Dreams have always fascinated me.
I seem to go through periods when I dream a lot. And then there are other periods when I dream very little or not at all.
Although, I’ve read that we always dream; however, we don’t always remember them. So perhaps that's why.
Lately, I've been going through a period of not dreaming, or rather not remembering.
Many years ago, I purchased a dream dictionary as a way of helping me to decipher my dreams. But eventually, after I took a class in Dream Interpretation, I learned that the “dreamer” is the best interpreter. Dream dictionaries are good as far as giving a broad over-view of dreams, but I think our own individual subconscious will often use specific symbols that only we fully understand. I used to keep a dream journal and a pen next to my bed in which I would write my dreams, even in the middle of the night after I woke up from a dream. I would grab the pen and write the dream in the dark. Upon reading it in the morning, I would get a crystal clear understanding of what the dream meant and why I dreamed it.
Today, I thought I’d share a few recurring dreams, and then invite you to share yours if you wish.
ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Symbolic Dreams-
Elevator
I’m in an elevator and it’s going up and down. Sometimes the elevator is moving fast; other times, it’s moving excruciatingly slow. I’ve even had dreams where the elevator feels as though the cable has snapped and it’s crashing downward, while I frantically push all the buttons; hoping that it stops the elevator. I always wake up before it crashes; usually dripping in sweat.
*This dream usually occurs when I feel confused about the direction of my life, or when I find it difficult to decide about something.
Telephone
Another recurring dream is that I’m desperately trying to make a telephone call on a push-button phone. I keep pressing the buttons in total frustration, because I can't seem to dial the number correctly. And when I finally dial the number, I keep getting disconnected and have to redial all over again.
*This dream usually occurs when I’m not listening to my intuition, or not hearing its guidance correctly.
Teeth
This recurring dream involves my teeth. I’m pulling my teeth out of my gums, or my teeth are so loose, they just fall out on their own as I spit them into a sink.
*This dream usually occurs when I’m not speaking my truth, or finding it difficult to communicate whatever it is I want to express.
Dreams Taken Literally-
Water Leaks
This one freaks me out because whenever I have a dream about a water leak, it always happens. For instance, several months after I moved into my current apartment four years ago, I had a dream that the ceiling was leaking water from the apartment above mine. And low and behold, one morning I woke up to the sound of water tapping on the stainless steel sink in my kitchen. And when I looked up at the area directly around the kitchen cabinet, I saw a water leak. Thank heaven I was home because I immediately called maintenance, who discovered a water pipe above my kitchen with a crack in it. Had I not been home, God only knows how much water damage I would have had.
And in my previous apartment, which I rented in the same building eleven years ago, I dreamt there was a huge water leak in my bathroom. Ironically, one night (at almost one o'clock in the morning), I was in my bathroom brushing my teeth getting ready for bed, when suddenly I heard what sounded like a torrential downpour of rain outside the window. However, I quickly discovered that the sound was coming from the apartment above mine, directly above my bathroom. And then CRASH!...the water just started pouring down from cracks in the ceiling and the overhead bathroom heat lamp. Had I not been home, water damage would have destroyed my entire studio apartment. I was up for HOURS, catching the hot, rusty water falling from the ceiling with two plastic buckets and a trash can. Not only was the water pouring into my bathroom, but also my kitchen and closet containing all my clothing. I cannot believe that none of my belongings were ruined. Again, thank heaven I was home.
Finally (at 4 AM), the Philadelphia Water Department located the busted pipe and repaired it.
For the inconvenience I had to endure that night, I made the property manager of the building move me to another apartment on an upper floor that was recently renovated for the same price I was currently paying. And I also demanded a two-year lease with no price increase.
All of which I got.
Yup, in the classic words of Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford in 'Mommie Dearest' (aka me), "DON'T FUCK WITH ME, FELLAS!!!"
ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Okay, now it's your turn to share your own feedback on dreaming; whether you recall your dreams; or any recurring dreams you may have.
Have a dreamy rest of your week, y'all!
But please don't dream of water leaks -- 😂

