You can refer to it as anal retentive, perfectionism, OCD, or all three.

However you choose to define it, I've got it.

Particularly when it comes to certain things.

Today I would like to share four things that give me OCD.

*photos were all found online

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

1) My bed has to be made every, single morning-

When I wake up in the morning, I immediately make my bed. I live in a studio apartment, so if my bed is not made, it makes the entire space look messy. When I come home from work at night, I like walking into a tidy apartment. But even if I didn't live in a studio, I would still make my bed every morning because I don't like getting into an unmade bed. It gives me agita.

Oh, and speaking of beds. I'm also OCD about changing my pillow cases and sheets every week. Sometimes during the hotter, summer months when I sweat more, I change my pillow cases and sheets twice a week.

2) Fingerprint streaks on my cellphone screen-

Question: Have you ever glanced over at someone texting on their phone and noticed that the screen looked as if they used it to wipe their hands after eating a bucket of deep fried chicken wings?

I have. And it's disgusting.

I can't stand when the screen on my cellphone has a lot of fingerprint streaks on it. Therefore, I carry a special cloth in my backpack that removes them. I usually wipe the screen several times a day; particularly after going out for lunch on a workday when I use my phone to check emails or listen to music. And then at night after charging the battery, I give it a really good cleaning and then place it inside my cellphone case.

Yes, just refer to me as Joan Crawford. The only difference is that instead of hangers, I scream..."NO FINGERPRINT STREAKS, EVER!"

3) Punctuality-

I'm pretty sure this OCD thing transferred from my father to me because he was manic about not only being on time, but being EARLY.

And so am I.

Example: I am usually 15-20 minutes early before I start my shifts at work. And because I'm so paranoid about being late, I set my alarm clock two hours before I have to be there, just in case something happens that might make me late. I also check my alarm clock several times before going to bed to make sure I turned it ON.

Not only for work, I'm OCD about being on time for anything that's scheduled.

4) Balancing my checking account register book-

Anytime I use my debit card, write a check, or make a deposit into my checking account, I am extremely diligent about documenting it in my register book. And this is why I ask for printed receipts whenever I make a purchase because I will place them in my wallet to remind me to balance my register book when I get home. And just to show you how OCD I am about this, if I purchase something and am unable to get a receipt, I will immediately send an email to myself through my cellphone so that when I check my emails at night, I'll be reminded to make the deduction. Afterwards, I log into my online banking account and make sure any transaction I made that day balances with my register book.

And I have to say, this is one OCD thing I'm grateful for because in doing so I've caught mistakes that either I made, or mistakes made by being charged twice for something.

Yup, I admit it. I can be a tad like Joan when it comes to those fingerprint streaks on my cellphone...

Have a spectacular rest of your week, everyone! 💗

*If there is anything that gives you OCD, please feel free to share it!

  1. Ron JOAN Crawford, you have me rolling seeing your portrait!! I'm the same on things, a bit. My fetish is clean dishes. If there is just a knife in the sink from after making a sandwich ...it must be washed instead of sitting around for more dishes to pile up. But BUD is worse....he even folds his clothes before placing them in the hamper!!! Oh .. gotta tell you a bit of my background. Every night Bud out out clean clothes for morning. He unfold clean socks & place them in his shoes. One night I got up & tied his socks in a knot. His day was ruined. I still laugh, but he can't see humor. I've got oodles of stories. Lol

  2. Funny photo, Mr. Joan! ha! I admire your determination to keep things a certain way. I think the banking is especially important to manage. Ron usually keeps ours on track ... although he does not get receipts for some things so maybe that could be a problem if there was a discrepancy.

Oh, I do love a made bed... except ours never is. haha Luna sleeps with us, too, so not only do we have wrinkled bedding, but dog hair. Actually, we do really need to buy a new bed very soon. Luna might have to test them out with us. LOL!!
Hmm...OCD for me would probably be things like... I have to smell milk before using it at home. And eggs, I usually test them in a container of water to make sure they are fresh. I don't think our refrigerator is always cold enough (the digital readout broke) so I'm a bit picky to check things like that.
I do always try to be a little early when I'm going places, too! Traffic is soooo bad these days that sometimes you just can't judge it just right, but I'd always rather be somewhere waiting for a few mins. than rushing in late.

  3. OMG Anni, I'm sitting here having my morning coffee and almost spewed it from my mouth while reading your comment about Bud and what you did to his socks. That is freaking HILARIOUS!!!!!!! That, and the fact that he folds his clothes before placing them in the hamper! LOL!!!!

