Post updates by email:

Yes, it's been years since I shared a Hello Kitty post. If you've been reading my blog for as far back as 6 or 7 years ago, you know of my utter dislike for all things Hello Kitty. And if you haven't, you can read about it here, here and here.

As you are all well aware, I adore cats but can't stand the cutsey-utsey overkill of Hello Kitty.

Last weekend, I got an email from my nephew's wife, Grace, (Hi Grace!) in which she attached several photographs of Hello Kitty paraphernalia she found in the store Babies-R-Us. And the reason she sent them to me is because she's aware of how much I can't stand Hello Kitty (and neither can she) and thought that I would get a good laugh out of it. Which I did.

Here are some of the photographs she sent...

After I got Grace's email, I decided to surf the web and see if I could find anything new about Hello Kitty to add to this post.

And boy, did I ever find something new!

Are you ready for this?

Apparently, there is an airline who has an entire fleet of planes dedicated to Hello Kitty. It's called Hello Kitty Eva Air and was started back in 2013.

OH. MY. GOD. Cat you believe that?

I'm scared of flying as it is, but if I was forced to get on a HELLO KITTY plane, it would be my WORST flying nightmare!

Here, get a load of this...

Hello Kitty check-in machines
(It looks like the check-in area if I were to die and be sent to Hello Kitty Hell)

Exterior: Hello Kitty Plane
(I just about fell off my computer chair when I saw it)

Interior: Economy class

Business class
(I wonder if each one of those seats has a built-in private litter box)

Hello Kitty flight attendant
(I'm wondering if she's serving little cups of milk to all the kitty passengers)

Flight meal
(notice the Hello Kitty butter pattie and the Hello Kitty-shaped carrot)
At this point if I were on the plane, I would start screaming, "NO! NO! NO MORE HELLO KITTY. GET ME OFF THIS FRIGGIN' PLANE. MAYDAY! MAYDAY!"

And lastly...

There is no escaping Hello Kitty on this plane; even in the bathrooms. Hello Kitty toilet paper, Hello Kitty hand soap, Hello Kitty lotion. And Hello Kitty vomit bags.

Excuse me, but I have to end this post right now. Because I suddenly feel the urge to projectile VOMIT.

Have a MEOW of a Monday, y'all!

  1. I can only think of one word to sum up my view of Hello Kitty...... NAUSEATING!

    Will that do?

I have never, ever, in my life come across anything as sick-making as an airline dedicated to .. to what? I mean, who are they aiming at here? Kids might take it all in their stride but adults... REALLY?

That's it... off to drink gallons of water. Happy Monday, my sane friend x

  2. Oh, my God, this is Hello Kitty Hell!

I hate flying enough without being subjected to all this crushing cuteness. I guess the stomach distress bag has Hello Kitty on it as well--I'd gladly fill that thing and 10 more like it if I had to fly on one of those planes!

Personally I had no feelings about Hello Kitty one way or the other. One of my nieces loved Hello Kitty when she was a child, but guess what? She grew out of it! Apparently some people can't do that.

This post is hysterically funny, but it also contains a serious warning about the dangers of cuteness abuse. Thanks for the heads-up, buddy, I'll keep watching the skies in case the Hello Kitty plane is flying overhead!

Have a Hello Kitty-free week, Ron!

  3. OMG.......I remember reading your posts about the dreaded Hello Kitty Hell!! It's been 40 years of this character and we still can't escape! I think the kitty is going to stick if out with Mickey!

Are you sitting down? Because I recently read that the company that produces the kitty, Sanrio, claims that the image is really supposed to be a cartoon British third grade girl!!! I didn't really understand it (whiskers, pointy ears, the freakin name???) maybe you can research this and post about it again!

  4. "Excuse me, but I have to end this post right now. Because I suddenly feel the urge to projectile VOMIT." ROFLMAO! Ron, what a clever way to conclude this post. You are too damn funny!

This airline seems like a Hello Kitty cult. It's kind of scary! Yet I'm impressed that they serve a steak dinner on their flights. Most airlines serve a bag of peanuts and a soft drink. I wonder what the ticket prices are for these flights?

Great post, dude! Thanks for the laughs!

  5. Ron, I'm sitting at my desk laughing my ass off at this post! "(I wonder if each one of those seats has a built-in private litter box)" Hilarious! One of my coworkers feels the same way about Hello Kitty so I shared this post with her. She LOVED it!

In one of the malls I shop, there is an entire Hello Kitty store and cannot believe how crowded it is all the time. I don't understand this obsession.

Fun post, Ron! And thanks for the Monday morning laughs. Have a wonderful week x

  6. Good morning Valerie!

"I can only think of one word to sum up my view of Hello Kitty...... NAUSEATING!"

