Post updates by email:

Well, this is like the most surprising thing that has ever happened to me while searching for movie photos to add to a post.

I had originally planned on posting just a movie review today, sharing my admiration for Robin Williams in his dazzling portrayal of Euphegenia Doubtfire in the hilarious movie, Mrs. Doubtfire.

Yet when this surprising thing happened to me on Saturday night, I decided to include it within this post.

Now I have say that I’m not normally a HUGE Robin Williams fan when it comes to his comedies. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s an extremely gifted actor, it's just that I prefer him in more dramatic roles because there is something manic about his energy that exhausts me whenever I watch him in most comedies.

HOWEVER…

There is one comedy I adore him in, where I feel that his manic energy is balanced with some really beautiful low-keyed dramatic acting. For being a comedy, Mrs. Doubtfire has many quiet and serious moments as well. And I love the ending because it isn't a totally happily ever after conclusion - it leaves you wondering.

I think Robin Williams did an amazing job portraying Mrs. Doubtfire because you actually forget that she is a he and believe you're watching an elderly woman. And not only because of the brilliant makeup, hair and costumes, but also his voice and mannerisms are truly stellar. To me, he IS Mrs. Doubtfire because he encompassed the character so fully - mind, body and spirit.

Even to this very day whenever I watch this film, I laugh and am touched just as much as I did and was, seeing it the first time.

Robin Williams ROCKS in this film!

Now, getting back to the surprising thing that happened to me...

As I was doing a Google search for Mrs. Doubtfire, I clicked on the images link and began scrolling down the page, when I spotted this photo…

So I clicked on it and suddenly saw this…

Notice the group of thumbnail photographs on the right. Do you see a familiar face?

Yes....it's ME!

So I clicked on the photo and saw this...

This was a photograph I took of myself for a post I shared TWO years ago on this blog.

OMG...I was mystified by how that photo got on the same Google search for Mrs. Doubtfire, and at the same time HORRIFIED that it was THAT photo! I can't believe I even put that photograph on this blog, let alone forgot it would be out there on the Internet for ETERNITY.

But still, I guess I should be flattered and honored that I'm on the Google search for images of Mrs. Doubtfire. I mean, yeah, I can see the similarities, can't you?

*tee, hee*

So perhaps if they ever make a Mrs. Doubtfire Part 2, Hollywood will call and ask if I'm interested in being Robin William's stand-in.

Nah...because this photo makes me look like Mrs. Doubtfire if she were a MANATEE.

Have a marvi Monday, y'all!

  1. Like you, I tend to prefer Robin Williams' more dramatic roles myself. Kind of like Bill Murray, I think he is a gifted actor who was for too long pegged as "just a comedian." I think what both actors have in common, though, is something you have in abundance: absolute confidence in yourself as a person! That is not something very many people have, but it is something that I wish I possessed.

But more to the point: hilarious! If they ever make a sequel, maybe they will give you a call if Robin's asking price is too high.

  2. Well, are you interested in being a stand-in...haha. I'm puzzled, Ron. It just goes to show we can never trust the internet to safeguard our privacy. I'm trying to decide what I would have put in the search engine to come up with both photos.... stuff on face was the only thing that came to mind whaaaaaaa. It's a good job you have a sense of humour, I would have been flaming by now!

As for Robin Williams, I liked him in Mrs D but can't remember seeing him in anything else. I keep getting him mixed up with our Robbie Williams, or should that be the other way round..lol.

Enjoy your week and don't do anything rash, you never know who''s looking!!!!

  3. I've never seen Mrs Doubfire maybe it's because I tend to stay away from certain types of comedy but those pictures look absolutely hilarious. You must have had a right shock noticing your own picture on Google, ha ha ha. I wonder if you walked down the streets with that stuff on your face, if you'll be recognised too, ha ha ha. You'll never know unless you try.

  4. I liked that movie, too. And it's been interesting to watch Robin Williams take on darker roles as he's aged.

That's absolutely hysterical that your photo popped up in the search. Once I was looking for something unrelated to skinny-dipping (I promise!) and a photo from my blog popped up of me skinny dipping in the Tasman Sea. It was a discrete photo - from the back, water up almost to my waist - but I almost choked when I saw it! Once you've published something, you lose all control over it.

  5. I love that movie. In fact I grew to love Mrs Doubtfire and was a little sad she had to become a 'he' again.

I am amazed that your photo would come up in a Google search. That's so funny! Makes me a bit glad I keep photos of myself to a very limited few ;)

  6. That is freaky that you turned up in that google search! I turned off google searchability when I set up my blog, just for that reason. Damn google!

