My inspiration for this post came from my dear, longtime blogging friend, Debbie @ Musings by an ND Domer's Mom, who is not only a gifted...
I remember a time after my family moved into a previously-owned home in Florida back in 1973, when my mother, who had impeccable taste, was in the midst of redecorating the master bathroom that she and my father shared. It was a fairly good size bathroom with two sinks and a sunken shower/bath, but had basically white walls and white tiling.
Now before going on, I have to add here that my mother’s talent for decorating was totally natural. She didn’t get her sense of taste and style by reading books or hiring a decorator, she just knew how to put things together. And this not only pertained to how our home was decorated, but also how she dressed, wore her hair and applied makeup.
My mother had a great eye for things, such as color, clothing, interior design, balance and detail.
And to give you an example of just HOW great her eye was, I remember watching her hang a group of pictures on the living room wall one afternoon, in which she never used a measuring tool - she just measured with her eyes. And by god, the grouping came out perfectly spaced and centered!
Also, in both of the homes we owned as a family, she always had inventive and industrial ideas for enlarging spaces by knocking down walls and making two rooms into one.
And my father, in his infinite wisdom, always just said, “Go ahead, Annie, do whatever you want with the house.”
Anyway, getting back to her bathroom…
She told me that she decided to decorate it in the colors of pink and green.
And when I heard that, I thought, “OH MY GOD HAS THIS WOMAN LOST HER MIND???”
Pink and green TOGETHER????
I couldn’t fathom it because they seemed like two odd colors to marry. Back in the '70s, all I was ever interested in was wearing clothing and decorating my own room in earth-tone colors (like the kids on The Brady Bunch). Yet, it was almost as if my mother was some kind of style visionary because now you see these colors together quite often.
I was a little apprehensive about how I would react when she finished decorating the bathroom.
But as I closely observed, she gradually accented the white bathroom with towels, wash cloths, rugs, soaps dishes, a hanging light fixture, and small pieces of artwork on the walls; all in varying hues of pink and green.
And I've gotta tell ya folks, when I looked at the bathroom in its completion, it was faaaaaaabulous!
You GO, girl!
So in honor of my beloved mother, I walked around the city over these past two weeks and took photographs of PINK and GREEN. And what’s really funny is that many of these of photos are of nature, so I realize that pink and green are naturally meant to go together.
So you see, my mother did have a natural talent - she simply followed her nature instinct.
Some of these photos contain both colors; others are separate.
Please enjoy….
*And to my mother: I think of YOU whenever I see these two colors…x
This last photo is absent of any pink, but it was one of the last photographs I took yesterday while walking past a flower vendor on the street and had to share it.
Doesn't a sunflower make you want to just smile?
Have a SMILING weekend everyone!
X
