceptionally hot there this year.

Always so great seeing ya, Sis!

  32. And you used to live in Flo-ri-dah... Well, this year I actually seem to be enjoying the heat. Yaknow, I don't mind summer until SOME bugs enter the deal. Some bugs I'm okay with--like the lightening bugs I'm scurrying outside to greet every evening it's allowed. (been a bit stormy...been a LOT stormy with all sorts of cool clouds....) Mosquitos--notsomuch.
I ain't even gonna name the OTHER one. (omgomgomg!)

  41. I'll echo your sentiment on the Italian ice. Coke tastes fantastic when cooled with it. As for the summer humidity, we're lucky to not have to suffer with such things here in San Diego. I did manage to get stuck in North Carolina last summer when my company sent me over there to do some work in the remote data center. I couldn't believe that people voluntarily live in such a climate. It gets oppressively hot, and the humidity saps all strength from you. I was the only crazy person around that was running outdoors during the daytime. I'm sure the locals thought I a bit touched ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hello again Herman!

I'm so disappointed because when I went grocery shopping today, they were ALL OUT OF LUIGI'S ITALIAN ICE! I was DYING to try it with coke! They were running a special 2 for 1, so the shelves were empty. I'll go back in a few days to see if they get some in.

OMG...you live in San Diego? That's suppose to have the most flawless weather, I hear. Never cold or hot - just perfect.

Yes, like North Carolina that's how it was in Florida, and also the summer here in the northeast. The humidity is so oppressive. I literally feel drained after walking outside. This summer is especially bad.

    Thanks for stopping back, buddy!

    ALWAYS great seeing ya!

Stay cool and have a super day!
