I hope everyone who observes daylight saving time remembered to adjust their clocks yesterday. I did, but normally I forget; especially when we turn them forward. This year however, I scotch-taped several notes around my apartment (one in my bathroom, one on the inside of my apartment door, and one on the mirror above my computer desk), just to be sure I didn't forget.

And I also kept repeating, spring forward...fall back...spring forward...fall back, because I have hard time remembering if the clocks move forward or back.

I distinctly remember one time when I was still living in Florida and forgot to turn my clocks forward and was an HOUR late for work. I was a hairstylist at that time who booked on appointments, so it created an avalanche of running late for every appointment. And you have no idea how upset I was because I'm ANAL about being on time, whether it be in my work or personal life.

I had off last weekend, so I told myself that even if I forgot about the clocks it was no big deal because I didn't have a time schedule.

It was weird though, because yesterday the sun didn't even start setting until after 6 PM and didn't completely set until almost 7:30. The day seemed so much longer. And it was a beautiful day too. I spent the entire afternoon outside, enjoying the gorgeous weather and taking photographs. Sunday was sunny and cool. Absolutely GORGEOUS!

For some reason, shadows caught my eye. So, I took a bunch of pictures containing highlights and lowlights. I'm also very attracted to interesting angles and geometric shapes whenever I take photographs.

Please enjoy some urban shadows...

Like you I keep repeating that all the time I'm changing our hundred clocks ... not really a hundred but it seems like it. There are a lot of timepieces in my house and they're all logged on the computer so I don't forget one. I print the list and walk round the house with it, ticking them off as they are changed. I don't have to do the job for a couple of weeks. .

Your pictures are fabulous, so many GREAT buildings where you live. 2, 4 and 5 are my favourites - I think the bicycle shadow is brilliant.

Here's hoping the forthcoming week is all we expect it to be x

  2. I just LOVE your picture taking days!! You sure do have an eye for photos Ron!! LOVE them all. It is not even warm-ish here! We are hoping that it gets a little bit close to 40 because we would like to get the RV uncovered...there are still four foot drifts on either side. My husband has made a pathway with the snowblower around the house so we are hoping to be able to drive it around before the ground gets too soft. Personally, I do not think the ground will be soft until maybe June! Temps still forecast in the 30's next week. Crazy! Hope all is well with you, my friend...sorry I haven't been by...just busy...that's all! Happy Monday! xo Jeanne and the girlz

  3. Hey, Ron, I love these photos beyond a shadow of a doubt! You have such a great eye! You're really gifted when it comes to composing your photographs.

Shadows are fascinating. We wonder what's hidden there, what can't we see. They represent a whole other world existing all around us. And sometimes we want to be among the shadows.

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? Ronnie knows!

    Have a great week, buddy!

  4. Ron, I laughed at you placing notes all over your apartment to remind you to turn your clocks again because I do the same thing. I use post-its. I even had one in my car! I'm so paranoid that I'm going to forget. Someone at work had mentioned daylight saving time last week which reminded me.

Fabulous shadow photographs! You have such a great eye for taking interesting pictures. Love them all, but 2, 3, 4, and 5 really stand out for me!

Have a wonderful week, Ron x

  5. Ron, your ability to take photographs, and to know how to capture them at just the right angle, is so impressive! I love the angle in #3. And the shot of the bicycle shadow is outstanding! #4 for too!

My husband and I change the clocks in our home the night before daylight saving time so we don't forget. We do it before we go to sleep.

    Yesterday was gorgeous, wasn't it?

That's a brilliant idea! You are so organized! The clocks on my computer and phone change automatically, but I also have digital alarm clock and a battery operated clock on my wall which have to changed manually.

Thank you. The photograph of the bicycle was one of the last shots I took yesterday afternoon. I was walking down Broad Street and spotted the sun casting a shadow on the sidewalk and snapped it.

Have a lovely week, dear lady, and thank you for stopping by!

  7. Thank you, Jeanne :) Yesterday the weather was so gorgeous that I had to get outside and enjoy it. It was the perfect day to take photographs. The streets were packed with people walking around.

OMG, I know, you've had so much snow this year. I have a feeling though that we will be getting more this month because March can be very strange. One minute it feels like spring, the next minute it turns back to winter.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaabulous week!

  8. Hey there Rob!

Thank you :) Yesterday was so beautiful that I just had to be outside taking pictures. The streets were packed with people milling about, enjoying the spring-like weather. I even saw some people walking around in short-sleeve shirts!

HAHAHHAHAHA! It's so funny you mentioned placing post-its in your car because when I was stilling driving, I used to tape a note on my rear view mirror to remind me!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by and for your kind words, girl. Have a wonderful week too!

  11. Thank you, Elaine :) I took that shot of the bicycle on Broad Street in front of Walgreens drug store. I loved how the sun cast a shadow on the sidewalk. I also took #8 in the same location.

"My husband and I change the clocks in our home the night before daylight saving time so we don't forget. We do it before we go to sleep."

I do the same thing! I went to sleep right before midnight on Saturday, so I changed the clocks back then

Wasn't yesterday STUNNING? I couldn't get over how warmishly-cool it was.

