Post updates by email:

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you’ve obviously read countless posts throughout the years in which I've BITCHED and MOANED about summer, and how much I wished I could take some sort of sleeping pill that would enable me to sleep from June until September, when autumn begins to show itself.

Just like a bear, who hibernates during the winter months.

The main reason why I moved from Florida back to the northeast twelve years ago, was because at 45-years old I went through male menopause (known as MANopause) and could no longer tolerate the predominate heat and humidity, which started to cause my body pain.

I know this sounds odd, but I can handle being extremely cold, yet cannot handle being extremely hot for long periods. So I knew it was time to return to a more diverse climate, where I would only have to deal with heat for three months. But even those three months were sheer torture for me.

Yet, since flying back to Florida last July to visit my family, my adaption to summer has drastically changed. I don’t whether it’s that, or that my hormones are leveling out and the summer heat is just not bothering me as much as it used to.

It’s probably a little bit of both.

And no, I’m not thinking of moving back to the Gold Coast and getting certified as a lifeguard on South Beach, because I cherish the change of seasons too much. It’s just that spending those two weeks last year in the Sunshine State, made me rediscover the joy of summer.

For the past two summers, instead of resisting, I embraced and got into them. And I can’t tell you how much that made me enjoy them more, instead of moaning about it.

I spent more time outdoors, which is the opposite of what I normally do during summer; staying indoors, like Count Dracula.

I sat in the sun and tanned; I took two trips to NYC; I ate Italian water ice and fresh produce; I looked at all the sexy men in their tank tops and shorts, exposing more of their arms, legs, and the outline of their BUTT.

(Ooops!…sorry to let that last one slip out, butt I got carried away)

*It should be noted here that I’m a BUTT watcher, as well as LEGS*

Yes, I enjoyed this summer to the point where it appeared to fly by when I wasn't looking.

And I'll even go so far as to say that I feel a bit melancholy that it's over.

Sure, we had some HORRENDOUS heat waves, but they didn't last long. And much of August was actually on the cooler side.

Anyway, the whole reason I’m sharing this post is to say YAHOO to the season of summer, because I’ve learned to appreciate you again.

So, as I gradually put away my tank tops, flip-flops, suntan lotion, and BINOCULARS.

I say adieu, summer!

And look forward to seeing you next year…

But I want to quickly add here, just in case you get the wrong idea, thinking I've totally lost my mind and changed completely, I can't WAIT for autumn and WINTER.

And LOTS and LOTS of this stuff…

Bring it on, baby!

Happy Monday y’all!
X

*I dedicate my final photo collage to Chrissy and Mark, who share my love for cold and snow.

*Yes I know, most people DREAD the cold, the snow, and winter, so feel free to tell me how sick and demented I am in your comments...X

  1. Ha! I was just reading this and thinking, What? He LIKED the summer? And then you redeemed yourself when you showed the snow pics! And yes, you, me and Mark are the minority, I'm sure!
But good for you embracing it this year. Not me. Can't wait to get old so my blood thins and I can't tell how hot it is.

  2. Sorry, Ron, but I can't call someone sick and demented who has the same opinions as me. I did feel a little better with this year's summer because there were fewer really hot days, but now I'm in my element because autumn is upon us and it's still reasonably warm. Apart from the pretty scenery it brings, snow isn't something I relish ... it's an age thing, slipping on ice, fear of falling, that sort of thing. In those conditions I have a fear of falling head over butt (don't we all butt watch?) and haha revealing things that should never be revealed.

Enjoy your week, butt watching or otherwise.

PS Oooh Chrissie, thin blood does feel the heat, at least mine does and mine is ancient :O)

  3. Well, I was all ready to sing a praise Jesus, Ron has seen the light, until I scrolled down and saw the photos of snow! Ron - it's hard to look at butts under winter clothes! Get a grip, man!

Every year, I can tolerate the snow less and less. I drape a blanket over my legs while I'm driving with the heater turned on full blast. My kids think I'm wack, but I HATE being cold.

