I sincerely think I was a squirrel in one of my past lives because…..

a) I identify with the speed in which they move.

2) They’re mischievous. And so am I.

c) Nuts are one of my favorite foods.

Not only do I enjoy their taste, but also I like nuts because they’re crunchy and I enjoy eating crunchy things.

There’s a very cool store here in Philly called, Nuts To You, and every time I walk by and see the sign, my filthy-dirty little mind can’t help but think of the word ‘nuts’ as gonads.

Yeah, I know, I’m a TYPICAL man - always thinking ‘down below.’

Nuts to You offers a wide variety of nuts which can be purchased in bulk. It’s a dream come true for anyone who enjoys nuts because you can get any type of nut possible.

I adore nuts.

(both real nuts and gonads)

Trust me ladies, the way to ANY man’s heart is not through food, but his NUTS.

Come on gentlemen, back me up on this one!

Anyway…..getting back to real nuts.

My favorite nuts are cashews and macadamias because I like their sweetness. I could literally eat them until they come out of my ears. I enjoy them alone, or mixing them into my salads, cereal, and yogurt.

Of course, cashews and macadamias are the most fattening, I know. But I don’t care because everyone is always telling me I’m too thin, and that I need to put some weight on my bones.

However, allow me to quote the late Duchess of Windsor: “You can never be too rich or too thin.”

So, there!

Ironically, I wish you could all see the amount of food I’m capable of ingesting when I sit down to a meal because you would be amazed. I eat like someone who hasn’t had a morsel food in over a year. I also enjoy grazing between my meals. At work, I’m forever munching on granola bars, bananas, or trail mix. I’m ALWAYS hungry. I’ve been this way my whole life.

Nuts are the perfect little snack to satisfy that hunger pang between lunch and dinner. They’re filling, yet won’t spoil a meal.

Nuts are the BOMB!

So, today, in honor of nuts, I would like to start a new holiday....

International Nut Day: A Celebration of Nuts.

  1. Q: What's the difference between beer nuts and deer nuts?
A: Beer nuts are a $1.39, and deer nuts are under a buck.

I'm going to have a nightmare about that picture, Ron. You are certifiably nuts.

  2. Nuts and gonads? LMAO.....Ron, you are just plain nuts.

I like nuts too. They're chock full of nutrition, but as you said, the downside is the fat and calories. So, I eat them in moderation. I also love me some peanut butter. If it wasn't so calorie dense, I could live on it. Just don't tell my wife that I eat it right out of the jar.

  3. Yes! Oooh Ron, it's nice to know you're nuts about nuts. In your case then it doesn't matter that they're fattening. My favourite is the walnut, thinking about a walnut can produce saliva I never knew I had. If ever I see cake with walnut decoration I always eat the nuts first. As for the gonads, thanks for reminding me............

  9. Gooood Morning Valerie~

    Aren't nuts the BOMB?

Yes, I also enjoy walnuts, however I'm so lazy that I like to purchase them already shelled in a bag. Walnuts always remind me of the Thanksgiving Day holidays because my family would always have a HUGE bowl of them sitting on the dinning room table with a nut cracker.

"As for the gonads, thanks for reminding me............"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA! Now I bet you're going to think of that every time you eat a walnut, hu?

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady! Hope you had a great week. I look forward to catching up with you today!

  10. Hey there Ronnie,
Hello my nutty little friend! Boy, now we all know about your real nutty self.
You just had to spill the "bag of nuts", didn't ya??

Bless ya for loving Macadamias!! You know of course, that they come from Hawaii,my old stomping grounds. It was at one time the only place in the 50 US States where they were produced. But, you would have to check that fact for our era...
Cashews,Brazil nuts, walnuts, almonds, etc, etc, I like them all. They are great in salads!!
The buck stops for me with- peanut butter. I no longer like it. I think it is due to the smell and the texture.

As for the gonad variety, of course, you can't be married for as long as I have and not know that those bits count ;)

Great bit about the nut store in Philly. Hey; if you go in, you gotta be a little nuts :)

  12. Good Morning Chrissy~

Thank you. It's great to be back.

    Tee, hee....aren't I a NUT job? I just couldn't resist.

Oooooo....I like pistachios too, especially the beige ones because I hate how the red coloring from the red ones gets all over my fingers.

Thanks for stopping by, girl. Looking forward to catching up with you today.

    Have a super week!

I love the combination of the sweetness and tartness of flavored yogurt, mixed with the flavor of nuts. I've never tried walnuts with my yogurt, but now I'll have to.

And thank you for mentioning almonds because they too are one of my favs. I like getting a bag of raw sliced almonds from Trader Joe's and throwing a handful into my cereal. And yes, my salads too.

  17. A fellow nut lover here. I'm addicted to Blue Diamond smokehouse almonds, but have been known to finish a jar of macadamias by myself!

A favorite childhood memory of mine is being at the mall with my dad. Back then, major dept. stores had a candy/nut dept. and you could buy warm, roasted cashews in a little paper bag. OMG, were those good! Dad's favorite, but he shared with me!

