I know I may be in the minority on this, but I have always loved the look of someone wearing glasses.

I find glasses both attractive and even sexy. Yes...sexy.

I don't know how it is in schools today, but I grew up in the decade of the '60's, when kids who wore glasses were stereotyped as nerds.

And some kids were even teased and called "four-eyes." Yes, kids can be cruel. And me, being someone who was also teased in school for other things, I knew how they felt so I didn't do that. Besides, I didn't see anything abnormal about people who wore glasses.

For some reason though, wearing glasses back then had a stigma attached to it.

In the '70's, when hard contact lenses first came out, you began to see less and less people wearing glasses and happy to be rid of them. Yet, not everyone could wear contacts.

Then something changed in the '80's, glasses became a style statement and part of a "look", where even if you didn't need glasses you could buy them with clear lenses and wear them to complement an outfit. They were called "faux" glasses. In fact, I bought several pairs with different frames so that I could wear them with my outfits whenever I went out to nightclubs. Suddenly I was able to wear glasses too!

Then in the '90's, glasses were no longer called glasses, they were referred to as "vision wear." Glasses were being made in so many fabulous styles that they became a fashionable eye accessory. And the choices were endless.

Now, with laser surgery being an option, more and more people are getting away from glasses again. But I think it's more out of convenience than a stigma.

Yes, a lot has changed in our perception about glasses over the many decades. People who wear glasses are now CHIC.

But to me, they have always been chic.

Here, take a look at these ladies...

Here, take a look at these gentlemen...

And here, take a look at my imaginary soulmate...

See, didn't I tell you that glasses are SEXY?

HUBBA-HUBBA!

And here's looking at you Mr. Glasses!

Wishing you an inSIGHTful Monday, y'all!

  1. 'Boys don't make passes at girls who wear glasses' was a popular belief when I was growing up and I was always thankful that the need for glasses didn't come my way until much later. How stupid is that? Now I love, love, love to see people in glasses and those men in your pictures definitely have the Cor, Phew and Wow values. The men are GORGEOUS and I like the specs too haha.

Interesting post, Ron, as always x

  2. Well...if this isn't just TIMELY!! I JUST got new glasses the day before yesterday!! I am a bit self-conscious yet wearing them as I went alone to pick them out...I never should have done that!! But they are PURPLE and you know how much I adore purple!! They are also very special lenses...instead of trifocals...they have all the lenses blended together with no lines! I thought I would die getting used to them! But, these things are freakin' AWESOME!!! I totally LOVE them!!! My husband wasn't too happy they were almost a thousand bucks...but with insurance got it down to just over $400. These things are on my face 24/7 so I better damn well be in LOVE with them!! The problem is that the styles change so fast...I have an arsenal of frames in my office and I can pick and choose as the styles change!! At the cost...one should be able to stretch their use, don't ya think?? AWESOME post Ron!!! Like I said, SPOT on!! Have a FAB Monday! xo Jeanne and the girls

  3. I HATED wearing glasses in junior high and high school and BEGGED for hard contacts. My parents finally got them for me freshmen year of college, after I quit wearing my glasses and would only get them out if I needed to see the blackboard at school. I was a stubborn kid.

Now I wear them because my eyes are too dry for any sort of contacts. I don't mind that much and there are a lot of stylish frames to choose from. I think men in glasses are incredibly sexy. I know it's a stereotype, but it makes them look intelligent, which is a huge turn on for me.

Ok, you will crack up at this......but a woman I once knew told me she asked her husband to keep his glasses on during sex because it made him look hotter! LOL.....I couldn't believe she told me that!

  4. Of course eyeglasses are sexy - another thing to take off - ever so slowly.

  5. Ron, I loved this post! From the photographs of the cute animals wearing glasses, down to the final photograph of Mr. Glasses. What a hottie!

I agree about glasses being attractive. I've dated several guys who have worn glasses. And I also think ladies look attractive in glasses. I love that photo of Tina Fey!

What you said about glasses being a fashionable eye accessory is true. And if you notice, many clothing designers are adding eye glasses and sunglasses to their collections.

Have a wonderful week, Ron x

  6. "'Boys don't make passes at girls who wear glasses' was a popular belief when I was growing up "

Yes, Valerie, I remember hearing that when I was growing up too. And wasn't that ridiculous?

"the need for glasses didn't come my way until much later."

Me as well. I don't need glasses to see distance, however, I do need glasses for reading. And I love wearing them!

"and those men in your pictures definitely have the Cor, Phew and Wow values. The men are GORGEOUS and I like the specs too haha."

Much thanks for stopping by, dear lady. Have a super week!

  7. Helloooooooo there Jeanne!

"I JUST got new glasses the day before yesterday!!"