  4. Great photos Ron!
I am SOOOO ready to say goodbye to summer! I love Autumn, already I'm feeling better with the temps. coming down.
Interesting that you've found it more tolerable in recent years to be in a hotter climate. That's gotta be a good thing.
But I still think autumn rocks! Bring it on!
Happy Week to you, G :<)

  5. Aaaha you're coming round to my way of thinking Ron! You know I love summer and in the UK it's been a brilliant one, apart from one or two hiccoughs. Anyway, in my book, summer's not over until it's over and we're still getting some good weather here so I'm making the most of it, well until we go to Canada on the 15th that is. :)

  6. Summer doesn't officially end until September 21st. We usually have plenty of nice weather until it gets really chilly in October. Hell, we had 50 degree temps in August. Please don't rush the seasons. The cold is unbearable enough without you nuts posting photos of snow.

Your summer collage is gorgeous and, as nice as your winter photos are, they're just a bit premature. ;-)

  7. I am a summer girl through and though. As everyone is rejoicing about Pumpkin this and Pumpkin that I feel like we were cheated out of a summer. As you said there were some heat waves but they didnt last long. For the most part this was a very mild summer. I actually wore a coat for the better part of it. This girl HATES being cold! I would do anything to avoid being cold. That being said I love the holidays and cant wait for that season to come as long as the weather stays mild and the snow doesnt get crazy.

  8. I'm so glad you discovered summer again Ron. I must admit to not liking it too hot. I stay indoors if it's above 78 degrees. BUT, I also love winter. I like all the seasons, because each one has it's beauty.

The only down side to snow, for us, is that we tend to get snowed in. Then I sit looking out at all that lovely snow and photo opportunities I'm missing.

  9. Ron, what beautiful summer photo collages. And I laughed out loud when I saw the one of the arrows pointing to his BUTT and LEGS. You are so funny! Nice butt and legs too!

As you know, I live in Florida now, so I understand what you mean about the constant heat and humidity. There are times when I really miss the change of seasons that the northeast brings, especially moving into fall and winter. I miss those times, putting on a sweater or jacket when the climate shifts to those crisper and cooler days. And I have to say, I didn't mind the cold and snow of winter either. Oh well, one of these days I can see myself moving back because I do miss it.

Happy Labor Day, Ron. Have a wonderful week!

HA! You didn't think I lost my mind completely, did you??? I so thought of you and Mark when I was putting this post together and just HAD to add that photo collage at the end; dedicating it to those of us who LOVE winter!!

  11. ron, your photos are just beautiful!

knowing how much you hate the heat, but can tolerate it a little better, i'm glad you came out twice to the city. i owe you a couple of walks in the winter. i have under armour so i can take the cold a little.

this past summer was not bad at all. a few hot days, then a cold front and lovely breezes in between.

now i wonder if we were looking at the same men. i'm not a butt person, but turn 'em around, look down and that's where my eyes are. i do look at calves as well. let's me know if that person is a runner or not and calves are just sexy as long as they are not toooo big.

  12. Goooood morning Valerie!

"Sorry, Ron, but I can't call someone sick and demented who has the same opinions as me..."

That's GREAT to hear because there are so few of us who feel that way.

" I did feel a little better with this year's summer because there were fewer really hot days, but now I'm in my element because autumn is upon us and it's still reasonably warm."

Yes, same here, it's still reasonably warm. But August brought us a TEASE of cooler weather, which got me all excited :)

"..In those conditions I have a fear of falling head over butt (don't we all butt watch?) and haha revealing things that should never be revealed."

Oh Valerie, you are too-too funny! And yes, I can see your reasoning about the ice-thing because I myself have slipped on an icy sidewalk during the winter. And the dangerous thing about living in a city with tall buildings during the winter is that we have ICE that falls off the sides sometimes, where they have to block off areas of the street so that you have to walk AROUND the area.

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have a faaabulous week!

"Interesting that you've found it more tolerable in recent years to be in a hotter climate. That's gotta be a good thing."

Yes, a GOOD thing indeed because let me tell ya, in prior years the heat of summer made me insane.

OMG...wasn't that unbelievable? It totally freaked me out because it happened so suddenly.

" Please don't rush the seasons. The cold is unbearable enough without you nuts posting photos of snow."

HAHHAHAHHA! No, I'm not rushing the seasons at all, but sorry, this NUT is looking forward to the snow :)

No, they didn't last long at all. July was probably (here, anyway) the hottest period. And then in August we had a COOL spell, in which I didn't even have to turn on my A/C.