  7. I discovered not long ago that Google will not let you delete pictures you have uploaded. I'm sure they, like Facebook and most if not all other internet companies share and sell our photos.

It does say a huge amount about your creative ability to have your picture shown with Robin Williams' pictures. You just might get a call one of these days!

  8. That is hilarious! I think you're just as funny as Robin Williams. He did a great job as Mrs. Doubtfire...what a funny movie. It was one of those movies my kids watched over and over and over as children! I watched The Butler the other night and he played Eisenhower.

  9. Think I'll take your version Ron, never did like that film.
Only really like Williams when he's doing stand-up and when he plays against type, like One Hour Photo and Insomnia.

  10. Hey there Nathaniel!

"Kind of like Bill Murray, I think he is a gifted actor who was for too long pegged as "just a comedian."

Yes! Yes! Yes! I agree! And it's ironic you mentioned Bill Murray because I was talking about him with someone on the phone last night, and how he was one of the original SNL cast members. He's a very funny guy, but he's also a damn good dramatic actor as well.

"That is not something very many people have, but it is something that I wish I possessed."

I think confidence comes with life. I was a extremely insecure person when I was younger. And I still do have insecurities and fears. However, I've learned to be confident even when I fear something because I would rather walk through the fear than allow it to paralyze me.

" If they ever make a sequel, maybe they will give you a call if Robin's asking price is too high."

    HA! You think?

Do you know what's odd though? All I typed in was "Mrs. Doubtfire" and the picture showed up in the images search. And it's not like I tagged the photo with keywords before I published that post two years ago - it just showed up. Isn't that strange?

"I keep getting him mixed up with our Robbie Williams, or should that be the other way round..lol."

HA! I LOVE Robbie Williams! I really enjoyed him in the movie, " Mrs.Henderson Presents" with Judi Dench. Great film!

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have a faaaabulous week!

"I've never seen Mrs Doubfire maybe it's because I tend to stay away from certain types of comedy but those pictures look absolutely hilarious."

As I shared, I'm not a huge fan of Robin Williams in comedies, however, this one was truly brilliant! He does a lot ad-libbing in this film, which is hysterical. It amazes me how fast he can think on his feet.

"I wonder if you walked down the streets with that stuff on your face, if you'll be recognised too, ha ha ha. You'll never know unless you try."

Yes, I agree! And I love him in those darker roles. He's a very versatile actor! And one of my favorite drama's he was ever in is "Awakenings" with Robert De Niro. Love that film.

"I was looking for something unrelated to skinny-dipping (I promise!) and a photo from my blog popped up of me skinny dipping in the Tasman Sea. It was a discrete photo - from the back, water up almost to my waist - but I almost choked when I saw it!"

Thank you so much for mentioning that film, Suzi, because I haven't seen it yet but heard GREAT things about it. And I don't think I knew that Robin Williams was in it. I have to see if I can find a used copy at FYI this week.

  19. Hi there Ronnie! I just wanted to start by letting you know I first viewed this post in Firefox and it would not give me the option to comment. I had to switch to Internet Explorer to comment. Just thought it was odd...Anywho...
I think the fact that YOUR PHOTO popped up for Mrs. Doubtfire is hilarious and actually kinda perfect. You are such a funny person and you are able to encompass all different personalities on your blog i.e; funny, serious, sweet, angry...that you are kinda just like Robin Williams when he plays Mrs. Doubtfire. Pretty funny and awesome my friend!

  20. Hey there Rob!

HA! Thanks, buddy :) I made that photo over at Face In Hole. You can make all sorts of funny things over on that site.

"You would be a GREAT Mrs. Doubtfire--even better than the manatee,"

    HAHAHAHAHA! Ya, think?

"And you know I've heard several people make the very same complaint about Robin Williams' manic energy--and they also use the word "manic." So it ain't just you, buddy."

Yes, and I work with a lady who shares the same feeling. She likes him, but only in certain roles. And not in most comedies.

"But he truly is a gifted actor and I had the pleasure of seeing him on Broadway a few years back. The show wasn't that good, frankly, but Robin Williams really commanded the stage."

Oh how cool! You got to see him LIVE? And I bet he was faaaaaabulous because he started as a stand-up, performing live, so I bet it DOES know how to command the stage! Live performing is not easy, but it's oh so rewarding.

Much thanks for stopping by, buddy. Have a SUPA' week!

"My favorite part is when he and Pierce Brosnan are in the restaurant talking about the vibrator. Hysterical!"

Bwhahahahhaahaha! OMG yes...that part was sooooooo hysterical! And it was Pierce Brosnan's reactions to what he was saying that made the scene extra funny!