What an interesting topic, Ron! I always enjoy how you're able to combine whatever topic you choose to share with an added touch of hysterical humor! Like this -- "Yup, in the classic words of Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford in 'Mommie Dearest' (aka me), "DON'T FUCK WITH ME, FELLLAS!!!" -- LOL!
ReplyDeleteI identify with your elevator dream because I've had them also. And what always stands out for me is how panicked and trapped I feel inside the elevator. Your explanation of the dream makes total sense. I always thought I had those dreams just because of my apprehension of elevators and getting stuck. Another recurring dream I have has to do with flying. Sometimes I'm flying in a plane, looking out the window. And other times I'm flying around like a bird.
And that's crazy about how every time you dream of a water leak, it happened. WOW! I don't think I've ever had dreams that were premonitions.
I'm going to check out the link you shared later this afternoon when I'm on my lunch break. Can't wait! xo
HA! I just couldn't help myself. I was so angry and frustrated by the leak, I turned into Joan Crawford. The property manager at that time was horrendous. She did absolutely nothing to improve the apartment building for so many years. Not just me, but all the tenants couldn't stand her. I had to go over her head (to the CEO of the company) and make these demands because she wouldn't do anything about it. Thankfully, she is no longer the property manager. Yahoooo!
ReplyDeleteYou too? I've met quite a few people who have had dreams involving elevators. And speaking of your fear of getting stuck in one, I actually did have that happen, TWICE! But up until that point, I didn't have any apprehension of getting stuck.
I've dreamed of flying too!!! But it's always been the sensation of flying like a bird through the sky.
Aren't dreams fascinating? They say its the way our subconscious speaks to us.
Have a fab day, my friend. Thanks for stopping by!

Hola Denise!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I remember even as a kid, being enthralled with all-things unknown! I remember watching a movie with my mother one Saturday afternoon about the possibility of aliens from other planets. I think it was called, Chariots of the Gods. It was about extraterrestrials. She and I both thought it was very possible.
GREAT question! And I can only answer by saying I don't know. I honestly can't recall if my dreams are in black and white or color. I wonder if other people notice in their own dreams?
"The only dream I recall as recurring was one I had as a kid in school and standing in front of the classroom making a speech, half-dressed! "
OMG....meeeeeeeeeee too! I had that dream A LOT. And I went to Catholic school, so in the dream, the nuns were always yelling at me for coming to school HALF-DRESSED!!! That was such a frustrating dream because I felt confused, embarrassed, and ashamed that I didn't have all my clothes on. HA!!!!
No, thank heaven, I have not had that dream in many years. Now watch, because I said that, I'll have that dream tonight. LOL!
Thanks for stopping by, girl! Have a great day at work. And enjoy the link!

The timing of this post is interesting, because I've been experiencing odd dreams this week. Some nights, when I wake up from a dream/nightmare, I feel an emotion close to fear, but not in a way that makes me fear for my life. Just creeped out.
ReplyDeleteI've also heard that if you wish to communicate with loved ones or spirit guides, you can ask for specific messages before falling asleep. I haven't tried that...yet.
All of this is to say that I believe I need to purchase a dream journal. HA!
I also believe I was meant to come across your blog. 💕
Woah! Nice work on that apartment ‘negotiation.’ I can’t believe you had two leaks like that AND with the dream. That is spooky crazy! Like you, I tend to go in cycles where I have a bunch of dreams I remember in a row, then a dry period where I don’t remember a thing. I’ve read that the tooth dream and snake dreams are the two most common, but I’ve had neither. My most recurring dreams are being late for something or desperately needing a bathroom and I either can’t find one or there is no privacy (none of the stalls have doors). It’s exasperating. But since I always wake up needing to urinate, I’m guessing that’s a big part of it?
ReplyDeleteAnd would you believe last week I had a similar dream to yours about not being able to make a phone call? That was my first time! I was at a huge mall and got lost and I was supposed to meet my husband at a parent/teacher conference, so I needed to call him to tell him I was running late. I asked a mall security cop if I could use his phone, but I could not for the life of me push the right buttons on that damn flip phone! It was so bizarre! Then I woke up, thank God!
My husband rarely remembers his dreams, but lately, he’s been doing so much kicking in his dreams that it wakes me up. And when I say kicking, I mean like a punter at a football game! One time, he said a giant turtle was attacking him and he was trying to kick it away! We still crack up about that and make jokes because it was just so odd!
Fun topic, Ron! I’m going to check back to reader other comments. Happy Weekend! XO
Greetings, Kari!
ReplyDelete"Some nights, when I wake up from a dream/nightmare, I feel an emotion close to fear, but not in a way that makes me fear for my life. Just creeped out."
You know, I've had that same kind of "fear" dreams as well. And like you said, it wasn't a fear that made me fear for my life. But rather, a feeling creeped out and not understanding what made me feel that way.
"I've also heard that if you wish to communicate with loved ones or spirit guides, you can ask for specific messages before falling asleep. I haven't tried that...yet."
Yes! In fact, in the dream interpretation class that I took, the teacher mentioned that to us. I remembered several years after my mother passed away, I tried it. And not only could I feel her "presence" in my dreams, but also throughout my day to day living. A few years after my father passed away (he passed away in 1993), I could feel his presence with me onstage one night when I was performing in the play, "The Diary of Anne Frank." I could literally feel his presence and a voice that said, "I am here with you, Ron."
"I also believe I was meant to come across your blog. 💕"
And I feel that about your blog as well. So glad we met. Can't wait to read more! Thanks for stopping by!