"That being said I love the holidays and cant wait for that season to come as long as the weather stays mild and the snow doesnt get crazy."

Yes, don't ya just love the upcoming holidays? I have a feeling that we won't have a hard winter. Last year we really only had one BIG snowfall.

  18. Hiya Babs!

I know, can you believe it? Me, loving summer?!?!?

But it was truly a very enjoyable season - last year, as well as this year.

" I must admit to not liking it too hot. I stay indoors if it's above 78 degrees. BUT, I also love winter. I like all the seasons, because each one has it's beauty."

You're so right, Babs, each season has its BEAUTY. And it's been great for me that I rediscovered the joy and beauty of summer because it's made me appreciate it more.

"The only down side to snow, for us, is that we tend to get snowed in. Then I sit looking out at all that lovely snow and photo opportunities I'm missing."

Yes, I think it's different for those who live in rural areas compared to those of use who live in urban areas because the snowfall in a city is usually not as severe. Plus, the city takes care of removing the heavy part of it, so that the residents can move around in it easier.

Much thanks for stopping by, my friend. Have a lovely week!

"when I saw the one of the arrows pointing to his BUTT and LEGS. You are so funny! Nice butt and legs too!"

HA! I couldn't resist taking that shot a few days ago. It was actually one of the last shots I got. Woot! Woot! Nice butt and legs indeed!

"There are times when I really miss the change of seasons that the northeast brings, especially moving into fall and winter. I miss those times, putting on a sweater or jacket when the climate shifts to those crisper and cooler days."

When I first moved to Florida, I never dreamed I would ever move back to the northeast because I LOVED living there. And I also loved the climate. However, as I got older, the constant heat and humidity really started to bother me. Yet, it wasn't until I move back, did I realize how much I enjoyed the change of seasons. I also love looking at all the different seasonal clothing and colors - especially fall, with the sweaters, jackets, scarves, and leather boots. And the FOOD. I love fall and winter food!

  20. Hey there V Girl!

Aw, thank you :) I had so many pictures I took over the summer, that I just decided to put some of favorites together in collages.

", i'm glad you came out twice to the city. i owe you a couple of walks in the winter. i have under armour so i can take the cold a little."

Meee too! I loved our two trips into NYC. In fact, they were the highlight of my summer, so thank you! Yes, and we can go back one more time before winter, I would love it. Fall is awesome in NYC!

"this past summer was not bad at all. a few hot days, then a cold front and lovely breezes in between."

I agree...not bad at all. The hottest it ever got was in July, when you and I went to NYC for the day. But other than that, it was an easy summer, heat wise.

"i'm not a butt person, but turn 'em around, look down and that's where my eyes are."

Bwhahahahahhahahaha! OH.MY.GOD....I BURST out laughing when I read that. You are a RIOT, girl!!!

    Yes, aren't calves faaaaaaabulous? SEXY!

I hear you, dude, I too can't wait for fall and winter. This summer was really not bad at all when it came to the heat. I like summer, but I enjoy the other seasons as well. I'm a skier, so I share you love of snow.

  22. I can't say I'm sad to see Summer go. It's been awfully hot. And humid (which is far worse than the heat).
Still, I commend you, Ron, for deciding to embrace summer instead of balking at it! You know, each season supposedly has its treasures, and summer can be magical -- starry nights, ice cream, sunshine, blue skies. . . .
I'm so not ready for winter and snow! Fall? Yes, I'm with you on that one -- bring it ON!

"I can't say I'm sad to see Summer go. It's been awfully hot. And humid (which is far worse than the heat)."

Yes, I agree, it's not so much the heat as it is the HUMIDITY. I spent a summer in Nevada, and although very hot, it's a dry heat. So it didn't FEEL as hot to me.

"....and summer can be magical -- starry nights, ice cream, sunshine, blue skies."

You said it! And I really got into these past two summers.

"I'm so not ready for winter and snow! Fall? Yes, I'm with you on that one -- bring it ON!"

  29. Ron, do you know what I like and appreciate about you? Even if you might not like something, you eventually try to see the good (or humor) in it and turn it around. Many people stay in a state of not liking something and make themselves more unhappy. We can't always change things, but I guess we can change how we experience them. I will try that during the winter because I dread the cold--LOL.