"I think Robin Williams is a gifted actor too, but am more impressed with his dramatic ability."

    Me as well.

Thank you so much for letting me know that. Something has been going on with Disqus for the past week, where some people are not able to comment using certain browsers (like Firefox). And it seems to be hit or miss. Some people have no problem, but others do. Sorry about that. Hopefully they're working on fixing it. Anyway, glad you were able to comment using IE. I only use Chrome, which seems to work best with Disqus.

  23. How funny! A friend of mine was doing a search for wine racks at IKEA and came across one of MY blog posts yesterday! What are the odds?

My favorite sitcom as a kid was Mork & Mindy. I had a lunchbox and everything. I've always been a fan of Robin Williams, though I agree that he is especially good in dramatic roles...surprisingly. He did a great job in Insomnia with Al Pacino, and One Hour Photo. And I believe he won an Oscar for Good Will Hunting. Not bad for a guy who started out with a silly little catchphrase. Nanu, nanu!

  24. "Nah...because this photo makes me look like Mrs. Doubtfire if she were a MANATEE."

    ROFLMAO!

I saw this film only once and remember how much I laughed, so I need to watch it again. Robin Williams is a genius. I like him in most comedies but am even more in awe at his dramatic ability. He's one of those actors who can crossover and do both. He's also great at being scary.

    Hilarious post, dude!

Yes! Mork and Mindy! God, I remember watching that like it was yesterday. And it was that show I think, which really launched his career into movies.

OMG...you kidding? DRATS! I should have saved the exact link, but didn't. I took several screen shots on Saturday night and then cropped them to fit my blog post. That's odd though, because all I did was type in Mrs. Doubtfire and then clicked on "images" and it showed up as soon as I clicked on that photo of Robin Williams.

  28. Ron, you make me laugh -- thank you!

I, too, love Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire -- what an extraordinary talent he has. Yes, the costumes and makeup helped immensely, but he was the one who had to get down the mannerisms, voice inflection, etc. of an elderly woman.

That photo of you was taken two years ago?? Well, golly, you haven't aged at all -- in fact, you've only improved, like a fine wine. Congrats!

Hahahahahah! I chose a good time to get back to you, didn't I?

I think you make a GREAT Mrs (Ron) Doubtfire. But yes, I do see the ever-so-slight resemblance to a manatee. It's the gentle mournful eyes, the beatific smile and ... well yes, the huge conk.

But now I want to see a photo of Robin Williams with a fish-eye lens effect. And I want to see it next to yours.

  32. Ron, Mrs. Doubtfire is a movie I can watch over and over too, and still laugh my ass off. And I think Rob Williams should have won the Oscar that year! I can take him in small dosages when it comes to his comedies because he does have a manic energy about him. I loved him in Goodwill Hunting, Insomnia, and Dead Poets Society.

What's amazing is that when he was first auditioning for Mork & Mindy, the producers asked him how an alien would sit down. Robin Williams immediately went over to a chair and did a headstand in it. And I have to say that those nine days were some of the most beautiful moments I had with my father because he and I got to have closure on certain things. We also bonded in a way we never had before. We touched and kissed, and told each other, “I love you.” ------- Oh, Ron! Your story has touched me so deeply. And now I am totally sobbing, because I had a similar experience too, with both Poppa Sye and Gramma Evelyn.

"I said, “It’s OK Dad, you can go. And know that you were a wonderful father. You gave me everything I needed as your son. And I’m proud that you were my father. I love ya, Dad. Just let yourself go and don’t hang on for us please, because we’ll be OK. We love ya, Dad. Be at peace.” ------- PASS THE TISSUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

photo! I can't believe I even put that photograph on this blog, let
alone forgot it would be out there on the Internet for ETERNITY."

Meleah, I remember so clearly when I read about the passing of both Poppa Sye and Gramma Evelyn on you blog, and being so affected by that because I felt as though I knew them so well through your writing.

And I miss your stories about them because they were such incredibly "special" people who (even though I never met them in person) loved them both.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Hope all went at the allergist last week.

  52. HA! I know, can you BELIEVE that, Meleah?

    I was shocked to shit!

And I still, for the life of me, can't figure out HOW that photo got on that Google search!?!?

    Who knew?!?

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl! Have a super week!