"Woah! Nice work on that apartment ‘negotiation.’ I can’t believe you had two leaks like that AND with the dream."
ReplyDeleteThanks! OMG, I was livid after it happened because the property manager had sense of urgency about taking care of the water damage in my apartment (the ceiling, the walls, the hardwood floors). And yes, can you freaking believe that? The first time I thought it was just a coincidence. But then when it happened again, I started to realize it was an omen of what was to come. YIKES!
You sound like me. You go through periods of dreaming and then dry periods. Yup, I too (from the dream website) read that those two dreams are very common.
" My most recurring dreams are being late for something or desperately needing a bathroom and I either can’t find one or there is no privacy (none of the stalls have doors). It’s exasperating. But since I always wake up needing to urinate, I’m guessing that’s a big part of it?"
Interesting! I'm surprised that I haven't had dreams like that because (like you) I have to get up in the middle of the night quite frequently. Like last night, I had get up THREE times. However, I did drink a lot of water yesterday.
"And would you believe last week I had a similar dream to yours about not being able to make a phone call? That was my first time! Thank you for sharing that because now I know I'm not alone with that phone dream!!! And isn't it so frustrating to loose all sense of HOW to press the buttons on the phone? For some reason, the phone in my dream is always a vintage model telephone with push-buttons below the phone cradle. HA!
"And when I say kicking, I mean like a punter at a football game! One time, he said a giant turtle was attacking him and he was trying to kick it away! We still crack up about that and make jokes because it was just so odd!"
OMG, that made me laugh out loud!!!! Don't you wonder why we have dreams like that?!?
Cant thank you enough for stopping by and sharing your dream experience. It's so interesting to read how in some ways we similar things, but in other ways we are unique!
Have a faaaaaaabulous weekend, my friend!

Wow....I've been thinking a lot about my dreams lately! I try hard to remember them right when I wake up. They are weird. I've thought about writing them down, but forget them before I can. I dream in color and sometimes they seem so real that when I wake up I really have to think whether what happened in my dream really happened! Fun post about a strange and mysterious aspect of the mind. X
ReplyDeleteI know I have dreams, and I recall many after I wake up. Right off hand, tho, I can't put my mind in gear and think of any. Most of my dreams have to deal with a family member, or travel. Some scary, some hilarious, and some comforting.
ReplyDeleteI find your water dreams and near catastrophes ironic. Don't they all that "6th sense"?
Ron, the tooth dream I've had as well; several times. When I have, I get very nervous that it's a sign that I have Periodontitis. So I get all OCD about brushing, flossing and using an oral rinse. LOL! I've never dreamed of being in an elevator that is falling, but I have had several dreams in which I'm randomly falling.
ReplyDeleteThe last time I recalled a dream was during the summer, when I was trying to start my car but couldn't. For some reason, I could not get the car key into the ignition. And when I finally did, the car wouldn't start because the battery was dead. I woke up so frustrated.
Glad something positive came from your long night of horror water leak story. I would have been pissed too.
"Most of my dreams have to deal with a family member, or travel. Some scary, some hilarious, and some comforting."
ReplyDeleteWow, such diverse dreams, Anni! I sometimes wonder if creative/artistic people (such as yourself) dream more vividly and more actively because their minds are constantly creating.
"I find your water dreams and near catastrophes ironic. Don't they all that "6th sense"?"
Yes, they sure do! Which is why I get all nervous because whenever I've had those water leak dreams, they actually happened. Yikes!
Thanks for stopping by, my friend. Have a terrific weekend!