    OMG, how ironic is that?!?

Oooo...purple! Yes, I know how much you adore the color. And I bet they look faaaaabulous on you!

"They are also very special lenses...instead of trifocals...they have all the lenses blended together with no lines!"

Yes, I've seen those kinds of lenses on people who I work with. And it's amazing because you can't even tell that there are different lenses within the one.

WOW...$400.00!?! But hey, if you like them it's worth it. Plus, it's an investment in something important - your eyesight.

"The problem is that the styles change so fast...I have an arsenal of frames in my office and I can pick and choose as the styles change!! At the cost...one should be able to stretch their use, don't ya think??"

    Yes, absolutely!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. And enjoy your new eye glasses!

  8. "Now I wear them because my eyes are too dry for any sort of contacts. I don't mind that much and there are a lot of stylish frames to choose from."

Yes, I've heard many people say the same thing about wearing contacts. And that's the thing, the chooses of stylish eye glasses have become endless.

" I think men in glasses are incredibly sexy. I know it's a stereotype, but it makes them look intelligent, which is a huge turn on for me."

I agree! And perhaps that's why I find glasses incredibly sexy as well - a combination intelligence and sex appeal!

"Ok, you will crack up at this......but a woman I once knew told me she asked her husband to keep his glasses on during sex because it made him look hotter! LOL.....I couldn't believe she told me that!"

Bwhahaha! And you know what? I can totally understand her feelings because I feel the same way! I mean, look at the guy in the last photo above. All he's wearing is glasses - hubba, hubba!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have SUPER week!

  10. I didn't wear glasses until my late 20s and then, just to see far-off stuff, so I never felt the pain of being teased in grade school. Still, I recall how uncomfortable I felt having to wear them to see movies or to drive.
Thankfully, the times have changed, and people are more accepting of those who wear glasses (though part of me wonders if kids still aren't pulling the "cruel card" with their bespectacled peers!)
Today, as you pointed out, glasses are chic, a fashion statement. And many outfits just don't look as cool on someone not wearing lenses. The colors available now, as well as technology's ability to craft line-less lenses, are big pluses.
Thanks for an interesting post, Ron, and have a super Monday!

  11. Lets hear it for eyeglass wearers, Ron! I myself am one. I've worn both contacts and glasses but prefer wearing glasses because my eyes don't do well with lenses. My girlfriend also wears glasses, but she is Miss Fashionata, so has many pairs. Lol. But I'm boring because I've had the same style for years.

Tina Fey and Johnny Depp. I'm a big fan of both!

    InSIGHTful post, dude!

  12. Helloooooooo there Debbie!

I wear glasses too, but only to read. I started needing them around the age of 45. I can see far, but I can't see close up.

"Thankfully, the times have changed, and people are more accepting of those who wear glasses (though part of me wonders if kids still aren't pulling the "cruel card" with their bespectacled peers!)"

You know, I thought the same thing. I wonder how it is in schools today? Do the kids still get teased, or is wearing glasses not even an issue?

"The colors available now, as well as technology's ability to craft line-less lenses, are big pluses."

Yes, isn't that amazing? And even reading glasses come in such an array of styles. I usually buy 3-4 pairs at one time and pick different styles so I can switch off and on.

Much thanks for stopping by, dear lady. Have a super Monday and week!

  13. "I've worn both contacts and glasses but prefer wearing glasses because my eyes don't do well with lenses."

Yes, I've heard a lot of people say that, Matt. And even with the newer, softer lenses. Years ago, when contacts first came out, you couldn't leave them in when you slept. You had to take them out and steam clean them overnight. And contacts back then were hard.

"Tina Fey and Johnny Depp. I'm a big fan of both!"

Me too. That's why I added them to the collages.

MUCH thanks for stopping by, buddy. Have a most excellent week!

  15. I like glasses, too! In fact, they're one of the defining looks in Portland. Everybody knows the sexiest girls out here are the ones who wear glasses.

Perhaps not coincidentally at all...Tara wears them! Though she is talking about getting Lasik surgery someday. If it were up to me, I'd have her stick with wearing glasses - I find them very appealing on her.

  16. I find glasses attractive on others. On me,not so much.

  17. Lol its funny you post this today. Yesterday I was watching Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and the weather girl had glasses when she was a kid and was a nerd but without her glasses and her hair down she was considered attractive. I thought it was silly how such little things change how she is percieved. And you are right on the right person glasses are sexy!