Wonderful photos! Love the shots of the red and green doors, and the bridge with the light post.

    Have a great week, Ron!

  31. Hey ho Robert!

"Many people stay in a state of not liking something and make themselves more unhappy. We can't always change things, but I guess we can change how we experience them."

    Yes.

And that is something I had to learn and CONTINUE to learn. Trust me, my initial reaction to things I don't like, I can resist BIG TIME. But I'm learning (as you shared) it makes not liking something more unlikable. I've been through some challenging experiences in my life (more so than just not liking summer) in which I had to learn to see the good, or at least the lesson in it. Because I can't change everything. But I change how I experience it.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed the photos. I discovered those red and green doors while walking down a little side street here in Philly.

  35. I'm with you with the season changes. Living in Southern California, we don't get any drastic changes, but it does cool down a bit, and it might actually rain once or twice ;-) But I'm down with that. Gives me the chance to bust out the coat and make sure that my umbrella has disintegrated through non-use. I prefer it to be sunny when I go out running, but love walking in the coolness of an afternoon shaded over by dark, menacing clouds. Guess that sort of weather brings out the old goth in me...

  43. I love the cooler/colder weather too, just not so much the snow/ice.
Summer flew by!! Since it was such a nice Spring, people were expecting the same for summer but it ended up being rather wet and unpredictable, around here anyway. A day of kayaking for hubby was cancelled due to weather a few weeks back. And my son had a tubing trip planned for yesterday but the rain and thunder took care of that. Oh well, maybe he can do a Poconos run this winter for a bit of snowboarding. LOL I don't mind if we get extra rain, but the humidity of summer is the worst to deal with.

  47. It's so funny... I cry when summer is over and you cheer when it is over! :) Why don't we trade... I get two summers and you get two winters!

Of all those pictures, for some reason the couple in front of the fountain really captured my eye... I love that one!

Your photography is so amazing, as always. Oh, WHAT are those arrows for again???? :)

    HAHAHAHHAAHA! Awesome idea, Katherine!

No, actually, I'm a bit sad that this summer is ending because I truly had a terrific time. BUT...I can't lie, I AM looking forward to fall and winter.

Aw, thank you. I took that one weeks ago when I was walking past that fountain by Love Park in Philly.

Tee, hee, hee! Aren't I nasty?

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Hope you're having a super week. I am sooooo enjoying your (and Meleah and Babs ) photos for this photo challenge. You GO, Katherine!!!!

  49. I love the seasons...with some restrictions. Spring arrives in March and is gone by May. Summer exits around the end of September. Autumn can linger as long as it likes. Winter is not allowed until December and must absolutely be gone by mid-March. Snow is acceptable on Christmas Eve and one wicked snowstorm is okay as long as it gets me out of work. That said, Mom Nature doesn't consult me on these matters, so most of the time I'm screwed living here in middle Missouri. But as much as I love the changing of the seasons, I could probably be talked into living on an island in the Caribbean. :-) Hope your Autumn and Winter are lovely! Great seasonal collages!

    Bwhahahahahahahaha! Lisa, that was FLAWLESS!!!

Although, wouldn't it be great if that's how it worked? With such drastic changes in the weather over the past 10 years, there are really no distinct seasonal changes in the weather any more. Nor, can we count on the seasons being what they were years ago. They just sorta all blend together.

"But as much as I love the changing of the seasons, I could probably be talked into living on an island in the Caribbean. :-)"

I bet. I can tell that you're a warm weather person. You would LOVE living in Florida.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Hope you're having a super week!

  53. Ron, I would never tell you you're sick and demented for loving cold. But I might call you sick and demented for other reasons, just sayin'. I admire how you took summer by the horns and enjoyed it more. Not so for me, although I will agree that August has been unusually cool by comparison to other Augusts. I'm delighted. Also delighted for fall, I'm feelin' it already, my winter-loving friend!

p.s. my favorite picture above is of the rocks. I love rocks pics and bricks pics. I love a good cobblestone, too.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Yes, I know what you mean because after all these years of being a HUGE fall and winter (cold and snow person), it's so odd that I've started to enjoy summer?!?

Wasn't August faaaaaaabulous? And September is starting off fabulous as well!

And I have to say....I can't WAIT for the cold and snow!!!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my winter-loving friend! Hope you had a super weekend!