" When I have, I became very nervous that it was a sign that I have the beginnings of periodontitis. So I got all OCD about brushing, flossing and using an oral rinse. LOL! "
ReplyDeleteOMG...yes! I remember when I had that dream for the first time, I thought the same thing! I thought it was a literal dream telling me to take care of my gums and teeth!
I too have had dreams where I'm randomly falling from the sky. But I always wake up before I actually hit the ground.
Your dream about starting your car reminded me of a dream I used to have about not being able to find my car in a parking lot.
Yup, I was so pissed. And what really bothered me was the manner in which the property manager handled it.
Always nice to see your comments, Clair. Have an awesome weekend!

"I dream in color and sometimes they seem so real that when I wake up I really have to think whether what happened in my dream really happened! "
ReplyDeleteI think it's so interesting that you dream in color AND notice that. One time I had a dream that was noticeably in black and white, which made wonder "do I dream in color or black and white?!?"
Yes, aren't dreams strange and mysterious?
Thanks for stopping by, Lisa!

Wonderful topic, Ron! I've tried writing down my dreams, but I guess I must still be half-asleep because the scribblings mean nothing the next morning (if I can even read them!)
ReplyDeleteRecurring dreams? Oh, yes. Definitely. I regularly dream I'm taking a test but I never find out how I did. Or, I'm late to a class and can't find the room. Or, I'm supposed to be playing in a band concert and can't find half my instrument. I wonder why we have these recurring dreams? I imagine our subconscious mind is trying to figure something out for us, yet having some difficulty solving the problem.
Way to go on holding your ground with the leaking apartment! You did GOOD and showed them not to mess with somebody who needed their decent night's sleep. Enjoy your weekend, my friend! xx
Morning, Debbie!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I know what you mean because when I used to keep a dream journal and would scribble my dreams in the middle of the night; in the dark, I would sometimes have to decipher my own handwriting!!!
" I regularly dream I'm taking a test but I never find out how I did. Or, I'm late to a class and can't find the room. Or, I'm supposed to be playing in a band concert and can't find half my instrument."
Thanks for sharing those! And you caused me to remember one of mine, which is late for class and can't find the room. I haven't had that dream in a while, but went through a period when I did.
" I wonder why we have these recurring dreams? I imagine our subconscious mind is trying to figure something out for us, yet having some difficulty solving the problem."
Yes, exactly! They say our subconscious mind never stops. Therefore when we're sleeping, it keeps on going; forming dreams. I also read that we don't actually see our dreams, we think them.
Dreams are fascinating, aren't they?
Much thanks for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaaaaaaaaabulous weekend! We finally got some nice, cold fallish weather and I am so enjoying it!
X
LOL! I went to Catholic school too, Ron! Perhaps that's why you and I have those dreams! Damn those nuns!!!!
ReplyDeleteI never saw Chariots of the Gods before, but found in online when I googled it. I'm going to watch it!
Isn't it funny how those of us who attended Catholic school all have the same horror stories? LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteOh good, glad you found it. I didn't even think the movie/documentary was still available for viewing. I'll have to google it too. I'd like to see it again after all these years!
Fascinating topic, Ron! I'm totally gobsmacked by your water leak dreams that came TRUE! That's incredible. But I'm sure it leaves you a little fearful of ever having another one. Have you ever had any other dreams come to fruition, I curious?
ReplyDeleteOne recurring dream that I used to have, but haven't in years, is dreaming that I was pregnant. And one time I actually thought it was telling me that I was pregnant, because I thought I might be (but wasn't). And when I had those dreams, I could see my growing belly and felt what it was like to have a baby inside of me. I looked it up online and discovered that pregnancy dreams are typically connected to something else in your life that is in a growing and development phase. Which made sense to me because both time I was going through something in my life involving a new project I was involved with at work.
By the way, I noticed on your sidebar that you're currently watching 'From Scratch' on Netflix. I watched it when it first aired in October and loved it. What a bittersweet story, which I'm sure you know, was true. Or base on a true story.
Are you enjoying this fantastic cold weather we're having? I am, and I bet you are too!
If we don't speak before then, Happy Thanksgiving, Ron! xo
"I looked it up online and discovered that pregnancy dreams are typically connected to something else in your life that is in a growing and development phase. Which made sense to me because both time I was going through something in my life involving a new project I was involved with at work."
ReplyDeleteOMG Elaine, that was soooooooooooooo interesting to read about your pregnancy dreams and what you discovered about their meaning!!! Isn't it fascinating how dreams work? I've always been intrigue by dreams and what they mean. That's why I took a dream interpretation class, which revealed so much to me. I kind of wish I dreamed more, or rather remembered my dreams.
And yes, you better believe it. Those water dreams did leave me a bit fearful because whenever I'm had them, they came to be. BOTH times! No, I've never had any other dreams that came to fruition, other than those. Although, sometimes I will hear things (such as the fire alarm in my apartment building) before I actually hear it. For instance, over the summer I heard the fire alarm in the hallway go off on two separate occasions, but only in my head; not in actually. However, back in August, the fire alarm DID go off one afternoon while I was home, and we all had to evacuate the building. Thankfully, it was nothing serious.
I am enjoying this cold weather too! It feels so good to walk outside and have that cold air hit my face. God, how I love this time of year!
Happy Thanksgiving to you (and your husband) too, my friend!