    HA! Yes, my sentiments exactly!

" an airline dedicated to .. to what? I mean, who are they aiming at here? Kids might take it all in their stride but adults... REALLY?"

Good point! And kids are not the ones paying for the airline tickets, so obviously it must be something that adults also enjoy.

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Happy Monday and have a super week!

  7. Hey there Rob!

"I guess the stomach distress bag has Hello Kitty on it as well--I'd gladly fill that thing and 10 more like it if I had to fly on one of those planes!"

    HAHAHAHAHA! Me too!

"One of my nieces loved Hello Kitty when she was a child, but guess what? She grew out of it! Apparently some people can't do that."

And what amazes me is that I see MANY college students carrying Hello Kitty backpacks and laptop computer cases! I've also see people (adults) in Starbucks using laptop computers that have Hello Kitty stickers all over the back side of the monitor. Ewwwwwwwwwww!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a super week!

"One of my coworkers feels the same way about Hello Kitty so I shared this post with her. She LOVED it!"

Tell her that she and I should start a "I Hate Hello Kitty Fan Club" HA!

"In one of the malls I shop, there is an entire Hello Kitty store and cannot believe how crowded it is all the time. I don't understand this obsession."

Yes, I've seen a store like that in Chinatown, here in Philly. I've also seen areas in Macy's that have Hello Kitty sections.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a wonderful Monday and week!

  9. Hysterical post, Ron! My husband wanted me to tell you that he laugh at several things but this made him laugh the most - "It looks like the check-in area if I were to die and be sent to Hello Kitty Hell"

I can't get over the Hello Kitty vomit bags and toilet paper. WTF?! I can understand some of the Hello Kitty merchandise, but a Hello Kitty airline? No way.

Thank you for the very entertaining post today, Ron! You are one funny man.

  10. Ron, this post brought happy tears to my eyes!! The Hello Kitty vomit bags are very appropriate, though, don't you think?!

I remember my niece used to love Hello Kitty stuff ... when she was a little girl. Somehow, all that Pepto-Bismol pink feels like overkill now. You don't mention how this new airline is doing, but the Hello Kitty brand certainly is still popular, and I can see planes filled with ecstatic girls (and their gagging parents!!). I suppose it takes a special kind of person to want to be a flight attendant for them!

Can you imagine sleeping in a Hello Kitty bed?? Yuck, I'd sooner sleep on the floor with Dallas, ha!

Thanks for brightening my Monday, dear!

The airplane is so cute! My kids used to love Hello Kitty so I'm fond of it as part of good childhood memories...

  12. I don't know, Ron. Looks like a pretty nice plane to me! Especially those business class seats with private workstations. And, hello...that STEAK looks purr-fect! Nobody serves much more than a bag of stale pretzels these days. I wouldn't mind putting up with the Hello Kitty theme for a few hours for that kind of luxury. Besides, it's probably the safest flight in the world. Do you think any self-respecting terrorist is going to hijack a HELLO KITTY airplane? Never!

  13. Hey there Elaine!

"I can't get over the Hello Kitty vomit bags and toilet paper. WTF?!"

I know, can you believe it!?! The vomit bags are enough to make me vomit - HA!

" I can understand some of the Hello Kitty merchandise, but a Hello Kitty airline? No way."

My sentiments exactly. To me, the whole Hello Kitty thing has gotten so overkill.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a super week!

  14. Helloooo there Debbie!

" The Hello Kitty vomit bags are very appropriate, though, don't you think?!"

HAHAHA! Yes, absolutely! VERY appropriate ;)

" You don't mention how this new airline is doing, but the Hello Kitty brand certainly is still popular, and I can see planes filled with ecstatic girls (and their gagging parents!!). I suppose it takes a special kind of person to want to be a flight attendant for them!"

I don't exactly know how it's doing but I would imagine it's doing very well; especially with all the Hello Kitty fans in the world. I wonder what it cost to purchase a ticket? I bet it's very expensive. And yes, I'm sure it takes a very special person (and a Hello Kitty fan) to be a flight attendant for the airlines.

"Can you imagine sleeping in a Hello Kitty bed?? Yuck, I'd sooner sleep on the floor with Dallas, ha!"

HAHHAHAHAHA! Yeah, I'd almost rather sleep in a BOX!

I will admit that you're right about that. However, the Hello Kitty butter pattie and carrot would freak me out.

  17. Ron, I read this post at work this morning but didn't have time to comment. Hilarious! I love your sarcastic commentary between the photos! "I wonder if each one of those seats has a built-in private litter box" That cracked me up!