  18. I was one who made the switch to contacts in high school in the late 70s and never looked back. Before then, it was glasses and boy, oh, boy, I had some really interesting looks! Cat eye glasses….do you remember those? Yep, I had some in junior high. Lovely. I do have rimless *vision wear* for a back up when my eyes are tires, but have a hard time wearing them all the time now. Nice pics! I'll take one Johnny Depp, please. :-)

  19. I didn't have to wear glasses until my mid thirties. In fact I think the only reason I started wearing them was because the optician wanted to sell me some! Unfortunately, glasses just didn't suit me, so I hated wearing them. Since the style of glasses has changed, they suit me better. I may not need to wear them for much longer, once I have my second cataract op.

I think a lot of people look great (and sexy) in glasses too :)

Doesn't it amaze you how much the styles of glasses have change? And the choices are endless.

"Since the style of glasses has changed, they suit me better. I may not need to wear them for much longer, once I have my second cataract op.

I work with a guy who had cataract surgery done on both his eyes and he never had to go back to wearing glasses. The surgery was very successful :)

Thanks so much for stopping by, Babs. Have a lovely week!

  23. My face is small and oval, so the reading glasses I wear have to be narrow and more rectangular because it balances my face and head. I look horrible in anything such as aviator glasses or anything too big because they overpower my face.

Have a faaaaaaaabulous week, Suzi! And thanks so much for stopping by, my friend!

Sexy is right! You've got great taste in "glasses", Ron ;)

And I'm with you, the right glasses on a face is extremely attractive, especially if someone has nice eyes. It frames them like a picture. I must be in the minority too, because I think glasses are very sexy. Kind of like a Clark Kent/Superman thing!

I love the collage of animals wearing glasses. The little dog on the bottom row, center is so cute!

  26. Are you saying yo'd find that last guy LESS sexy without the glasses? Because I'm not so sure that's the main attraction there!

Both my sons have worn glasses for years now, and my older son has really cool frames on his. I often like the look of glasses, but was still glad I didn't have to bother until I needed reading glasses when I hit my mid-forties.

  27. "Are you saying yo'd find that last guy LESS sexy without the glasses? Because I'm not so sure that's the main attraction there!"

" but was still glad I didn't have to bother until I needed reading glasses when I hit my mid-forties."

Yes, I started to need reading glasses when I hit 45. I began using 110 strength, and now I'm up to 150.

  30. I, too, think glasses can be very sexy. Now, not so much those old gigantic tortoise shell things from years ago (my high school days)... but today's more modern and hip ones. Of course, MY glasses have never been all that great looking. Probably because I'm cheap. Oh, okay, not cheap... but you know, cheap. LOL I had to get progressive lenses last time my eyes were checked and WOW, they were over $400. So I wasn't about to go even higher for designer frames. Luckily, now we have insurance money to put towards the next pair... since I dropped and stepped on them AND the magnetic sunglass attachment keeps breaking, too. Ahhhh...I'm hard on stuff. :( So the less expensive the better maybe?
Before our road trip to GA, I needed to get a spare pair... just in case. I wasn't about to put out another fistful of money for progressives, just decided to get a pair for driving, strictly to see in the distance. I found not one, but two pair at Walmart (bleh, I know!). One sunglass, one purple frame. Both pair, under $200! I actually like both of them.

  31. "LOL I had to get progressive lenses last time my eyes were checked and WOW, they were over $400. So I wasn't about to go even higher for designer frames."

Yes, Mary, someone else mentioned the same thing about progressive lenses at the price being $400.00 and up!

" Ahhhh...I'm hard on stuff. :( So the less expensive the better maybe?"

I'm the same way! I either lose or break my reading glasses constantly. Which is why I always purchase them at the Dollar Store and buy 3-4 pairs at one time.

Thanks so much for stopping by, neighbor! Have a super Wednesday!

  33. I wear glasses Ron, so you would find me super attractive, hahahaha! I wore glasses when they had to be tied on my face with a band because I was so little. I had frosted lens, wore patches, had 5 operations & then was able to go without glasses for about 20 years. Then I needed some help sharpening up the computer so i went back to glasses. When I went to pick my glasses & the girl was showing me different options I said to her that I wanted glasses to be stylish this time.
As a kid, I had to wear the glasses we could get at The Bay with their limited selection because my father worked for the company & we got a discount. I wore some of the ugliest glasses as i grew up & was teased mercilessly!
After my last eye operation at 12, they discovered the corrective surgery had left me with one short sighted eye & one long sighted eye (I call it bi-focal eyes). I can only see to the end of my nose with my left eye & I can't see anything closer than my hand in front of my face with my right eye. So even though I were glasses, I will never have to wear bi-focals. There is almost no prescription in my left lens.

I've worn glasses since high school, and, of course, converted to contacts when I could, but honestly, Ron, they are so annoying. It wasn't until the 80's when Sophia Loren began her own collection and wore them. One of the most beautiful women in the world, wearing glasses, full-time!