Ooops...I meant to say this in my previous comment....
ReplyDelete"By the way, I noticed on your sidebar that you're currently watching 'From Scratch' on Netflix. I watched it when it first aired in October and loved it. What a bittersweet story, which I'm sure you know, was true. Or base on a true story."
A woman I work with suggested that I find it on Netflix and watch it because she thought I would enjoy it. And OH....MY....GOD....it's such a fabulous series! I am up to the fourth episode, so I have four more to go. I don't want it to end. Such a beautiful story! However, I find myself crying through it.
Isn't it such a beautiful story. And be prepared, the last episode is a major tear-jerker. So, have tissues handy.
ReplyDeleteI know, I can tell just from the previous episodes that the finale is going to be a tear-jerker. Hell, I cried in the first episode. LOL!
ReplyDeleteWow, Ron, you have had a lot of dream premonitions and those about the water that actually happened were really freaky.
ReplyDeleteYes, I know that I dream, but never remember them except for a few brief minutes after waking and that doesn’t happen consistently. I have never thought of keeping a journal. And as far as I cannot recall none of my dreams have involved any that included an elevator, phone or teeth. But, I do remember the dreams were in color, odd isn’t that?
Happy 🦃 wherever and however you will be observing the holiday.
Gooooood Morning, D!
ReplyDeleteI know, isn't that FREAKY?!? And when it happened twice, that's when I realized they were premonition dreams. YIKES!
I think many people are as you and I when it comes to dreams -- it's challenging to always remember them. As I shared, lately I've been going through a period of not dreaming (or rather, not remembering them).
"But, I do remember the dreams were in color, odd isn’t that?"
No, not odd. I think it's awesome. I can't recall whether or not I dream in color or black and white; with the exception of one dream in which I clearly remember it being in black and white.
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts and experience about dreams.
Wishing you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving Day!

hey ron. we are so alike. i used to dream every night and i remember my dreams too. my dreams are like movies, i love them. so weird and entertaining. i used to dream of scary stuff and being chased, world destruction but i don’t anymore. they are a lot more fun. i look up the meaning of my dreams. i don’t give them meaning because they make no sense to me and i can’t ever make a connection. a friend bought me a book to write ny dreams down but some of my dreams don’t need to be on paper. wink wink.
ReplyDeletesometimes i can tell myself what i want to dream about and one time i used my dreams to find an object. it worked.
the brain is an amazing organ.
Goooood morning, Val!
ReplyDeleteYes! You and I sound SO much alike! I wonder if it's something that happens as we age? Perhaps as we do, our dreams become more subtle and less vivid? What you shared I've heard many people say, their dreams were like movies.
"... a friend bought me a book to write ny dreams down but some of my dreams don’t need to be on paper. wink wink."
LOL! That cracked me up!!!!
"sometimes i can tell myself what i want to dream about and one time i used my dreams to find an object. it worked."
OMG, that is INCREDIBLE! I need to try that the next time I lose something and need to find it.
And you're so right, the brain is an amazing organ!
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Hope you had a grrrrrrrrrreat Thanksgiving Day!