Yes! Yes! I too remember when dept. stores had a candy/nut dept. and you could purchase them WARM - yummy! Also, they use to have carmel popcorn that was warm too. That was one of my father's favorites!

    *Note the British accent*

I adore nuts, and crunchy things too. I used to eat a lot of nut brittle. Do you have that in the US? It's peanuts in a really hard toffee. Not chewy, but very brittle. Hence the name. I'm sure that did my teeth the world of good, not.

BTW, I used to have a little animation of that squirrel picture with music. I don't know the name of the tune, but maybe you do. I just did a search and found it on YouTube so you can see for yourself!

  24. Hey Jay~

First, I just went over to You Tube and watched the squirrel video - HILARIOUS!!!!

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing it! No, I don't know the name of the tune either, but it sounds country western.

"I am now officially GREEN with envy. I am pretty much always hungry (I love nuts too - preferably almonds and walnuts) but unlike you, I am overweight and in danger of reaching whale proportions, if I give in to my appetite as you can. Gee .. is life unfair or what?"

I know, because my mother is the same way. She has to watch everything she eats or she gains weight. Me, on the other hand, have to eat A LOT in order to keep weight ON. During the summer, when it's hot, I don't feel like eating as much so I have a tendency to drop some weight.

It's strange how people are all different, isn't it?

Much thanks for stopping by today, my friend! Always a delight to read your comments.

    Have a great week!

  25. Peanuts yes, nuts no. But I did manage a wincing smile at the last picture. We have plenty of squirrels in our yard and the male squirrels really do have some extra large nuts, of the reproductive kind. We feed them peanuts and the little rascals bury them in the lawn, in the flowerbeds, in the potted plants. I found two sprouting a week ago and decided to keep the peanut plants and recycle the nuts back to the squirrels.

But I think a little more information is in order about your, uh, nut-food preference. We get that you love snacking nuts. But what about chopped nuts in cookies or brownies? Nuts in ice cream? Pecan pie? Peanut brittle? Nut butter? My vote is yes for everything except nuts in ice cream. I'd rather not have crunchy ice cream.

Missed you and thanks for the laugh! xoxo And thanks for the nice comments on my photos. I like that one with the seagull behind the boat riggings too. Used the silhouette setting on the camera. You probably have one too.

  26. I eat a handful of nuts almost everyday. My favorite is the Brazil nut. They also seem to be the most expensive. This is the story of my life.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh, dearheart. While everyone else is attesting to their love of nuts--I'm all about the squirrel!!! Seriously. I'm thinking we both mighta been squirrels in our former life (and still a bit of one in our present ones, thankyouverymuch!). I run around like a madwoman, scurry from place to place and forget what I set out for, bury things and forget where I safely tucked them away at AND I enjoy nuts. Darn good thing--I'm not a meat eater. Don't EVEN make a pun out of that.....*ahem*

Actually, I like Brazilian nuts bestest. (STOP laughing!!!!) Ya know, big ones... (I can hear the snickering--quit it....)

Seemore and Seeless enjoy my company on a regular basis. I think it's the corn, the nuts (peanuts out of the shell, dontchaknow). I roast the raw peanuts before I put 'em out--easier on their digestive track.

    Ok....LAUGH ALL YOU WANT NOW.

    *sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hey Jen~

I know this may sound strange, but I don't think I've ever eaten a Brazil nut?! The next time I'm in Nuts To You, I have to get some and see how they taste.

Yes, I know what you mean about the more 'expensive nuts' because macadamia and cashews are really pricey too.

    But, oh....I LOVE them!

Thanks for stopping by, my friend! Hope you had a swell Monday!

"We have plenty of squirrels in our yard and the male squirrels really do have some extra large nuts, of the reproductive kind."

Yes, I know what you mean because I've seen a few male squirrels in the park with nuts that looked like they should be on a BULL - HAHAHHAHHAHAHA!

"We feed them peanuts and the little rascals bury them in the lawn, in the flowerbeds, in the potted plants. I found two sprouting a week ago and decided to keep the peanut plants and recycle the nuts back to the squirrels."

Oh how funny! Aren't squirrels mischievous little rascals?

Yes, I enjoy peanut brittle, pecan pie, and nut butter - yummy! Yet, like you, I do not like nuts in my ice cream. I'm not much of an ice cream person, but when I do have it I like it plain.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. I missed ya too! I'm looking forward to getting back to blogging this week.

I LOVED your photos!!!!! I need to check and see if my camera has a silhouette setting, because I have no idea. Thanks for mentioning that.

But what would *really* get me excited would be to discover a store that specializes in artichokes. I can imagine it already. It could be called "Nothing But 'Chokes". They've have daily guacamole tastings, tips on de-seeding your 'chokes, and talks on topics such as "It's easy being green" and "Verdant, and bumpy, and beautiful!".

  49. Love the last photo. Too funny!

I'm a big nut lover myself. Almonds and cashews. My favorite candy is Hershey Kisses with almonds in dark chocolate. I can eat a whole bag in one sitting.

OMG...me too! me too! Aren't they the BOMB? Often at work we will buy a big bag and share them between us. Of course, I end up eating the most - HA!

    LOVE me some dark chocolate!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a fantabulous weekend!
