As you know, I love sweets.

And as you also know from a previous post, I love the combination of dark chocolate and peppermint. So you can imagine how excited I got when one of the girls I work with brought in a homemade, sweet Christmas treat, which she gave to several of her fellow-employees. In fact, I got so excited when she handed it to me, that I started jumping and down like a kangaroo on a pogo stick. You would have sworn she had just handed me a picture of Tom Ford with an invitation to meet him for a glass of wine on New Year’s Eve at the Plaza Hotel in New York City.

Talk about a SWEET treat…

*note: I have a wobbly knee weakness for dark hair, dark eyes, and a scruffy face.

Um, yes, anyway…

Actually, the sweet treat I’m referring to is this…

It was a dark chocolate cupcake in a mason jar. How faaabulous is that?

And the best part is that the cupcake was topped with a peppermint ganache and candy cane pieces.

TO DIE FOR!!!!

This was perhaps one of THE most delicious sweet treats I tasted throughout the holiday season. It was PURE heaven!

I ate it over a period of four days because I wanted it to last. Plus, I knew it probably had about 6,000 grams of sugar in it, so I didn't want to OD and have to call 911-Sugar Shock.

Here, take a look at me enjoying it…

But I guess you’re all wondering if I had to choose between receiving a cupcake like this, or having a date with Tom Ford for a glass of wine on New Year’s Eve, which would I pick?

Um…let me think about that for a minute.

*one second later*

Yup, definitely the latter…

Wishing you a Sweet and Happy New Year everyone!
Looking forward to blogging with y'all in 2014.
Cheers and much X

Yep, I remember those feelings... lol.

Love the pictures of you scoffing the sweet stuff... those specs held my attention somewhat. I'm afraid I indulged in chocolate far more than I should but hey it was Christmas, we're allowed to indulge at that time of year.

Happy New Year to you, Ron, and a peaceful one xx

  2. Hey, Ron! I get the feeling you really enjoyed that cupcake!

It looks delicious and those Christmas tree shades do wonders for you! Make sure you were them on your date with Tom Ford!

You'll really ring in the New Year!

Have a tremendous 2014, buddy! Thanks for all the great posts and all the kind, supportive comments.

Looking forward to more of the same in the New Year!

  3. You certainly look like you're enjoying that Ron, I'm afraid it makes my teeth ache just looking at it. I don't eat sweets at all, save the occasional plain chocolate digestive biscuit or two.
Not aware of Tom Ford, but he definitely looks like a charming chap to share a new year eggnog with.
Here's hoping you get your wish.

  4. Ron, what a wonderful post to read on Monday morning. I adore Tom Ford and agree with you. SWEET treat! Such a handsome man. I like dark eyes and dark hair as well. The photos of you eating that chocolate cupcake, wearing those sunglasses are hysterical! You never fail to entertain us.

Have a Happy New Year, Ron. And I looking forward to reading your blog in 2014. Have a wonderful week xo

"Yep, I remember those feelings... lol."

HAHAHHAHAHA! There is something about dark hair with dark eyes that makes we SWOON!

"Love the pictures of you scoffing the sweet stuff... those specs held my attention somewhat."

Thank you. A woman I work with gave me those sunglasses about two weeks ago because she knows how much I love crazy stuff. I actually WORE them at work one day!

" I'm afraid I indulged in chocolate far more than I should but hey it was Christmas, we're allowed to indulge at that time of year."

I agree! And I indulged A LOT this year. But hey, it was Christmas, right?

Much thanks for stopping by, dear lady. Have a lovely week and Happy New Year to you and Joe!

" get the feeling you really enjoyed that cupcake!"

HA! Yeah, can you tell? OMG...it was SO GOOD!

"and those Christmas tree shades do wonders for you! Make sure you were them on your date with Tom Ford!"

HAHAHHAHAHAHA! No, I don't think I'll wear them when I meet Tom because I don't SCARE him away.

  8. Hey there Dale!

    OMG....it was sooooooooo DELICIOUS!

" I don't eat sweets at all, save the occasional plain chocolate digestive biscuit or two."

Good for you, buddy. I really have to watch how much sweets I eat because I'm addicted. If I could live ONLY on sweets, I would. My father was the same way.

"Not aware of Tom Ford, but he definitely looks like a charming chap to share a new year eggnog with."

He's a clothing designer, fragrance designer, and makeup designer here in the States. He first started as a designer for Gucci, and then branch off to his own. Very talented man!

Much thanks for stopping by, Dale. Wishing you and Elaine a Happy New Year! I look forward to blogging with you in 2014!

Hubba-hubba! Isn't he handsome? I've seen several interviews with him and can listen to him talk for hours. He's a very introspective man. Deep.

HA! Thank you! One of the ladies I work with gave them to me about two weeks ago. I actually worn them at work!

"What a lovely gift your colleague gave you and all the better for her having actually made it herself."

I agree! I was so impressed that she made it herself because it must have taken so much time to make them. And I was so touched that she gave me one.

"You never know your wish may come true, I hope it does I'm sure that would make your year!"

  11. What a SWEET colleague you have! That cupcake in a Mason jar looks decadent and delicious -- wish you'd included the recipe so we could try making some for ourselves (instead of simply imagining what it must taste like!)

Yes, it was SO decadent! That's why I had to eat it in small increments. You know, I never even thought to ask her for the recipe. However, I did see some online when I Google "peppermint ganache chocolate cupcake."

Thanks for stopping by, my friend. Happy New Year to you! All the best in 2014!

  13. Ron, the sight of you in those glasses eating that cupcake made me laugh out loud. You're a trip! How did you take those pictures of yourself?

One of my favorite candies are those York Peppermint Patties, so I know I would have enjoyed that cupcake too!

I took those photographs by placing my camera on the widow sill and on top of a book, and then snapped the camera with my left hand. I actually should have used the timer on my camera but I've never tried it yet.

"One of my favorite candies are those York Peppermint Patties, so I know I would have enjoyed that cupcake too!"

Mine too! And that's exactly what this cupcake tasted like, a York Peppermint Patty!

  33. That reminds me of one of my greatest disappointments, with an edible Christmas present. It was a box of home made chocolates, that looked absolutely delicious. Unfortunately they tasted absolutely foul and I had to throw them away! I'm sure she used cooking chocolate that must have been years out of date. I can't understand why somebody would go to so much bother making all those home made chocolates and not use fresh ingredients! She made them for the whole church and I bet they all ended up in the trash! Your gift looks very scrumptious though :)

Once I made cranberry-walnut breads for my sons' daycare worker. A couple of weeks later one of them said, "Thank you for the fruit cake." I said, "Fruitcake?! I like you too much to give you fruitcake! You threw it away without checking it, didn't you?" She was disappointed to find out what she'd tossed!