  13. Ron, these photographs are all great! As I've told you before, you have inspired me so much to take more photographs and to notice interesting images. I especially love the shadow shots of the street light and bicycle. I also like #1. Is that a restaurant? I love Indie food. I like the glass sculpture in #9. Very cool!

    Great post, dude!

Btw, I forgot to turn my clocks forward this year.

  14. Hiya Matt!

Glad to hear your trying new things with your photography. You go, boy! And the more you do it, the more you'll start to notice more. Having a camera has really made me notice things around me.

" I also like #1. Is that a restaurant? I love Indie food."

Yes it is. It opened last year and it must be good because it's always crowded with customers. I love the sign on the front!

"Btw, I forgot to turn my clocks forward this year."

Oh no! Hopefully you didn't have to work on Sunday.

  16. Another great selection of photographs, Ron! Like you, I'm attracted to geometric shapes, so I find it interesting that you notice them within photographs. I love how you captured the shapes in the street in #8 and how the sunlight formed a triangle on the building in #6. I like the contrast of the architecture in #2.

Personally, I think DST is a pain. I don't see the point.

  17. spring forward...fall back...spring forward...fall back - that's the only way I can remember which way. I was out of town and didn't realize we were supposed to change the clocks so I'm glad someone reminded me.

    Great photos!

  18. Ron, I simply LOVE the bicycle -- so expressive. Looks like it's just begging somebody to take a spin on it, ha!

I'm the same way about being on time! My late dad drilled punctuality into me, I guess, and I have a hard time abiding others who keep me waiting (as if their time is more valuable than mine!)

Glad you had such a lovely day and could take these photos to share. Light and shadows make for such interesting views.

Oh, and by the way, I watched the ENTIRE documentary about the doctor (that you linked to last post), and it was fabulous!! Anybody who hasn't seen that really should remedy the situation.

    Have a wonderful Monday! {{{ YOU }}}

  19. You'll have to forgive me....we've been doing the flu in this household. When I say WE, I mean himself and himself and himself. He's REALLY got the flu. Eww....I mean reeeaaaalllyyyy got it.
That being said, every clock in the house was reset. Like there's a lot to do in between taking drinks, getting cool compresses, telling him how sorry I am and trying to be quiet so he can rest....and taking care of all things flu-like which I won't elaborate on TYVM!

But the photos are a welcome break and quite fun to look over. I like the frilly man statue on the building....and the bicycle, the street lights and the fire escape....oh....and the old limestome building? Mostly I like that you got out and about in your wonderful weather.
Did I mention we've been doing the flu in this house?
LOL...Worthy of twice, especially since I'm looking for some pity. LOLOL!!

  20. Ron, I also wanted to say that I watched the video clip on your sidebar of Lady Gaga singing at the Academy Awards, AGAIN, because I saw her sing on Oscar night and she blew me away! I took that shot in an alleyway, not too far from where I live. That building is actually a parking garage. I loved the triangle!

"Personally, I think DST is a pain. I don't see the point."

I agree. I think it's a pain too and don't see the point. I think we should just leave time one way and forget about adjusting it.

Thank you :) I took that bicycle shot late afternoon. I was walking out of Walgreens and immediately grabbed my camera and snapped. I love the way the sunlight was hitting it.

OMG...my dad was the same way. He drilled punctuality into me. He was also anal about being on time. I too have a hard time abiding others who keep me waiting. And what I really don't like are people who are continually late for work. To me, it's not being responsible.

Glad to hear you reset your clocks!

Yesterday the weather was so beautiful that I wanted to be outside. And it really put me in the mood to take a lot of photographs. I had so much fun taking these. " I like the frilly man statue on the building.." Isn't that statue cool-looking? It stands in front of an office building on Market Street (the business district in Philly).

My second favorite is the street lamp. Again, another thing you walk by every day, and yet you turned it to art! I always get excited when you post your pictures. I see things in a different light!

  27. Hello again, Robert!

I didn't watch the Academy Awards this year, so I had no idea Lady Gaga even sang. I found out from my brother who told me look the video up on You Tube because he was soooooooooo impressed with her. And he was right, her performance was amazing. It actually brought tears to my eyes when Julie Andrews came out and hugged her at the end of the song. I too have never been a follower of Lady Gaga, but I am NOW. What an incredible talent!

"We spring forward at the end of March."

  37. Ron, You could take a photo of anything and make it interesting/beautiful! Wow, these are so cool. I love shadows and plays of light. You really are a gifted photographer.

I grew up in Saskatchewan, in the middle of Canada, where the clocks stay the same all year round. It was a bit of an adjustment, every time I moved away, to remember about the time change to DST.

What I don't get is why they bother anymore to go back to regular time. It's gotten to be such a short time that ISN'T on DST, why bother switching back and forth any longer? The spring forward, fall back is a good way to remember though.

    Have a grand week! G

I am so happy DST is here, even if it does mean changing clocks. Of course, these days I have fewer clocks to change. I have the clocks on the stove microwave, and coffee maker, but I have to reset those whenever the power goes put anyway. Also the one in my car. Everything else changes itself now - phone and computers. I use my phone as my alarm clock, so I don't have to worry about forgetting.

Yes, Philly (architecturally) does remind me a lot of same in Manhattan. I think it's that Northeast city thing, because several of the cities on the east coast have similar historical architecture.