    Two things:

I'm exactly like you when it comes to immediately cleaning dishes in the sink. In fact, last after I made dinner (and before I sat down to eat it) I cleaned the things I used to make my dinner. I'm obsessive about that.

"Every night Bud out out clean clothes for morning. He unfold clean socks & place them in his shoes"

I do the SAME THING, I kid you not! Maybe it's a "guy thing?" LOL!

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your stories. They cracked me up! Have a great rest of your day, my friend!

    Joan

  4. Morning, Mary!

OMG, I am anal about asking for receipts whenever I purchase something because I always use my debit card, therefore, if I don't remember to deduct the purchase, it screws up my account.

I laughed at your mention of Luna in bed and dog hair because when I had two cats, they used to sleep with me and leave cat hair all over. Do you know what I used to do? I kept a lint brush roller next to my bed and would use it to remove all the hair. Talk about OCD. LOL!

"I have to smell milk before using it at home. And eggs, I usually test them in a container of water to make sure they are fresh. I don't think our refrigerator is always cold enough (the digital readout broke) so I'm a bit picky to check things like that."

Me too!!!!!! And you should see me picking out a bag of lettuce at Trader Joe's. I go through all the bags until I find the one with the freshest lettuce, I kid you not!

And I hear you about being somewhere waiting for a few minutes, than rushing in late. I sooooo agree!

Have a faaaaaaaaaaabulous day, my friend! Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Yes, I have things I'm OCD about, for sure. I think every one does. I am OCD about my desk at home and at work. I am a neat freak about having everything in order on my desk so that if I need something, I know exactly where it is. Sometimes at work we have to share a desk and it drives me insane if the person who used it before me leaves a mess.

I'm also OCD about punctuality. I don't understand people who are habitually late, especially when it comes to work. And what kills me is how its become something that's acceptable.

FUN post Ron! I cracked up at the picture of you as Joan Crawford. You are too funny! By the way, I know you've seen the movie, but did you ever read the book, 'Mommie Dearest?" I did.

  6. Helloooooooooo there, Daniel!

" Sometimes at work we have to share a desk and it drives me insane if the person who used it before me leaves a mess Sometimes at work we have to share a desk and it drives me insane if the person who used it before me leaves a mess."

That would drive me insane as well because I'm a neat freak when it comes to my desk at home. I don't like a lot of papers and crap on my desk. I can't stand any kind of clutter and unnecessary stuff on my desk.

"I don't understand people who are habitually late, especially when it comes to work. And what kills me is how its become something that's acceptable."

Yes! Yes! Yes! OMG, we have a few people at work who are not only habitually late, but also call out all the time. And you're right, it's something that's become totally acceptable.

Yup, I did read the book, "Mommie Dearest!" In fact, I read it as soon as it came out, before the release of the movie. I found the book much more detailed and revealing about Crawford. But I did love the movie. As a matter of fact, I own the DVD. You might be interested in this: I went to acting school in NYC with Diana Scarwid, who portrayed the "older Christina Crawford" in the movie. It was her very first film after she graduated AADA. She was (and still is) such a talented actress.

    Have a terrific day, Daniel!

  7. Ron, one of my biggest OCD things is the fear of leaving my curling iron plugged in. I'm always paranoid that I forgot to turn it off, so I either walk back up to my apartment and double check. Or, if I'm at work and think about it, I'm worried all day that my apartment is going to burn down because I left the damn thing on!

I'm also OCD about making sure my apartment door is locked before I go to bed. There have been times when I forgot and woke up the next morning to an unlocked front door. So now I check the lock a few times before going to bed.

The graphic of you as Joan Crawford is hysterical, Ron! Thanks for the morning laugh! xo

  8. Ok, I’m a bit disappointed that you did not use a real image of your bed…..LOL! I’m completely with you on making a bed. Since we now have a first floor master AND an open floor plan, there’s no way I could stand passing an unmade bed all day long. Plus, it literally takes one minute to make my bed. I’m always shocked by the laziness of people who don’t do things that only take one minute. What’s up with that?

I’m not quite as picky about my phone screen as you, but I’ve transferred that pickiness to my glasses. I clean them 3-4 times a day with a special cloth and spray. And I hate seeing people with dirty glasses. So gross to me! I’m fairly punctual. My paranoia is more about being late for a flight or something like that. I basically get no sleep the night before because I’m worried my alarm won’t go off.

