My inspiration for this post came from my dear, longtime blogging friend, Debbie @ Musings by an ND Domer's Mom, who is not only a gifted...
Hello again, folks!
I hope you all had a super last week and that this post finds you well and enjoying the month of September so far.
Holy shit, where did this past week go? For me it seemed to fly by. I will most likely share more about how my training went in a future post, but I will tell you now that it went well. However, by the end of the second day my brain was fried from SO MUCH information. And I’m very glad that I took a week to primarily focus on my job and leave time for some R&R because I worked a lot of extra hours, so it was a delight to come home at night and just decompress with a nice hot shower, dinner, a movie, and a glass of red wine. Yet, it felt so strange to not hop online and blog as I usually do.
Wednesday, when I sat down to write a post for today, it suddenly dawned on me that I would be publishing it on almost the exact date (Sept. 13th) that this blog was born, in 2007.
And talk about time flying by! I can hardly believe that seven years have passed since I wrote my very first post here, because it seems like yesterday when I hit that publish button for the first time.
I don’t know about you but when I began this blog, I had no idea what I was doing or what I would exactly write about or even how far it would take me. Not to mention that only a year and a half before, I had just gotten online (using dial-up service), so I was a virgin when it came to the Internet. Hell, I didn't even know how to send an email when I first got online.
Throughout these seven years this blog has gone through so many changes. And I finally came to the conclusion that that’s what a blog is supposed to do…change as we change. When I look back on where this blog started to where it’s traveled over the years, I can see that the topics have reflected where I was at a particular time in my life and what my thoughts, feelings, and interests were.
It’s odd, because you start a blog believing that you can direct where it’s going. But then you realize that the blog takes on a life of its own and directs you where it wants to go.
And I think that’s what blogging has taught me the most. It’s a metaphor. Life is not meant to stand still, it’s meant to move forward, just like a blog does with its post updates. And like life, a blog goes down unexpected paths.
This blog has been a space where I have grown not only in my desire to become a better writer, but also my desire to become a better communicator. It’s taught me so much about how to express my thoughts and feelings, and do it in a way that is open, honest, and conscious. And amazingly enough, it’s made me a better communicator in my life offline.
Blogging has taught me to ‘pause’ before I speak, instead of just blurting it out as I’m naturally prone to do.
It has taught me to speak with awareness.
Yes, blogging has been a valuable tool in my life because it’s taught me more than I ever thought it would.
But above all, blogging has allowed me to meet people, such as yourselves, that I probably would have never met otherwise. It’s been a quality, online social media that has connected me to your lives, which I feel very fortunate and blessed to have met you.
Thank you for sharing your interests, your talents, your births, your deaths, your ups, your downs, and everything in between. And even though some of us have not met in person, I feel as though I know you. And I mean really know you, because I can feel you through the energy of your words.
Thank you so much for being part of this community.
You are loved, valued, and greatly appreciated.
*Note: Please feel free to cut yourself a piece of this birthday cake. I baked it myself. It’s a dark chocolate cake with a milk chocolate icing. And no, it's not organic, vegan or gluten-free. Sorry. It's just a good old-fashioned unhealthy cake that I got from Betty Crocker.
Bon appétit!
Have a super weekend everyone!