Like you, I adore cats and have one. But the whole Hello Kitty craze I just don't get. The vomit bags and toilet paper made me screech! I can't believe they serve a steak dinner on those planes. I wonder if that's only in business class?

    Entertaining post, Ron!

I couldn't resist sharing this post after receiving those pictures from Grace. Back in my archives I have several other posts about Hello Kitty.

"I can't believe they serve a steak dinner on those planes. I wonder if that's only in business class?"

Yes, I bet they do only serve that meal in business class. But I wonder what they serve the other passengers in Economy? Catnip? Bwhahahahaha!

Now...there is a story behind this. (You just KNEW there would be!!) Occasionally when I am up at the cottage, I tune in to Dr. Phil...just for kicks...to see what crazy person he has on. Well...last week he had this crazy nutcase that suffered from 72 DIAGNOSED illnesses and spent 20 out of 24 hours in her bedroom each day with her very own HELLO KITTY MICROWAVE!! Of course, I had to google it to be sure there actually WAS one!! Your cousins pictures are hilarious! Now...if you are under the age of five...then Hello Kitty is acceptable. If you are over the age of five...WTF????!!!! Thank you for letting me share!! xo Jeanne and the girls

  20. That's soooo wrong!
I probably never thought all that much about HK … but now, I'm with you… it's too over-the-top and I just can't stand it. LOL
Thank goodness my daughter or granddaughter never got too interested in this and I haven't had to go out and buy any of it.

  21. Yup, I finally saw (purchased) Marigold and LOVED it!!!! I haven't seen part 2 yet, but will when they put it out on DVD.

"Ah, what can I say about Dame Judi… you said it, classy, but down to earth! I *heart* her! As Chocolat is my most adored movie, I totally admired her in that, but also saw many of the others. Philomena, wonderful! Etc…"

I know you're a HUGE fan of hers, like me!

"Did you see the clip of her as Sally Bowles in Cabaret, or of her as Lady Macbeth? Old performances, but just shows her magnificence."

Yes, I have and they were magnificent! I didn't even realize that she did Cabaret until I watched her on an interview.

" I was reading that for her 80th birthday she considered getting a tattoo of an Indian symbol (I'm guessing maybe an OM, because she said it was about life and love and all) but I don't think she actually did it."

I don't know about that but will see if I can find something online. Yet, I'm not surprised because she was very affected by her time spent in India, filming those movies.

  34. I was checking out the Hello Kitty Wiki because I know of its huge Asian following, but didn't realize it was of Japanese origins.

But, Ron, you will literally die when you read this:

    1) In 1999, a brutal murder known as the Hello Kitty murder took place in Hong Kong. The popular name of the case derives from the fact that the murderer inserted his victim's head into a Hello Kitty doll after decapitating her and hanging the head in front of the victim's house.

    2) As of August 2007, Thai police officers who have committed minor transgressions such as showing up late or parking in the wrong place are forced to wear pink Hello Kitty armbands for several days as penance.
Now, isn't that a twist on its seemingly billion dollar innocence?
Geeze, Ron, what will they think of next? I'm really afraid to find out!

    ReplyDelete
  35. "Now, isn't that a twist on its seemingly billion dollar innocence?"

    OMG, Petra, I am speechless?!?!?

    #1 is just jaw-dropping scary!

    But #2 to is HILARIOUS!

Thanks so much for sharing that information. And yes, I knew Hello Kitty had its origins in Japan because of my time spent living there. I saw so many people wearing Hello Kitty t-shirts, backpacks, purses, etc. That cat is everywhere in Japan!

I think Hello Kitty is adorable, actually. But my daughter HATED HK through her entire childhood. I tried to do the whole pink thing, HK thing... but NOOOOOOOOOOO she was having no part of it.

Now that she is older and sees that anime is cool she has ONE shirt she picked out at the thrift store with Hello Kitty... but that is as far as it goes.

As for me, I would LOVE to ride on that plane. And kitty litter boxes at every seat works for me... instant bathrooms woo hooooo!

What the heck is kitty doing riding on top of that plane????!!!!!

  38. "You like Barbie but not Hello Kitty? REALLY?!?!?!??!? :)"

HAHAHAHA! Yes, can you believe that, Katherine? My dislike for all things Hello Kitty goes back to when I worked at a gift store and was assigned to the Hello Kitty section. OMG, we had Hello Kitty EVERYTHING. And my job was to keep it all stocked and straighten. I guess you could say that I O.D. on Hello Kitty, so that's probably why I'm not too fond of her :)

" And kitty litter boxes at every seat works for me... instant bathrooms woo hooooo!"

Yes, that would be kinda neat, wouldn't it? No need to get out of your seat to use the restroom!