Ok, get this…..my bank changed their statements and no longer include the chart on the back to balance your checkbook!!! What’s up with that?? I’m guessing they think most people don’t use it? Well, I do, every single month! Again, people have become too lazy!

That portrait is too much, Ron! It did give me a chuckle. Remember that comedian who played an old woman with a tight bun on the back of her head? I can’t remember his name, but it reminded me of him. Was it on Laugh In? I’ll come back if I remember. XO

  9. Morning, Candice!

OMG, how you are about your curling iron is exactly how I am with my clothes iron!!!! I am so paranoid that I'll leave it plugged in when I leave my apartment. So, do you know what I do? I make sure to iron my clothes the night before I need them, so I don't forget to unplug it. LOL!

"I'm also OCD about making sure my apartment door is locked before I go to bed. There have been times when I forgot and woke up the next morning to an unlocked front door. So now I check the lock a few times before going to bed."

Yup, I've done the exact same thing in the past. However, several years ago my apartment building put all new doors in the apartments (which took them a YEAR), that have two locks - a dead bolt and a door handle lock that automatically locks. So now I don't worry because I know it locks as soon as I shut the door.

Always great to see you, Candice! Have a faaaaaabulous rest of your week!

  10. "Ok, I’m a bit disappointed that you did not use a real image of your bed…..LOL!"

HA! I was going to, however, when I was googling images for this post, I found a photo online that looked almost exactly like the style of my own bed. The only difference is the bedding. My bed has gray and white bedding.

"Plus, it literally takes one minute to make my bed. I’m always shocked by the laziness of people who don’t do things that only take one minute. What’s up with that?"

    THANK. YOU. My sentiments exactly!

" I’ve transferred that pickiness to my glasses. I clean them 3-4 times a day with a special cloth and spray. And I hate seeing people with dirty glasses. So gross to me."

Funny you mentioned glasses because although I don't wear glasses all the time, I do need them for reading. Therefore, like you, I am ALWAYS cleaning them. And especially at work because I often get makeup and skincare product residue all over them when I'm helping a client. GROSS.

" I basically get no sleep the night before because I’m worried my alarm won’t go off."

OMG...you and I must be twins because that happens to me too! Particularly when I have to be at the airport for a scheduled flight. I get so paranoid that I'll miss the flight.

"...my bank changed their statements and no longer include the chart on the back to balance your checkbook!!! What’s up with that?? I’m guessing they think most people don’t use it? Well, I do, every single month! Again, people have become too lazy!"

Mine too!!!! And not only that, but they also discontinued suppling register books, can you believe that? Thank god I stocked up on them for the past 6 months. However, once I use them up, I'll have to get a ledger book to document my checking account transactions.

"Remember Jonathan Winters playing that old lady? Your picture reminds me of that!"

    HA! Yes, I do!!!!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a super week too!

  11. Oh, wow, Ron, this is like staring into a mirror! I can't believe how alike we are in our OCDness! Every item on your list makes me nuts, too -- but you know, there's good reasoning behind our "madness."

I read just the other day that you *should* change your sheets weekly -- to prevent buildup of dust mites. Eeewww, huh? And making your bed first thing in the morning actually makes you more productive, giving you a feeling of success that follows you throughout the day.

I, too, am *always* early. And I can't abide it when someone is consistently late -- makes me think they don't value my time! And I regularly clean my cellphone. The doggone thing is so close to my face and mouth that I sure don't want GERMS, ha!!

And not balancing a checkbook is just a foreign notion to me. How do you know how much money you've got (and where it's going?) if you don't keep up with your funds?

Great post, my OCD twin! Have a wonderful holiday weekend! xx

  12. Hello there, Debbie!

"Oh, wow, Ron, this is like staring into a mirror! I can't believe how alike we are in our OCDness! Every item on your list makes me nuts, too -- but you know, there's good reasoning behind our "madness."

I know why that is, you and I are VIRGO'S! LOL! Actually, you're a Virgo, but I'm a Libra with a Virgo rising; therefore, I have a lot of Virgo traits.

"I read just the other day that you *should* change your sheets weekly -- to prevent buildup of dust mites. Eeewww, huh? And making your bed first thing in the morning actually makes you more productive, giving you a feeling of success that follows you throughout the day."

HA! You see, that's a perfect example of being alike because I can totally understand those things and agree with them!

I know that I can be a bit much when it comes to being overly paranoid about being on time, but I would rather be like that than be someone who is consistently late. Like you said, it's as if they don't value anyone's time.