  53. I just gotta let you know...I'da freaked out. Seriously...I'da been investigating and digging and trying to figure out how in the world my photo got tagged to it. I've narrowed down the settings to browsers, emails, 'clouds', photo storage sites, anything that allows a feed or stream....I just don't want it. I dump cookies, turn off extensions and really don't browse the world wide web like I used to. I don't have time and I'm not thrilled about suddenly discovering malware I didn't invite.
I soooo woulda freaked out. LOL

I remember Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldbergand Billy Crystal as being unstoppable anytime they were near each other. And you really had to be manic to keep up with 'em. And a bit schizo. LOL. I appreciated the energy and the ability to wing your way through improv...but holy cow... I prefer his dramatic films, even if they do make me weepy. But I do like Mrs. Doubtfire....I think the kiddos watched that one over and over and over until they wore out the VCR.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! I know Mel, I did freak out a bit at first because I couldn't figure out HOW that photo got included in that particular movie search. And still can't figure it out!? Oh well, at least it's associated with a movie I LOVE, right?

"I remember Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldbergand Billy Crystal as being unstoppable anytime they were near each other."

Yup to all of those you mentioned! In fact, I just saw Billy Crystal in a movie not too long ago. I love him! And Whoopi as well!

And me too, I much prefer Robin Williams in more dramatic roles. And he's VERY good at them too!

"But I do like Mrs. Doubtfire....I think the kiddos watched that one over and over and over until they wore out the VCR."

    Don't ya LOVE that movie?

Much thanks for stopping by, dear lady. Have a FANtabulous week!

  55. Ron, I just stopped back to read comments and also watched the Mrs. Doubtfire (recut) trailer. I loved it because it was like watching a trailer for a completely different movie. That was great!

  56. HA! Robert, wasn't that recut trailer faaaaabulous? It gave a whole other take to the movie. Almost like a PSYCHO Mrs. Doubtfire!!!

I know, isn't that hilarious? Who knew?!?!?! Maybe it's an omen that I'm going to be the next Mrs. Doubtfire - HA!

And...I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the video clip you shared. It was awesome because it gave a whole other 'take' on that movie and turned it into a suspense thriller! And no, I had never seen it before, so thanks for sharing it!

Have a super week, girl. And thanks for stopping by!

    Mrs. Doubtfire

  67. Ron, this is hilarious! That picture of you as Mrs. Doubtfire with the manatee made me laugh out loud. And how funny your photo showed up in the search for this movie. I remember that post too!

I love Mrs. Doubtfire. My favorite part is when he and Pierce Brosnan are in the restaurant talking about the vibrator. Hysterical!

I think Robin Williams is a gifted actor too, but am more impressed with his dramatic ability.

Thank you for making me laugh this morning, Ron. Have a wonderful week x

  68. Ahh, you're killing me, Ron! This post is a hoot! I love that photo of you and I think it would make a hell of a t-shirt!

Don't sell yourself short. You would be a GREAT Mrs. Doubtfire--even better than the manatee,

Now I have to confess that I never saw the movie, but I'll be sure to check it out, seeing as how I respect your opinion so much.

And you know I've heard several people make the very same complaint about Robin Williams' manic energy--and they also use the word "manic." So it ain't just you, buddy.

But he truly is a gifted actor and I had the pleasure of seeing him on Broadway a few years back. The show wasn't that good, frankly, but Robin Williams really commanded the stage.

Thanks for the great post and the Monday morning laugh! It was more fun than a barrel of manatees!

    Take care, buddy!

  69. This brought back sad memories for me Ron. I did this with both my Mum and Dad whilst holding their hand when they passed away. Although it was a terribly sad time I'm glad I was there for them at the end and was able to tell them it was OK to go and how much I loved them. x

Oh and I agree with you, whilst they may not be able to hear with their ears they can hear with their soul. x

  70. I am DYING!!! OMG!!! I immediately rushed over to google to recreate it... but I didn't get your picture. DARN! I was gonna screen shot it and post it! That is so funny and so awesome.... who knew?

What you wrote about Robin Williams... him being exhausting... you are so right...that is a perfect way to describe him. I tell you what though.... he was incredible in Garp. I LOVED him in that... that is such a sad movie.. makes me cry when I watch it.

Robin Williams is truly talented... but on stage or on a talk show, exhausting... coke does funny things to you. ha ha!

(And I would only share this with you... when I wrote "coke does funny things to you" I did a typo and wrote "cock does funny things to you." AH HA HAHAHAHHAAAAAAAAAAAA

  72. Hey Chrissy!

After Katherine shared her post on Tuesday, I was suddenly filled with such strong memories, recalling that time with my father, that I felt the desire to share it because it was such a bittersweet experience. Yet, the 'sweet' is what I recall the most.

"he kept asking the nurse where we were and when we were coming back. He passed away less than an hour after we came back. He went peacefully surrounded by everyone he loved. Even Bernie was there!"