"And not balancing a checkbook is just a foreign notion to me. How do you know how much money you've got (and where it's going?) if you don't keep up with your funds?"

THANK. YOU. And like I said, more than a few times I caught mistakes that either I made, or a mistake of being overly charged for a product or a service.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my OCD twin! OMG, that's right...Monday is Memorial Day! Have a fabulous holiday weekend!

  13. WOW RON, you went to school with her?!?! That is so cool! What year was that? I'm so impressed!

And I agree, the book was much more detailed and revealing about Joan. And I suppose it's because they don't have time to show everything in book because it would be too long. But I enjoyed the movie for what it was. Apparently though, Faye Dunaway hated how the movie was pictured.

  14. I attended the Academy in 1974. Diana Scarwid was in her second and I was in my first. She also lived in the same college dorm, Pace University. I remember seeing her in a play that she was in upon graduating and she was SO GOOD. I immediately felt that she would get a lot of work in the industry. She's done theater, TV and film. In case you're interested, you can read more about her and her career on IMDB Every so often I'll be watching a movie and suddenly see her in a role.

Yes, I know. OMG...Faye Dunaway doesn't even like to talk about that film in interviews. And I find that sad because she did such an AMAZING job in the role.

  15. Hey, Ron!

So let me get this straight...you don't like fingerprint streaks on your cellphone?

Seriously, though, I get that. And I'm going to get a cloth like yours to keep my I-phone I-mmaculate!

Making the bed is a big deal for me, too. There's something about an unmade bed that just says "I give up, I'm going to live like an animal." No, thank you!

And punctuality is NOT OCD--it's freaking good manners! I find getting to work early helps me ease into the day. You've a little time to breathe before the idiots gang up on you.

The last one--oh, God--I am TERRIBLE with my financial records!

I think it's a form of denial, but thanks to you--and I mean that, thanks!--I'm going to try to keep better track of my simoleons!

Take care, buddy, and watch out for this wire hangers!

  16. Dear Joan Crawford,

You crack me up!!!! And it's ironic you posted about things that make you OCD because I was talking with a guy I work with about this same thing. I told him that I have several things I'm OCD about, but one of them was that all the canned goods in my kitchen cabinet all have to be facing forward so that when I open the door, I can immediately see all the labels. It makes finding things that I need so much faster, you know? And I'm that way with my medicine cabinet too. All the bottles have to be facing out so that I can see them as soon as I open the door.

I too am OCD about balancing my checkbook. I also ask for a receipt. I don't understand people who don't care whether they get one or not. How do they remember what they purchased? I pay several of my bills online too, so always check to make sure they deducted the proper amount and that they didn't add on any new charges.

Thank you for another entertaining and informative post, Ron. I saw on the news that the Northeast got some really warm temps a few days ago. I'm sure you LOVED it. LOL! xo

  17. Hola Denise!

    Joan Crawford here! LOL!

" one of them was that the canned goods in my kitchen cabinet all have to be facing forward so that when I open the door, I can immediately see all the labels. It makes finding things that I need so much faster, you know? And I'm that way with my medicine cabinet too. All the bottles have to be facing out so that I can see them as soon as I open the door."

LOVED those! And I'm the same with my canned goods all facing out so that I know how many cans of beans, diced tomatoes, olives, etc. I have left. And I also do that like you said, to find them fast when I need a can of something. I have a cabinet under the sink in my bathroom, where I keep most of my bathroom stuff. I try too keep that area all neat and tidy because it can get messy very quickly.

And I agree, how to people who don't ask for receipts remember to deduct their purchases and balance them with their debit card?!?! I too pay some of my bill online. And afterwards, I immediately make sure the right amount was deducted. I am so anal about that.

OMG yes...we had some REALLY, REALLY hot and humid days last week. We had two days in the HIGH 90's already!

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a stupendous rest of your week!

    X,
    Joan C.

  18. Hiya Rob!

Yup...I can't stand fingerprints streaks on my cellphone. Makes me go all Joan Crawford!

And I agree, there is something "animalistic" about an unmade bed. It's like going back to the caveman days!!!

I too find getting to work early helps me ease into the day. I don't like feeling rushes when I get there. I enjoy taking my time getting all set up for the day.

It's funny, I'm not a financial wizard by any means. However, when it comes to organizing my withdraws and deposits, I'm fanatical about them because I like knowing how much money I have to spend, and how much money I have saved. I put myself on a budget too; therefore it helps to know what I have in the bank.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a super rest of your week!

  19. We all have our own OCD hang-ups that’s for sure, Ron, and I am right with you on the punctuality one. I would rather be a half hour early than 5 minutes late to anyplace.

Making the bed after awakening, not so much, mainly because Grenville is still in it when I leave for the in-house gym at 6 am 😉

I am a but fanatical in keeping the kitchen counters uncluttered as our apt galley kitchen has such limited space. When doing meal prep, I always get everything ready ahead of time.

Not waiting to do the laundry until there’s no clean towels, underwear or socks as many apt people seem to do judging by the laundry room pileup at times.

There’s a few more as well, but right now these are a few of my own.

Joan Crawford was never a favorite and your portrait was so funny, my blogger friend.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hey there, D!

Yes, you're absolutely right, we all have our own OCD hang-ups. And isn't it something how some of them are with us early on in our lives, and then other develop as we move through our lives?

"I am a but fanatical in keeping the kitchen counters uncluttered as our apt galley kitchen has such limited space. When doing meal prep, I always get everything ready ahead of time."

Me too on all of that. I have a very small kitchen, so when I'm preparing a meal, I have to get everything ready ahead of time. And I also clean the dishes and cutlery "as" after I use them. I don't wait until I'm all done to clean things. I clean as I go.

"Not waiting to do the laundry until there’s no clean towels, underwear or socks as many apt people seem to do judging by the laundry room pileup at times."

YES! I notice the same thing in our laundry room as well. I do two loads of laundry every week. And I usually do it very early in the morning to avoid a crowded laundry room.

People seemed to either like Joan Crawford or they didn't. Same with Bette Davis. I enjoyed them both for different reasons.

Thanks so much for stopping by, D! Hope you're having a FAB week!

  21. Ron (Joan), I an OCD about my closet. I can't stand when my closet is not organized and easy to find things. As a matter of fact, I am so OCD about it that I insist on having my own closet and not sharing one with my husband (because his closet looks like a BOMB exploded). We only have one closet in our bedroom, so my closet is in one of the extra bedrooms in our house. I'm so obsessive with my closet that all my clothes are coordinated by color and length. My clothes go from short to long and then sub-coordinated by color. And my shoes have to be all lined up in order as well, by style and color.

Now, my husband is OCD about his tools in the basement. Everything has to be in order and god forbid I move something out of order if I need to use a screw driver or hammer for something. He freaks. But I can't really blame him because I'm the same way about my closet!!!

I too make my bed in the morning. And that's one thing both my husband and I are OCD about. LOL!

Fun and interesting post, Ron. Isn't it something how people have different (and sometimes the same) OCD tendencies?

    Have a great weekend! xo

    ReplyDelete
  22. OMG Elaine, I laughed my ass off at the comparison between you and your husband's OCD things. TOO FUNNY!!!! And I hear you about having your closet organized because I'm the same. I only have ONE closet in my apartment, so I have to keep it very well organized because I house so many things in it. I'm grateful that it's a very deep closet, so I can store a lot of things I don't use often in the back.

And I love how you organized your clothes and shoes in such perfect order, that's faaaaaaabulous! I do that with my pants and shirts (dress pants go with dress pants, and jeans go with jeans).

"and god forbid I move something out of order if I need to use a screw driver or hammer for something. He freaks. But I can't really blame him because I'm the same way about my closet!!!"

    LOL! That is so CUTE!!!

And yes, it is interesting to see how people have some of the same OCD tendencies with certain things, and also different things.

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing, neighbor! Have a great weekend too!

  23. Ron, I am so OCD about how I place cash into my wallet. All the bills have to be facing the same way, and I also need them to be placed from the lowest bill to the highest one (ones, fives, tens, twenties, etc.) It drives me crazy when I pay for something in cash and the cashier hands me the change with the bills all out of order. Or worse, in big ol' wad of cash.

Like you, I turn into Joan Crawford. LOL!

    Fun post, dude!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Matt, I laughed my ass off at your comment because that's one of my OCD pet peeves as well, so I KNOW how you feel!!!! And I also can't stand when the cashier just hands me the change without counting it back, they just shove it in my hand. Whenever I ring up a customer where I work who pays in cash, I always count the change back. And I do that for two reasons. 1) so that the customer knows exactly what change they're getting, and 2) so that I make sure I give them the correct amount by not shortchanging them, or the cash register.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a fantastic week!