    *teary-eyed*

That is sooooooooo wonderful Chrissy! And I know how close you were to your father, so I'm so happy that you were there with him when he passed. And OMG...Bernie was there too!!!

Thanks so much for stopping and sharing on this post, girl. Thank you....X

    Have a super weekend!

X to you and the gang!

  73. Sobbing reading this. You tell the story of your father's last moments so beautifully. My father held on as well his last day. We had gone home briefly and he kept asking the nurse where we were and when we were coming back. He passed away less than an hour after we came back. He went peacefully surrounded by everyone he loved. Even Bernie was there!

  74. Hiya Mel!

"What amazing sharing from the folks who visited here......more tears, but such displays of honour for the people they loved so well."

Yes! That's what moved me the most about this post - the sharing everyone has done in their comments. That's why I love comments, because it opens the floor for everyone to share their experiences.

"We share some similar experiences. I have vivid memories of my mothers passing when I was 5, I wasn't present but grew up believing had I been -- somehow things might have been different."

Yes, that's right...you and had VERY similar experiences at almost the same age. And it's ironic because she and I had the same closeness that my stepmother and I had. And yet even though I was very young when she passed away, we had such a powerful "soul connection" that I could always feel her with me, guiding me through the grief process.

" I knew different and made a point to go back to the room and hug and kiss her forehead in her then resting state. I knew that would be our last time together...and it was. She passed later that night."

Aw Mel, I am so glad you had that moment with her.

"I never believed I was strong enough. But you DO dig a little deeper. And it becomes less about you and more about them until you find it in you to let go...somehow that frees two souls, yours and theirs."

You are sooooooooooooo right about that! It becomes less about you and more about them. And in letting go, it frees you both.

Much thanks for stopping by, dear lady. And thank you for your comment!

  75. I love the way you tell a story because you pick out the heart. You can tell a story in so few words yet it's all fully there.

My father had to do this with his father. And it's just like you said, my grandfather was holding on until he got confirmation that his family would be okay. My father spoke to his dad, and a few hours later he passed. I was not there at the time, but my father said that my grandfather died very peacefully.

    Beautiful post, Ron.

  76. Dammit, Ron. I could lie and say those tears in my eyes are from cutting onions, but it's 9 AM and I'm at work. I don't think I'd be fooling anybody.

I can't imagine how unbelievably difficult this would be. I am thankful every day that my parents are, at the moment anyway, both in very good health as they rapidly approach 70. Someday I may be in this situation, and I can only hope I have the strength and courage to act similarly.

On a cheerier note, we're getting all kinds of snow out here!! Have a great weekend.

  77. I did a similar thing with my Mother although she asked me, in a rare clear moment, if I forgave her. There was so much abuse and neglect yet I didn't hesitate for a second to tell her I did. I have never once regretted that decision and often look back to it when I think/feel that I'm not a kind person. It was an act of kindness for both of us.
She died the next day. Funny, she died during the only 30 minutes she was alone. I had gone to check on Jeffrey, he was a little one then, and my brother hadn't arrived yet.
    Love ya Ron
Me and the girls and the kitties all send hugs

  79. Ron, this thoughtful remembrance makes me think - this is how it should be. Too often we fight against things we cannot change. There is a time for fighting and a time for acceptance. You had the wisdom to know which was right for time.

  80. It's difficult to say it's ok to go, but we're being selfish when we hold back those words. I think when we watch someone suffer it makes it easier to say because we know they are lingering in pain and waiting for us to let them know it's ok to go.

  81. Hey there Rob!

Writing this post was so therapeutic for me because I sat here crying. But it was a good cry because that time I had with my father was such a beautiful experience, I wouldn't have traded it for anything in the world because our love was so evident.

"She was worried, but I told her would find the strength to do it.

You find that strength because you have to find it, because life gives you no choice whatsoever. And you so you dig a little deeper and you find yourself doing things you never thought you could."

Exactly. You do find the strength. And it becomes something that you WANT to do.

Much thanks for stopping by, buddy. Have a grrrrrrrrreat weekend!

  82. I am so envious of you, my friend, for having the opportunity to say goodbye to both your Mom and Dad. As it should be. I wasn't that fortunate. However, I was present just before my aunt's passing and I could see she hadn't got long on this earth. I talked to her like you talked to your Dad, holding her hand and telling her that Uncle Ted was waiting for her. She went during the night and I knew she had gone. As true as I sit here typing I heard her say goodbye.

Gosh, the emotions are going now... I think I'll have to write about it. Hope you have a peaceful weekend xx
